Timothy Castagne

Welcome to the club! I think he will be a good signing and might even improve us initially. Chilwell on his day was very good but also had a lot of poor games. A more consistent player might be just what we need, especially as he's supposedly pretty good defensively.

I also like out investment in Belgian players. That country is a rising power on the world stage and continue to develop highly technical players. With OHL as our sister club over there too, I can see us picking up more promising Belgian players in the next few years too.

Simply not good enough...... we should have rushed into buying Joe Mattock in July.

Scouting players who suit the way we play and have talent isn’t as important as signing players early ;)

Not likely, Ash. I'm sure Castagne will play left back and do fairly well but if you can't see why signing a, mostly, right back to replace Chilwell and for half the money might make this place twitchy, you're being a bit naive.

People are anxious and kinda reasonably so, even if they're spouting some drivel because of it.

We're about to go in to the most physically challenging season of this clubs entire history. It's going to be wall to wall playing every other day.

We struggled last year, a lack of squad depth completely ruined our season at Christmas and we never recovered. We need major reinforcement all over the pitch. We had a Champions League 11 last year with a Sunday League bench.

There has to be signings.

I understand entirely why the money might not be there, we're living in a hugely turbulent time, globally, not just for football. Knowing that might make someone more tolerant of the owners and board but it won't make it any less stressful going in to the new season looking so thin.

That's why this signing MAKES so much sense for your rational reasoned points / concerns above.

I'm sure more will come too, making our squad more robust.

Do you not see how signing a player like Castagne who can cover multiple positions at full back and also if we really need probably further forward is extremely beneficial to these points?

Quite clear? Right so we are missing our best centre back for the first 3 weeks and our 36 year old 3rd best had to hobble off the pitch on Saturday.

Who are we planning to use at CB?

We buy a new centre back or two....

Or is everyone going to bitch and moan about that now they can't bitch and moan about not signing a Chilwell replacement.

When will everyone learn, to just wait and see where we are before throwing their toys out.

I think this comes down to the fact that I’m happy the club have signed a player of this calibre, but I just don’t understand why we can’t do the simple thing and replace a left-back with a specialist left-back.

Unless we’re playing a back 3 long-term, and Brendan sees JJ as a RCB. So Castagne is back-up to Ricky, and we’re still on the hunt for a LB. This seems unlikely, however.

Nice those wages are cheap at £25k a week maybe gives us more to spend elsewhere

Surely no way, even with a chunky signing on fee is he on that p/w?. Imagine him frowning at Dimi week after week on the training field with rage when comparing salarys 🤔

We won the league with QPR's second choice right back... give the lad a chance.

We also had a class left back. That's something we don't have right now.

People are "bitching and moaning" because we haven't signed a Chilwell replacement. That's the point.

If Castagne was as good as he is on the right but on the left then nobody would complain. He'd fill a hole for two years until Thomas is ready.

Instead we've signed a right wing back that can occasionally play at left wing back. I struggle to see where he starts in the team. We all saw how much of an utter disaster the 5 at the back spell was last season.

If we went and got a specialist left back to replace Chilwell then there wouldn't be a problem whatsoever.

Do you not think it's ridiculous to go and spend 24m on a wing back when we don't currently have any option but to play a flat back 4?

He can play left or right sided defence also down either wing and reports are he cost  £18m or €20 however you look at prices

and Jamie Vardy can play on the wing. We all know what his actual position is.

I think that Castagne must be Chilwell's replacement, otherwise is he a luxury utility player?  That would still leave us needing that LB along with other priorities such as CB, striker & RW.  I really can't see us spending that kind of money.

I think if we're honest, TC is not the replacement that we had hoped for.  I say 'we' because I am judging this assumption on the threads we have seen all summer.  The links that have caused a stir and some excitement among us and those that have not.

Is he crap?  Of course not, but he is well down the list of targets we might have hoped for in my opinion.
