An experienced pro to support Thomas down the left, whilst we brought back Ricardo and Castagne from injury and surgery, with JJ out till Xmas. Turned horribly with him catching Covid and then ruining his knee. Respectfully disagree. I don't claim any clairvoyant powers, but anyone who saw him waddle through his final season with the Saints didn't need any. 9

You could see it a mike off and a cursory glance over at Saintsweb confirmed that they considered him a well and truly spent force. There is no excuse really.

Vesterguard was slightly more understandable and could be slightly understood, but what a disaster both have turned out to be, makes my stomach churn to think of the money wasted. 1

Vestergaard was only ever an understandable signing if we were going to resign from the Premier League to join a Walking Football Leagie 1 1

I wouldn’t have thought so, if you think the 20 outfield players who started against Preston and Derby gives you two players for each position. Three Goalkeerpers, leaves 2 spots left for Bertrand, Choudhury, Mendy, Wright and Perez. Of those five I would imagine Mendy and Perez would get the final two spots - this obviously could all change with players going out, but I’d have Bertrand currently 30th in line for a squad place.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 This “Covid impacted his success here” line being trotted out is so intriguing. We know he tested positive and missed a game during his isolation period (in the same way that numerous other footballers did at the time) but there’s not been one shred of credible evidence or suggestion from the club that it’s had any long-term impact on him. In fact, if it were a genuine impact, I’m sure we’d have heard about it because the club would want some understanding from the fanbase that he’d been affected. Yet plenty are excusing the horrendous signing he’s been by providing that as some kind of mitigation. It’s bizarre.

I think we’re trying to workout what changed between august when he seemed more than capable and October when he became Sunday league. The gap was filled by a covid infection - hence the deduction. He’s an experienced pro and he was a bloody good LB. Surely he should be at the very least helping Thomas and Justin develop their full back play.
Gav_LCFC14 Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 Palace (A) was a game that particularly stood out last season. He just didt seem bothered at all, was running all the way up the pitch and staying there leaving the left side completely exposed. Nothing to do with fitness, he wasn't watching his man or paying attention.

It should in any event reduce the wage bill at some point. 1

Won't see any difference on wage balance sheet this season.

It might not be that quick but that is how it works and yes there will be all sorts of deductions etc. In principle though, it will reduce the wage balance earlier than if the contract expired.
