urban.spaceman Posted 17 June 2020 Author Posted 17 June 2020 Wes Morgan and Christian Fuchs agree new deals with Leicester City Exclusive: The duo were both key in the historic Premier League title-winning season and have extended their careers at the King Power By John Percy 17 June 2020 • 10:30pm Wes Morgan and Christian Fuchs will both be with Leicester City for the next 12 months Credit: REUTERS Get unlimited access to our expert Premier League analysis with a sport-only Telegraph subscription - £40 for 12 months (less than £1 a week) Wes Morgan and Christian Fuchs are signing new contracts with Leicester City in a significant boost for Brendan Rodgers. Morgan and Fuchs were both key players in the historic Premier League title-winning season of 2015-16 and have agreed 12-month deals to extend their careers at the King Power Stadium. Leicester captain Morgan, 36, has found first-team opportunities limited this season but remains a hugely respected figure at the club and is now committing himself to a 10th campaign. He was signed from Nottingham Forest for just £1 million in January 2012 and has made over 300 appearances. Fuchs, the left-back, was considering the prospect of leaving this summer as his family are based in the United States, where he has helped devise a 1,000-seater esports arena. But Rodgers has persuaded the 34-year-old to sign another year's extension ahead of next season, with Leicester targeting a place in the Champions League. Fuchs was signed on a free transfer from Schalke in 2015 and helped the club win the title under Claudio Ranieri in his first season. Nampalys Mendy, the midfielder, has signed a short-term contract to play until the end of the truncated season and remains in negotiations over possibly staying beyond the summer. Leicester are also extending the loan agreement for Wolves defender Ryan Bennett's loan deal, who joined from Wolves in January. He has not played a minute for the club yet but, with his contract due to expire in June, Leicester will sign him up or the remaining nine games. Leicester initially struck a deal to sign Bennett permanently for £5m this summer if they decide to take up the option or if he plays a certain number of matches. Rodgers takes his team to Watford this weekend for a meeting with former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson.
UniFox21 Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 Brilliant news, both great figures to have in the dressing room and training pitch. Both could be vital in this run in and with our move to the new training ground.
urban.spaceman Posted 17 June 2020 Author Posted 17 June 2020 Really feel for Mendy. Had massive boots to fill but got injured straight away, and by the time he was available we'd already scouted and signed a player he just couldn't compete with. Even when he did eventually get to play under Puel he was put in a role that he performed well in but still stifled the team. I hope his career recovers.

Freeman's Wharfer Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 Great news - wouldn’t have liked for them to end in front of an empty stadium. Not what they deserve at all.
StriderHiryu Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 Excellent news. We know how important Morgan and Fuchs are in terms of setting an example off the pitch, and in the case of Fuchs especially, he always gives a good account of himself when he's called upon. It's also nice that Mendy and Bennet are staying until at least the end of the season, as I feel like that's good for morale. Will be interesting to see what happens to Mendy as IMo he is good enough to play for a mid table team in the Premier League or a top 7 team in France as a regular starter. He won't start here but he's looked more than adequate when called upon by Rodgers and given European football would definitely provide good cover, which would otherwise force us into the market. You can understand if he wants to move on to start though!
StanSP Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 WOOOOOOOOOOOO! Great players to have in the dressing room. Great influences for younger lads.
The whole world smiles Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 I really hope we get Mendy extended. Could potentially be very expensive to find a replacement on his level especially with potentially an extra 10 or so games in Europe next season.
Ric Flair Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 Brilliant, especially Mendy for those 9 games. I think he will be needed.
rachhere Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 Great news! Delighted Fuchs is staying, I really didn’t think he would with the likely travel restrictions. Really hope we get Mendy to sign on for next season as well - I think he would be a great asset to us.
Hales Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 Amazing! Certainly didn't think Fuchs would stay. Great the other lads have agreed to stay on too.
MPH Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 important one is Bennet extending his loan. #Leicesterlegend
Guest SO1 Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 Much needed depth for next season in the champions league. If we're going to go top 4 or better we have to have the depth. Next window is a big window for us covid or no covid
lcfc sheff Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 Mendy potentially getting a new deal; I didn’t see that coming in all honesty! also surely Bennett won’t be signed for £5m if wes and Fuchs have signed new deals??
Shane Posted 17 June 2020 Posted 17 June 2020 Give Knight a chance next season instead of spending 5m on Bennett imo

tom27111 Posted 18 June 2020 Posted 18 June 2020 Great news. Fuchs is undoubtedly one of my favourite ever City players. Professional and gives his all on the pitch and seems like a really nice guy with a great sense of humour off the pitch. He's also got his head screwed on and seems destined for good things after his playing career. Great that Wes is sticking around too. The pair of them will add so much experience and pass on great advice to the youngsters.
Nicolo Barella Posted 18 June 2020 Posted 18 June 2020 That is promising, especially Fuchs, who is still a great LB and LCB in a three.
Deeg67 Posted 18 June 2020 Posted 18 June 2020 I love Fuchs and Wes, but I really would rather we weren't counting on them for on-field contributions past this season. Christian has obvious technical ability and he can still play if the opponent has no pace - he's a great option for cup matches. But Morgan is really past it.
