He’s one of the best defenders in the Championship. Improved massively in the last 12 months. It’s no secret we’ve looked at him as a possible option in January. Ticks the club / English quota, having been trained here.

If he’s happy to be a squad player then fine, but if he expects to start ahead of Evans, Soyuncu, Fofana... and possibly others... no thanks.

I can see us being interested if he is indeed good enough to be a squad player for a PL team as good as ours.

 

I'd also say that we will need to strengthen in that area in the summer if Wes retires, Evans doesn't renew his contract, and Fuchs also leaves. I'd also be expecting bids for Soyuncu, certainly, and maybe even Fofana.

 

Obviously we're not going to let all those players go but we're going to need someone in even if it's just Wes who's no longer a part of the squad.

Next season we'll probably need someone happy to be 4th choice behind Fofana, Soyuncu & Evans. Maybe this will turn out to be a good squad signing
