My dad would also reminisce and recollect about watching him play, similar to how he describes watching Weller as well.

Sad news, not old enough to have watched him play but my old man always talked about him as the most skilful he's seen and a player who was way ahead of his time.

Total football genius, that was ahead of his time. 

 

I was queuing up outside the ticket office at the baseball ground, before we played them once. 

Didn't know it was him, just some bloke with a cowboy hat on. 

He turned to me and my mate and said 'alright lads' and smiled. 

I was more made up meeting him, than us beating the rams that day.

Rip frank. Was before my time so I never saw him play but my Dad raved about him. Shame he only got 8 England caps when he was clearly such a talented player.

RIP Frank Worthington. He was a legend for our club. Pretty sure I also remember him scoring for England when we had 3 players in the side, Whitworth and Weller. Sad day.

Was nearly named after him due to him scoring in a 2-0 win away at Ipswich the moment I popped into this world. 
 

I must have seen him play but was far too young to remember which is a shame as I grew up with my parents telling me what a great player he was.

Look at Le Tissier he only got about 10. Part of it will be playing for an unfashionable club, part of it is at times we are scared of these maverick player, the ultra skillful game changers.

He was my number 9 for over 40 years in my All-Time Leicester XI. Until the GOAT came along.

 

He chatted up my sister once in his Bolton days in Alderley Edge Wine Bar. Believe it or not, his opening line was 'Do you come here often?'...

My old man won a competition to meet him when he was younger. Frank thought that was a bit dull and took him to the pub instead.

 

Never heard him speak more highly of any other player.

I'll never forget the coach trip down to Wembley for the Swindon play off final. We stopped off at Toddington services and there were thousands of Leicester there.

 

Everyone was queuing for a piss and the toilets were rammed. Someone spotted Frank at the urinal and started singing his name. All of a sudden the whole place erupted into "Frankie Wortho, Frankie Wortho, ello, ello" and he looked round and smiled at everyone (and duly pissed all over his cowboy boots )

Considering the state of the pitches, heavy footballs and some horrific tackles and challenges allowed back then, Frank was a genius, a cultured footballer and a true entertainer.

 

A man who loved life to the full, thanks for the memories Elvis and you’ll go straight in to the team up there
