He was fine for the majority of the game except a couple of incidents where he should have done better.

Hes nowhere near as bad as you guys are banging on about, there’s still a lot of room for improvement but he’s been rushed in quickly and hasn’t quite settled yet.

Hes done ok at the min but I expect to see his experience come through over the next few weeks. Give the lad a break.

Our style is to play a high line. Soyuncu and Forfana can play it because they are good defenders, but also their pace rescues them. Amartey doesn't read it as well as them, but his pace rescues him. Evans doesn't have the pace, but has the reading of the game and positioning to get round that. Vestergaard has none of these attributes. I'm sure he'd be a fine in a deeper defence, but with is playing a higher line he's constantly caught out.

What were you watching? Vydra spent the whole game standing 5 yards off him waiting for one ball to be played up and he'd rinse him for pace and get in behind. He missed numerous aerial balls, his anticipation is dreadful, the times Soyuncu was winning a header and then reacting quicker to the second ball when Vestergaard was nearer was ridiculous.

I honestly think he's worse!

I suppose at least Laursen and Bennett didn't cost anything (apart from a few points here and there! 😅)

I'm not going to put the boot in on him. But the big fella was clearly not brought for his pace and mobility. So I assume he's big and strong and can boss the old school strikers like Woods & Barnes. Oh but hang on. Didn't he fail to dominate them physically also? Nearly leading to their winner. So the question I have is what the feck kind of CB is he then?

Worst defender I've seen play for us in the Premier league!

I’m barely 6ft and I honestly think I’m better in the air than this geezer.

Vydra isn't known for being particularly quick is he? Good movement and sharp on the turn maybe, but not blisteringly quick. That 2nd half ball over the top where he got rinsed by him with a 5 yard headstart was just embarrassing.

As someone above said, ok, if you're not quick then no worries maybe you can dominate through reading of the game (a la Evans) or strength in duels (a la Big Wes) but he displayed none of those qualities either. Renders his good distribution totally redundant when defensively he is lacking in so many areas.

He strikes me as the kind of player who might thrive more in a back three, or where we naturally sit a bit deeper against better opposition and don't leave space in behind or down the channels, but for me he cannot play another minute if we're going to leave 2 on 2 against opposition strikers.

I know we had our hands tied with the Fofana injury, but Vestergaard just doesn't seem the right fit at all for us.

Needs to find the weight room down Seagrave.

I’ve thought the same thing since he joined. Traore knocked him off the ball as did the Napoli striker as well as Vydra today.

So weird for such a tall defender.

We’re losing our identity as a team with players like this guy and Bertrand are just average lower half Prem players with more going against them than for them, also only have a year or two left at this level if they’re lucky.

I wish we’d stuck to our guns regarding recruitment and not let Rodgers have his way with Congerton.

£15 million could have been spend on a very decent defender from abroad, aged anywhere from 22-26.

He doesn't provide the kind of 'experience' or 'leadership' that Evans provides, so he's a very pointless signing.

I can't be the only one who thinks Amartey is a better player, and is being harshly mistreated.

Pretty clear to me that Daka/Soumare are 'club' signings, and Bertrand/Vestegaard are Rodgers's input.

Vestegaard goes totally against the Fofana/Soyuncu/Benkovic/Maguire type of signings, and is too expensive to be a cheap experienced head like Evans/Bertrand.

I used to think the opposite regarding amartey but after today amartey is 100% a better defender he's just not as good with his feet which is probably what keeps him out the side.

Some people have seriously low standards for what constitutes a poor player. Looking good most of the time but making major errors every 40 minutes or so is not the standard of player we should be looking to play or even have in the squad. You can look fine most of the time and be a complete liability at the same time, vestegaard fits into that category, he doesnt have the ability to come out on top against opponents consistently
