Don't think anyone would buy him, we will be lucky to get 1 million for him. Hasenhuttl got rid of Southampton's deadwood and now we are stuck with them

Well that would be better than nothing. Sometimes a business needs to rectify a mistake quickly even if it means taking a loss.

He hasn't settled in well but I think there's been a bit of an overreaction. He isn't a total shambles - and Soyuncu and Amartey were both worse than him on Thursday. I'm not sure who people actually want us to play...!

 

It's not scientific or anything but SofaScore's average ratings have Vestegaard as our joint 3rd best player this season (Vardy 7.40, Tielemans 7.15, Vestegaard / Lookman 6.90).

 

I know it has been a frustrating start to the season (and God knows I moan at times) but I sometimes wish our *supporters* would *support* the players a bit more... especially those who are going through a tough spell.

Its about fine margins this season, we mess up with a critical position and it effects the whole team, we have to score more goals then we let in, we could be out of cup runs and if we finish lower bottom are best players may want to leave and it will harder to sign quality players.

No matter how many years Vestegaard stays here and no matter how many training sessions he has, he will always be slow, have the turning circle of an oil tanker and be very vulnerable in a high line or 1v1 situations.

 

For the same fee we could have picked up Guehi, who has very good Championship experience for a guy who is just 21.

He's mobile, good on the ball, and would have been a continuation of our approach to signing progressive players.

For someone a bit more experienced, Joachim Andersen was available too...Who had a good season at Fulham last year, just like Lookman!

 

With a guy like Guehi, his 'lack of PL experience' MAY be an issue, some players can adapt to this level just fine (Ndidi/Fofana/Castagne/Tielemans etc).

But Vestegaard's weaknesses are ALWAYS going to be there.

 

 

Guehi, even if he wasn't ready, although he looks it at Palace, would have time to develop....Vestergaard already needs replacing next summer.

Let be honest most of the defender has been poor, only one I say has been decent is Castagne.

Vestergaard is nowhere near as bad as people on this forum make out. He’s an easy scapegoat because he looks a bit freaky. He’s made good blocks today and passed well. The goals were not his fault.
