Wouldn’t worry too much as long as your views are not extreme, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

You might want to change your username if it’s your real name. You don’t want to make the lynching too easy.

I'm unsure what channel you're beating but I don't like what you're implying.

Don't bother pursuing any line of argument if it's just resultant in you being passive aggressive.

There's an entire forum for football.

What we have in London today is probably on the whole two sets of people who misunderstand the message, and really are going for a bit of a scrap. Neither of the more extreme members of each side will like the cops and neither will like each other. So it’s a great excuse for them to kick off and cause a scene. Seeing rotund old men running around in their flat caps and XXL Fred Perry’s throwing bottles of piss at the cops isn’t exactly a true representation of what any level headed person would do. It’s essentially a royal rumble today.

We’ve seen that the more peaceful of the protesters have withdrawn action this weekend to avoid such incidents. Either was the scenes of potential impending violence does nothing but harm the cause.

Brilliant post.

What Covid and all these protests has taught me is that I dislike the left wing just as much as I've always disliked the right wing.

Always considered myself left but now couldn't feel less associated with the desperate-to-be-offended, virtue signalling, condescending sods.

I take solace in the fact that more extreme views shout louder. While on the face of it you'd think everybody is either extreme right or left, the silent majority is in fact much more representative.

Great post, think that`s the way most of us feel.

Biden with a current polling lead in six out of the key eight battleground states - arguably, he only needs two or three in November.

I've not actually heard much from him or the mainline Dems of late, which is actually a reasonably sound strategy IMO because right now they can sit tight and let Trump make an absolute Horlicks of the current situation (and, of course, he is).

Ah, I see, thank you.

Just wanted to be sure that we're not about to head down a road that considers one demographic or another to have an inherent predilection for such acts, because that's a pretty rocky road.

I`m not averse to rocky roads if they have the truth at the end of them, whatever that truth is.Think it`s pretty sinister that may be implied. As always, you should`nt rub the lamp if you don`t want the Genie to pop out.

All Biden had to do is not make a tit of himself, not get involved in any controversy and he’s home.
Trump has got COVID wrong, whilst that was still going on he massively ****ed up the BLM Protests, but, you know he has some play up his sleeve, he will go down swinging, I just hope it isn’t the old there’s nothing that wins an election like a good war line.

Totally agree.

However, if I may be plain, the idea that any racial group (no matter which one) has an inherent capability for "immoral" acts is eugenicist horsedung that belongs in the rubbish bin of history and is so far from any "truth" you'd need the James Webb Space Telescope to see it. And I'll happily voice that truth whenever it might be necessary.

Not saying it's necessary here, of course, but you know...just to be certain on the matter.

Oh yes, don't underestimate Teflon Don, not ever.

For what it's worth I think an appeal to jingoism may well not get the job done by itself this time - too many swing voters see through it - but possible voter suppression does IMO need to be looked at because that's my greatest worry regarding this coming election.

With all the stuff about police brutality, I get that it was unacceptable in the case of George Floyd and the racial connotations, but you cannot take away the powers of authority figures like the police, otherwise law and order would be fully disturbed.

Imagine a world where no one was scared of the police, people would be doing whatever they wanted, not fearing the consequences. Maybe the police should take an education course outlining racial prejudice as part of their training, and managing how they use excessive force.

Josh probably not the best turn of phrase in the current climate. The thing is these forums are not about people trying to find stuff out or ask questions. It’s about shouting entrenched views at others in a way you wouldn’t do in real life, particularly when it strays in these kind of areas.

Take it for what it is. I do worry for some though that seem to spend most of their time here seemingly being angry or offended all the time. I don’t think it can be good for their mental health.

I can see how it might seem that way most of the time on here, but there are threads where some finding happens - check out the Sci/Tech thread for example.

Leicester mayor Peter Soulsby making the headlines today for flouting lockdown rules.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11858638/labour-mayour-diy-lovers-house/

I can see what his defence is going to be from this bit:

"He and Lesley have been together for a few years but they have separate addresses and he certainly didn’t move in.

He just came and went as he pleased, staying three or four times a week, and he did this all through lockdown. He was blatantly breaking the rules".

It's a grey area, isn't it, couples in a longstanding relationship with two addresses but who regularly spend overnights at one of them?

If he only started staying over during lockdown, he'd be bang to rights. But if they've "been together for a few years", that's presumably not the case?

I presume he was staying over regularly before - so can just turn round and say they were a single household but he kept on a separate address - maybe partly for work reasons, as his address is in Leicester and hers isn't? :dunno:

More amusingly, I don't imagine local residents will like this bit: "Groby, a sprawling village on the edge of Leicester" :D

I think he probably has done wrong here but aren't we reaching the point where nobody gives a toss about this stuff anymore?

As is typical in these stories, there's a picture with a caption that describes in far too much detail what you can see in front of you. "in chinos, lilac polo shirt and baseball cap". There must be a reason for it, but I'm buggered if I know what it is

After the election in December I unmuted one of my Corbynite friends of Facebook (I muted them because they're constantly sharing a stream of anarchist socialist "sjw" propaganda). In one of his posts complaining about Boris being a fascist (which I don't believe he is, personally) one of his comrades commented that he'd rather have communism than fascism. I asked if we could just have neither of them, and just got called a centrist cvnt. The people on the far left are genuinely frightening. They do shout the loudest though, and we need to resist their lunacy.

I'm worried that any violence against police will give Trump the edge.

I don't know much about Biden other than being Obama's number 2 but he has to be a steadier pair of hands who can hopefully give a few years of stability back to the country.

Whilst that mess was going on in London yesterday, where I live there was a peaceful demonstration and march. There were speeches from a few local black people about their experiences of racism in our city and in the UK generally, and then a march through the city centre with a decent police presence. There were whispers of trouble from ‘counter-protestors’ beforehand, but luckily none showed up - probably on a train to London. There was pretty decent social distancing going on - almost everyone had a mask, the police filtered the march so it went in waves, and I wasn’t close to anyone for more than a second or two. It was quite a nice antidote to the scenes I’ve been seeing on Twitter - no racist, thugs, and no real sign of any ‘hard left’ - just a few hundred/a thousand people showing solidarity with the black community in a respectful way.

I presume that such descriptions provide further fodder for curtain-twitchers (of any political persuasion) who enjoy sneering, tutting and ridiculing their political foes or just folk in general.

I can just imagine the exclamations: "Lilac....he's wearing a lilac shirt [snort]....and a baseball cap with chinos [tut]....a baseball cap at his age [snort]....to visit his fancy woman [sneer]". lol

I presume he wasn't deliberately and disrespectfully pissing on the monument of the dead hero PC. If he'd been intending that, he'd have pissed directly onto it, not to one side.

I imagine that he's just a dozy tosser with reactionary views who'd necked a dozen cans of Carling on his big day out and didn't even know that the monument was there.

Once he sobers up, he might feel pretty guilty about accidentally disrespecting a copper who died fighting terrorism - and unintentionally providing massively bad PR for his reactionary cause.
