Burnley post match therapy thread

Recommended Posts

Our downturn in form is very worrying, but we made more than enough chances to win the game today. Even at 2-1 down we played good stuff and made openings but didn't convert.

We need to get out of this rut quickly though, we are getting caught up by other teams fast, and this is a golden opportunity to fiish top 4.

It just wasn’t..

We made loads of chances, Pope had a brilliant game and we missed the penalty which would have sealed the win

Its fine margins

To be fair, even if we took our chances, I would say the performance was below par.  We played like a struggling side, against a really poor side and were better but lacked real quality to control the game.  The second half Burnley dominated until they scored, that showed our weaknesses.

A few weeks ago, we were SECOND, now third. From the outside, it looks great. It doesn't reflect current trends, though.

The question is: "For how much longer?". Soon, it'll be fourth or us even slipping out of the Top Four, then looking back and damning the fact that we led such a glorious occasion slip away so carelessly.

That is, if we don't start turning things around quickly. Right now, we look a team that thinks it is bigger than it really is. A team bereft of a leader, a team with little to no precision, no impetus.

When even Vardy misses a penalty, you know you're in trouble.

A tougher approach to management is clearly needed. We've been sloppy and careless for about four weeks now. Attitude stinks by a country mile.

Club needs to do something about that and stop putting out "Champions League" slogans as a given, as seen recently in the Söyüncü interview. Delusions of grandeur are back.

Follow the trends of the other teams as well then. Chelsea lost, Man United have been spotty, Spurs have been spotty, Man City as well. The less said about Arsenal, the better.

All of us are bad except for Liverpool.

Their keeper MOTM but did wle REALLY test him. Hardest save was Praet's attempt (and I include the goal in that)

The amount on shots our players hit down his throat today was frustrating. Time for an imposing winger. Goal aside Barnes did nothing, and Perez actually did nothing. Vardy off colour, Tielemans lacking something. Ricardo isolated.

Too many passengers.

There 'keeper was MOM. On another day we score 4. We let Burnley pump too many crosses over, can't believe stopping this wasn't in our planning. We played the better football overall and didn't deserve to lose. As it's against a poor Burnley everything is magnified. It's very frustrating that we're in danger of chucking away the pre-Christmas hard work.

Another worrying performance.

All the signs were there with the team selection. Perez starts again despite only being able to give the ball away, meanwhile Iheanacho, Gray and Albrighton can't get a fair crack of the whip no matter what they do and no matter how poor the form of the players in front of them is.

We started with a slow tempo and it continued throughout the game. At no point did we look dominant, in spite of what the commantators were saying. We created few chances and we never really looked in control; it was the dour, scrappy affair that Burnley wanted.

We shot ourselves in the foot by missing a penalty and conceding twice to a team that can't score, but there are more consistent signs that the wheels are coming off. We look disjointed, there is no fluency in our passing and movement, and once again the desire wasn't there. As we have seen in the last month or so, we get into a battle and our players start throwing themselves to the ground rather than trying to win the ball back. It's pathetic.

The most annoying thing is that we don't switch it up even when we're behind, even in stoppage time. I mean for god's sake, time is running out, press high up the pitch and get players into the box, chase up the second balls and outnumber them in key areas. It's not about how many passes are in a move, it's about making it more likely that we will score a goal.

There is so much wrong with our attitude at the moment, we either have things our own way or we completely fold. That's not good enough.

Not read this but it's not surprising to see you again now that we're losing again.

Hate to say it but Vardy may need dropping, his first touch , general movement and finishing is miles off since the baby, Maddison again as well looks to easy to force out of games. Barnes played well actually and Ricardo was always bombing on in a team playing poorly.

Kelechi up front next game, bring albrighton and gray back in

its relegation form at the minute so somthing needs to be done.

Everyone saying calm down, we are 3rd... we are judging them on this terrible form and this string of terrible performances... if we still finish top 4 then we’ll done, we’ve over achieved. But right now, we are watching terrible performances week in week out

By who?

Man Utd will be lucky to get a point, Chelsea lost, Kane is ****ed etc.

We need some fresh faces in the side else we won't finish top 4. We haven't played well for a few months and it will be massively disappointing if we mess up 2nd half of the season. Today we didn't take our chances, we should of been more than enough for Burnley but poor defending and stepping off the gas second half ultimately cost us.

He protected the back 4 well and moved the ball about nicely. Basically his role in the side. More disciplined in his positioning and less reckless diving about than any other for alternative.

He was okay but our expectations have become higher than just okay this season. One deficiency is that he often did not show himself for the outlet pass.

If that's the case Wilf must be a god in his position, I'm surprised Barca aren't offering us £100 mill.

I can't remember a crucial tackle he made infact Burnley nearly scored from his miss pass.  And his jumping for the ball in the box at setplays were amusing.

The kid is mustard in Different Strokes though.

Ndidi reminds me of Lennon. Everyone thought Izzet was the main reason we were good back then just like Maddison is rated today. However without a player like Ndidi then we will always  struggle.

Need him back asap, cos without him we look we will struggle.

we should’ve won tbf, i’ll start with that.

however when it started unravelling we made two of the worst subs i’ve ever seen. praet was our best player and we needed more width. so we took him off and went even more narrow.

jesus.

Simple for me. Pen goes in and we win.

Sadly, the only positive thing Vardy did all game was his dummy run for our goal, other than that he was probably our worst forward.

The two batterings against Liverpool and Man City seem to have really shaken us.

No more of this “We’re third. What more do you want? Be positive.”

That would be easy to do if we could see promise in performance. And those points will soon be eaten up by the chasing pack. Achievement breeds motivation and we’re not that far in front.

That’s the performance after a full week’s training and preparation. Worrying signs. We’re going to drop out the top 4 very soon and the I fear that’ll be our season. Lose all momentum and finish disappointingly. We’re not stepping up. We had the benefit of seeing teams drop points yesterday and didn’t have the grit to take advantage of that today. These players look nervous. We’ve lost the rhythm I’m afraid and everything seems disjointed.
