Master Fox Posted 29 March 2020 Posted 29 March 2020 Just play the games behind closed doors. No big deal.
Fish Posted 29 March 2020 Posted 29 March 2020 Ok , leagues aborted (hope not) who qualifies for champions league for next season ?

The problem with this is spurs have already played in the champions league this season and been knocked out of it. Chelsea are also on the brink of being eliminated. It would be a bit unfair if they were given another chance in it.
Kitchandro Posted 29 March 2020 Posted 29 March 2020 Quote https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52086428 Harry Kane: End of June the limit for season, says Tottenham striker Case and point as to why I've always hated this guy. Self, self, self. Sensible, fair people agree we need to be patient and wait for this to pass and then make sure the season is finished. But no, if it's not about Harry Kane, Harry Kane doesn't care. He's not top of the scoring charts and his team can't possibly win a trophy (as usual) so he just wants it forgotten about. Comments from people like him trying to pressurise the league into making a decision are an absolute disgrace.

But if that's the order of the day.
Great Boos Up Posted 29 March 2020 Posted 29 March 2020 It's been floods, pestilence and famine. Football is a big part of our lives, but there is a line. 1 last game behind closed doors and close season. Pool get their day and others on the line have a chance. (no play offs)

I struggle to see there'll be a champions League next season. At best, the EPL will be up and running in August. But what if, say, Spain's still in a mess. Or Serbia. Or Poland. There's absolutely zero chance all of Europe will be functioning in August. And, there's a high probability next winter will be disrupted by a second wave.. Liverpool's title has all but gone. Leeds's promotion. Our champions League place. Hey ho. As you were.

Yeah sounds about right to be fair. Instead of voiding the league they’ll give us a champions league spot and then tell us there’s going to be no champions league
shailen Posted 29 March 2020 Posted 29 March 2020 End the season as it stands if people want to end it. It's not fair to write off a season which is over 75% complete - it's not like we have played 5 or 10 games. The most unfair outcome would be to scrap it completely, followed by finish it as is and finally the fairest being finish it when it is safe to play again. Teams that have not had the season they wanted are now coming out with noises about cancelling the season. Its a nonsense - are they gonna return the money to all fans and even TV broadcasters who have bankrolled the season to date, all for nothing if it gets cancelled. It might seem biased from a Leicester fan, but even if we were fighting relegation you can't just undo what has gone on before.

Cov were robbed of a cup winners' cup place in 87. Everton a European cup place. Wimbledon a cup winners' cup. All nowadays would've probably sued Liverpool for loss of income (Liverpool causing the English ban from Europe between about 85 - 90 thanks to them contributing to the deaths of 39 Juve fans) You play the hand you've been dealt.
LestaAl Posted 29 March 2020 Posted 29 March 2020 Still not expecting football will be played before start of August. EPL will do all they can to finish in the following 6 weeks of the restart date. The following season will be delayed until who knows when and agree with the point that European football may be curtailed / cancelled for the coming season because many parts of Europe will still be in considerable turmoil. ...maybe Corona virus will cheat us out of a European tour after all.

inckley fox Posted 29 March 2020 Posted 29 March 2020 Even if - dream scenario - curves everywhere are flattened, therapies are uncovered and, come May, it looks like there's a chance of life returning to normality, there will still be a huge chance of another outbreak over the next 12 months. After the controversy of stripping Liverpool of their title, the greatest problem is that if you set the precedent of null-and-voiding this season, you may well have to do the same thing for next season too. And, bearing in mind scientists believe we're in a pandemic era, it could create an atmosphere wherein you don't really know whether you're competing for trophies, or just the first place position at the end of another abandoned contest. Null-and-voiding the competition should be the last of the options on the table. Come June, I suspect closed doors or massively reduced capacities, coupled with regular testing of players (and possibly something similar to the isolation measures mentioned in the Independent) will be the approach. If they can't do that then next season really should have to accommodate this season, even if it means having the following season played winter to winter, or over an eighteen month period, or even reduced to a 19 game campaign. It's not just a case of sides' efforts up to now having to count for something, it's about the integrity of the competition going forward into an uncertain era.

They may try getting this going but it only takes a Jack Grealish to go contract it and the whole thing gets fvcked up.
shailen Posted 29 March 2020 Posted 29 March 2020 If it gets to a stage where they have to start next season, why can't we just merge the current season into next season so you play all teams 4 times (2 at home and 2 away) and cut one of the cup competitions and international friendlies to accommodate for finishing this season. We cannot completely scrap whats happened this season.
Tomassi Posted 30 March 2020 Posted 30 March 2020 Not sure if this idea has already been put forward... Man City, Sheff U, Arsenal and Villa to play game in hand, then finish season as a 29 game season. Teams in automatic places in Championship, League 1, League 2 go up, those in play offs have semis (1 leg only) and finals. Teams in relegation zone go down. Void Non-league. No relegation from League 2. There's no ideal solution, but this way only a few teams play, and only 1/2 games to finish current season.

On a biased note our first half of the season was brilliant. It would be ashame to lose those points .
cambridgefox Posted 30 March 2020 Posted 30 March 2020 Considering we have played 75% of games,I personally think finishing this season is more important than starting next.
Gazza M Posted 30 March 2020 Posted 30 March 2020 The leagues are every clubs bread and butter and must be finished in my opinion, even if Liverpool are lifting the trophy whilst people are having their Christmas dinner. The other competitions may have to have a year off in my opinion. As for international football that is pure luxury and can be parked as long as required. Southgate can hang up his waist coat and wait for the inevitable Mourinho dummy out at Spurs.
Scotch Posted 30 March 2020 Posted 30 March 2020 I'm not sure if it has been covered but what happens to the TV money if the season cant be completed? SKY and BT Sport pay for a certain number of games, if they are not provided with those games then the PL are in breach of contract. Surely they wouldnt need to pay for this season.....
Super_horns Posted 30 March 2020 Posted 30 March 2020 They seem pretty keen to get the games played! Won't be any football if the self isolation/social distancing rules are still in place though. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/coronavirus-premier-league-isolated-camps-remaining-fixtures-dates-suspension-latest-a9432961.html%3famp
Dames Posted 30 March 2020 Posted 30 March 2020 There is no way they will cancel this season. The lawsuits that would follow would completely bankrupt the FA and Premier League. I do find it interesting that the biggest calls for cancellation are fans of teams that have nothing to play for or teams that aren't doing so well I.e. Arsenal and Spurs fans.

This would work, as Man City home game v Arsenal postponed and Villa's home game v Sheff Utd before big shutdown. Still likely to legal challenges though

This, no matter what happens this season has to finish .. you don't start another season it doesn't make sense when fit to do so they should finish this season and worry about the start of next season when we are able to find a start date for this one. Anything else would be criminal it's not a hard concept to adapt it's not as if next season has to start on X date just move the goal posts to fit
