Burton Albion 3-1 Post Match Thread

so a clear pattern with all 3 goals... pulling it back to lvl with the penalty spot after running to the line... first two goals we had someone in the box running to the line to pull defenders with them to leave space for the cut back.Third goal no runner into the 6 yard to take defenders but it still worked!

They should hold their heads high tbh, they showed fight and pushed us for a good chunk of the second half. On another day they level it at 2-2. I do love the cup for games like this where football league teams face the prem teams and give them a scare on drive and determination.

Screaming out for a quality winger in the next window, Albrighton did himself no favours at all tonight, actually thought Gray was far better than him. Just shows how good Vardy is at one on ones, would have had at least one hat trick tonight...

Onwards we go if we don’t draw Man City again.... :scarf:

Albrighton was poor tonight. But that is rarely the case with Marc. So maybe just an off night.

Man City at home in the quarters then!

First half bossed it. Passing game was brilliant.

Second half we were overrun at times and Burton took control. Goal was coming but Ward should have done better. We weathered their 15-min storm and got through a scrappy period.

The amount of chances and openings we had before and after they scored though. So many that we could have realistically put away as well. Finishing and final ball could have been so much better.

But we're through and the 2nd string (for the most part) get the job done. Wouldn't mind Colchester or Oxford/Sunderland in the next round.

Fair assessment, but Oxford away rather than Man City at home!

That’s why we are so good this season, it’s system football at its finest. Clear patterns of play that are used across the squad meaning even with 9 changes we can function at a good level. Fast and fluid attack where runners know where they need to get to and players who know where to put the ball.

Complete turnaround from football under Puel. Rodgers is a top coach!

We made a lot harder work of that than we should've but we got there in the end. Could've had far more goals in the second half. Got away with a couple too.

Genuinely so resigned to us getting Man City at home I can barely give a toss about the draw lol

That was incredibly nervy. We let Burton back in but fair play to them: they played some good football. If it wasn't for Ward we could have lost that one. None of the back four covered themselves in glory against a tough and determined opponent. I was particularly disappointed with JJ. Although again Burton were excellent.

Thought Youri was a class above tonight. I feel privileged to watch him in blue. Chuffed for Kelechi. Thought he did okay and it was a composed finish for the first goal. Barnes was horrifically unlucky. Thought he looked onside for the disallowed goal. He is looking excellent and I believe in time the goals will come.

The backup wingers didn't do themselves any favours. Demari did some lovely work in close and it's terrific to see him adding assists to his game but he squanders so many goal scoring chances. It does my head in. Marc, though, had a risible night. Looked like a League One player at times! He has looked good in the League so far so hopefully this was just an off night. A top notch winger should be top of next season's recruitment list.

Very scrappy performance but a win is all that matters. Onwards and upwards!

Also Ward had a nightmare on their goal. Straight through his hands. Was well hit but should have done much better. Great save from the half volley later on though made up for it a little.

A bit harsh.

The shot was deflected off a Leicester defender away from where he was diving.  It looked bad because it went over his body, but I don't call it a mistake, just unlucky with the deflection.
