Stop knit picking stuff and get a life, be a concern fan and actually do something productive for your life and your club.

I'd expect the scouting team to go away, find players based on a list of requirements and then come back and meet with the manager and director of football and then decide which players to try and sign.

I probably should have been a bit more clearer, I'd expect a manager to be have a say at the final stage. I would not expect the manager to be anywhere near the process of looking for and finding potential targets. The decision on which players to try and sign would be a discussion between head of recruitment, dof and manager.

I wasn't trying to dig you out. We know that players are signed at football clubs without the consent of the manager. I know West Ham used to terrible for it. I remember Allardyce saying he turned up to the training ground one day and the owners came up to him and told him that they've got a new striker for him.

Haha no worries mate, I definitely wasn't clear enough anyway.

For me it should all be geared to a club philosophy, a manager cycle generally lasts 2/3 seasons, so it makes sense for the club to have an identity. This means that when managers  come and go, the club won't be stuck with players that don't fit a new manager's vision.

Wilder has done really well wherever he's been but some of his signings in the PL were questionable. Brewster £23.5m, McBurnie £20m, Mousset £10m, the two full backs from Derby were £10m each I think.

I have no doubt he will get Middlesbrough up but I'll be interested to see how he does in the PL again because that second season at Sheffield United, in the PL, was one of the worse teams I've ever seen.

There's a reason why he's been nowhere near a job since Sheff Utd - lots of negative stuff on his methods at the end of his time. Not many supporters in the game either.

Football cliché alert

If a player has something in his locker, it's important that he gets it out of his locker so that he can set his stall out.

It does seem like he has tried to change his methods though, spent a few months visiting other clubs and managers to see how other managers do things, including us and Rodgers

.. great to see someone with the iniative to take a look at himself and see how he can improve the way he does things!!!

Wish him all the best in finding himself but you can confuse yourself with too many options.

Nice to have an idea of how to play (style and formation) but most managers walk into a club with their own ideas, with existing players who do not fit the way he wants to play.

At least if our DOF takes responsibility for signings away from the manager then we would be insulated from Wilder's poor choices.

I don't want Lampard here. I don't want any Chelsea legends within these gates. We might get Chelsea fans treating us as their second team or something. I'd rather continue to drift into the Championship and below.

In other news, if Kate Winslet needs someone to practice giving blowies to, this bloke is interested.

Don’t know why the headline starts with 43 yr old manager and then a pic of Lampard. The headline should start with Lampard keen to replace Rodgers.
Anyway I don’t want Lampard.

Wow, that list of signings is utterly tragic , £80 mill spent on a pile of total crap . Amazing that anyone would trust him again

If they framed it that way everyone would skim past instead of clicking ( like I did) and realise the article was a load of total bo****ks

Lampard can keep tabs on the club all he likes, if we end up appointing him without even attempting to land the likes of Potter, Conceicao, Garcia, or Galtier, then the club would be making a huge mistake.

The jury is surely out on Lampard, who's had probably two 'decent' seasons as a manager, at best. He may well go on to become a top coach but he surely hasn't earnt the right to manage a club of our ambitions just yet (the Chelsea job was just an easy appointment for their fans, right?).

Agree.

Don’t think it’s possible to form any judgement on Lampard at all yet, because he has been hand held by Chelsea both at Chelsea and at Derby. Giving him Chelsea’s best young talent on loan was a serious leg up.

He has yet to stand on his own two feet in my opinion and he is someone we should be a million miles away from consideration of.

Agree apart from trying to get Potter.

Agree completely. Mancini, Martinez would give us a bit more swagger than the conservative Rodgers approach

Great point about Chelsea helping him out while at Derby. I know it was a few seasons ago now but imagine Mount and Tomori in the Championship

Mancini not a chance of coming either.

Guy has wasted Belgium golden generation.

Just my humble opinion, I’ve always liked his team’s attacking football but am also aware of the amount of goals his Wigan and Everton teams used to concede, just think it would be entertaining to have an attack orientated team
