No political discussion in this topic. That is complaining about a country, a politician, a party and/or its voters, etc

More than 70,000 people have been caught violating the measures introduced to slow the spread of coronavirus since 11 March, with nearly 10,000 people reported by police on Friday alone.

Nearly 2,000 business owners have been suspended for breaching the lockdown.

And they have a military style police force, this is nothing to do with how slow/quick governments shut things down, its to do with the average joe being a complete  d1ckhead and not taking responsibility simple as!

Apparently, lots of numpties have been visiting Skegness and Bridlington today. Could we soon see non-essential movements between regions or even between counties banned?

Well of you think that the Easter holidays were scheduled to start at the end of next week and a great many people will have booked a caravan, B&B, hotels, cottages by the seas etc I think something will have to happen or we're going to have thousands driving all over the place.

I think we'll continue to see numbers like this until social distancing/lockdown is fully in place.

Given how people have been acting and heavily socialising and for how long it takes for tests to be done/results received, I can't see numbers going down. Hopefully in a couple of weeks it'll plateau like we've seen with China and then come down. But it needs discipline from ALL of the public. Not random idiots in groups still trying to go out to go to bars and parties etc.

Sadly no chance. we're on a similar trajectory to Spain and Italy. About 2  weeks behind them and possibly another 4  weeks on top of that to the peak numbers. Because we haven't tested very many people we have no idea at all how many are infected, where they are  or who they have/are mixing with.

I don't think the general public has the discipline. A total and absolute lockdown of probably two months (maybe even three) is probably the only way to bring numbers under control.

I don't want to politicise this but the last 2 governments have cut the NHS to the bone and now this is going to overwhelm an already overstretched and under-resourced service. After this thing passes there will be a huge social and economic bill to pay having (rightly so) financially supported businesses and workers. The NHS and other public services as well as us, the general public, will be footing that bill by further funding restrictions. Austerity on a scale we haven't experienced thus far.

I was always amazed that the plans to restructure the 3 hospitals in Leicester building new wards  etc showed we would have the same or less beds than we have now. It all seem to be based on the perfect scenario with everything working perfectly and no major incidents even ones nowhere near as bad as this could get. And there seemed to be no consideration for any increase in the population.

At least that's how I understood it at the time.

In a major dilemma now, I foster a child who qualifies to go to nursery as a “vulnerable child”. Initially I was quite relieved as it would have been extremely difficult for me and my partner to work from home with him (a very very needy 2 year old lol).

Also we don’t have much money so having him in nursery would be ideal from the perspective too. However now I’m worried that I’ll be putting him (and everyone in the family) at risk by letting him go to nursery.

In theory at the rate the virus is spreading it is feasible he could contract it somehow at nursery. I’m struggling to weigh it up, is anyone else in the same boat?

Had to nip to the shop to top up the gas and electric, someone behind me went to the lottery stand licked their fingers and rifled through the slips. Then decided she'd have a rummage through the sweets on the tills.

People just don't give a shit and have  some weird sense of entitlement that they can do what they want.

We've got more chance of nailing piss to a lamppost than getting people to obey a simple rule.

Yes, they’re still burning. Most are now under control but they are still burning. This is today’s map.

And this, sadly, is a symptom of a far bigger problem that is continually kicked into the long grass.  Maybe after all this is over, government's can start taking action on climate change.

Covid-19 is doing a pretty good job at cleaning up cities’ air pollution.

Aldi do a Corona lager. Some people are really dim. Panic buying has now spread to alcohol. Empty booze shelves in Aldi Shepton Mallet, especially cheap and strong cider. The Polish store assistant looked absolutely exhausted. Corona stocks right to the edge of the shelf, untouched.

It's gonna be tough to get some beers in now, now that the human excrement that I saw at Anstey's Coach and Horses last night (celebrating as if it were NYE 1999) will be swarming the supermarkets like locusts

Sadly we can’t choose which demographic suffers most in this apart from the elderly .......

You got a flagon? I was wandering round London yesterday filling up at my favourite pubs. Took the equivalent of 8 pints home on the tube.

Probably less likely to if the debt to get through this does stay on government balance sheets

Enough to sort you for one night then!

Whenever this whole thing is sorted, we'll have to have a catch up in Shepherd's Bush again.

We lost the semi overall, but that boozer had 4 city fans to 0 Villa 🙂....in fact so few were in there we could claim the pub was 80% City

This has lots of sobering information, taken from an American perpective.

This is an absolutely brilliant read, and in some ways quite optimistic conclusion that there might be another way to tackle the problem (like South Korea, Singapore, etc) that doesn’t lead to the catastrophic outcomes inherent in the mitigation strategy.

Basically, get control early with extra strong measures to socially distance and isolate, with ongoing control by extensive testing and tracing. All the time building up Health System capacity, gearing up production and use of PPE, and developing new treatments through research.
