....very much a situation where we wanted to get someone in who was a senior pro to play alongside Soyuncu!!!

We had enquired about him for some time and we chose to go with his signature as he fitted what we needed. We were aware of his limitations and they have proven to be more insurmountable that we would have expected.

Could not see us picking up a young player with Fofana and Soyuncu also in the backline, it was a judgment call, it seemed to have made sense at the time.

Yes, I think that's a fair judgement.

Pretty clear to me that Daka/Soumare are 'club' signings, and Bertrand/Vestegaard are Rodgers's input.

Vestegaard goes totally against the Fofana/Soyuncu/Benkovic/Maguire type of signings, and is too expensive to be a cheap experienced head like Evans/Bertrand.

He's totally against the style of signing because with the others they were all brought in with months of planning in mind, we ended up a week before the season with one fit CB and needing to find anyone remotely suitable/available with PL experience.

I'm surprised at how many are having a pop at him. I thought he did okay today, certainly wasn't as poor as Tielemans, Wilf and Schmeichel. He was excellent against Man City and Chris Wood has troubled every CB we've ever had (because so few PL sides play that style probably) He's come in to a side struggling with confidence and has had a new partner every week plus his niggle after his first game. He's going to be just as troubled as Cags right now because of all the changes and two games a week now til Christmas doesn't give anyone a chance to put things right. Pretty sure there were just as many negative comments after Evans's first few games because he had a nightmare too. The guy needs time and games to get up to speed with how we play and how we do things.

He was fine for the majority of the game except a couple of incidents where he should have done better.

Hes nowhere near as bad as you guys are banging on about, there’s still a lot of room for improvement but he’s been rushed in quickly and hasn’t quite settled yet.

Hes done ok at the min but I expect to see his experience come through over the next few weeks. Give the lad a break.

I’ve never done acid, any good?

How many games has he played for us....:dunno:a

Doesn't really matter does it. It's not like he was an unknown quantity.

He's been playing in the PL for a few years for a bottom half side and the fans of that club didn't particularly rate him. Plus many of us have seen him before.

He looks exactly like what we were told we were getting. He's not going to suddenly turn in to a good player.

The dream is we go to a back 5 with Justin, Soyunchu and Evans with Castange and Perriera on either side but my word he was shit today and so I'd like to apologise for all of my comments and I mean all regarding Amarty being our worst centre back.

He made Burnley look good today and after that yellow card I had him to get sent off at 40/1.

He's a bit shite isn't he? 6'5" with the upper body strength of a ****ing child.

Considering how little he seems to actually jump for crosses in either box - there's been too much Lurching Without Intent :P

I just can't believe how weak he is. We've bought a proper dud here I'm afraid. These aren't problems that I think come as a result of rustiness.

Come on at least show people you actually watched at least 1 minute of the game. Outrageous observation.

He worries me.  But he did some things okay. Comparisons to Ryan Bennett are way off.  He passes well out of defence.   He is assured on the ball.  Defensively, he can be rocky.   He and Soyuncu were left 2 on 2 with Woods and Vydra a couple of times.   On those occasions , we didn't concede

That's not a dream it's a nightmare. I never ever want to see us in a back 5 ever again.

So you'd rather we play the current system which is even worse for us?

Remember all you guys thought he would be a brilliant signing for us while was in a minority wanting the young up and coming Takehiro Tomiyasu, whose really sorted out Arsenal's defence with his pace

You wanted to fix our centre back issue by signing a right back? And you're annoyed people don't agree with you?

I'm basing this on how bad we were in a back 5 at the end of last season as we haven't seen it yet this season. I'd much rather see us try a variation of 4-4-1-1 or 4-3-1-2 where we still get Barnes and/or Lookman in as well as Iheanacho and Vardy.  Maddison and Perez are the pits in a back 3/5 and I still don't see how we can play it with 2 of our 4 fit CB's in horrid form/crap.

I am sure him and Bertrand were just bought for strength in depth when called upon. We need these sorts of players. Once we have a fully fit squad, how good a player do we expect to be able to attract to be an emergency player?

Good observation.  I suppose it's a judgement call whether their experience would, overall, give us more than playing the less experienced Thomas and Amartey.  Personally, I think Thomas would be the better call over Bertrand.  Not sure on the other choice between Vestergaard and big Dan, but Amartey's been pretty solid so far.

I've seen us play worse with a 4 than what we played last season. There were some memorable performances with 3 at the back last year, wins away at man utd, wins in the cup against man utd and Chelsea, beating Sheffield United 5 nil.

We need to get Iheanacho in the team and realistically hes boy going to throw another attacking player in whilst we are so horrifically defensively.

The only way the current 4 works is if we can squeeze the team up the pitch and you need quick centre halves to do that. Otherwise Itll be this dull ponderous possession football that goes nowhere.
