Overated AT BEST. look elsewhere

How have you come to the conclusion that a midfielder, who scored 11 goals last season in one of the worse sides in the division, is overrated?

To be honest this guy doesn’t excite me and I don’t know why. The reality is he scored and created a ridiculous amount in a side that were utter bobbins - and he did it in the Premier League. I think that’s a strong argument that he is EXACTLY what we need. He can hit the ground running and will probably only flourish in a better side with better players around him.

I’ve slowly come round to this transfer if it can be done. I’d still prefer Noni, but Pereira is a good option in all fairness.

Can see him goin China for silly wages

Chinese Football is bankrupt.  Teams are going into liquidation.  The finances of the average China Super League Club now make Derby look like Chelsea.

I think part of it is because in the 2 games he played against us he was anonymous. West Brom were not a side to get the pulses going either, I barely watched any of their games as I couldn't stomach it. I did however watch their games vs Chelsea, Wolves and Villa and he was very strong in some of those, when he's at the heart of everything he's an absolute wizard.

Left footed right winger but can play central too, scored more last season than Perez and Albrighton could only dream of, most importantly it'll finally bring us a Brazilian.

Sure Madders can get down the salon and sort that

Like you , I didn't jump at the chance to watch West Brom but the Chelsea game they looked like a different team to to the one we played. I think Pereira would fit us better than West Brom, He'd get a lot of game time and would surely better last seasons impressive figures?

Highlights of the last season, seems like he just gets to roam and do what he wants, whilst coming in off the right

Makes me laugh how he seems to make a good pass and yet the other West Brom players seem to absolutely scuff their shots lol

Everyone wants Pereira for putting up decent numbers for a poor side, everyone hates Perez yet he had similar attacking output for Newcastle across more than just one season (and us in his first season)

Ok then

He actually reminds me of Perez's highlight reel lol Not really seeing what some others are :dunno:

But, I'd take him if the price is right I guess

Do we even want a Brazilian if he's not Gabigol levels of unhinged flair though?

I agree, and at the quoted 25m seems a little risky. I suppose it's better than a Dan James loan move.

....strangely enough I do not look at the stats of players as the first or second consideration!!!

Just watching them play is the main reason to speculate on what they can bring to our team, the way he interacts on the pitch with his team mates and his decision making. Just watching the YouTube show reels, you see multiple chances being created and the striker or support attacker fail to score when put clean through. It just goes to show the stats says one thing, but the reality is something different.

Equating YouTube show reels with reality ... :revenge:

Demarai Gray is a 50M player off his YouTube reel

Pereira has the brain for top level football , if you haven't got that you will never succeed no matter what else you can do (see Demarai Gray).

Pereira is much more comfortable playing wide than Perez and a considerably more ambitious passer of the ball.

Pereira's  goal or assist contributions work out at 0.59 per 90s. Perez's contributions work out at 0.38 per 90. Quite a big difference.

Have to remember that Pereira was WBA's focal point last season. Perez is another piece in the jigsaw (as Pereira would be if he came here) and we don't build the team to get the most out of him. Are those per 90 contributions for all time Premier League appearances?

They are over all premier league appearances.

Perez' contributions are very similar compared to his time at Newcastle, he has averaged 0.40 contributions per 90 for us in the premier league.

Being the focal point at WBA doesn't mean his output would decline here. He'd be surrounded by much better players and likely be playing on the front foot much more. It's impossible to know how the switch would impact his productivity. But what we do know is he's shown more productivity in his first season in the league than Perez ever has.

Do we need an ambitious passer of the ball? You've got Maddison and Tielemans in the starting 11 who try to break the lines often enough, you need guys who are able to keep things simple and ticking over when you play a controlling possession game in the oppositions half.

Also, really not sure Pereira would suit our high-press either (our midfield was already fairly easy to bypass at times last season when fatigued). He's a very good technical player but I really don't see him being an upgrade on what we have or suiting us tactically to be frankly honest.

I think competition for Madders is essential. We know Praet isn’t fancied for whatever reason, maybe bro going in MP can cover the much maligned RF / RW whilst offering both cover and decent completion for JM.

Is that not what Perez already does?

No. I think he was potentially brought in for that. But I don’t think he’s done either role effectively. I don’t want this to become another Perez thread. He’s in most threads as it is.

Me neither, I just fail to comprehend why everyone is so desperate to replace him and thinks he's so poor compared to these guys linked on here that people are desperate to sign (most have hardly seen any of them play)

I agree that most of the criticism of Perez is overdone, he is a skilful player. However he was the wrong player for what we needed and Rodgers spent too long trying to hammer a square peg into a round hole. He is a support striker or ACM and is now really Maddison's deputy. He is OK in those roles and as a bench player that is fine but I am not so sure we need that now. Pereira is a stronger player than Perez with excellent vision and dead ball skills , which would help us considerably. The case for buying him is strong but at the moment there is no indication the club wants to spend the money.
