Why do we buy 2-3 players who are average, won’t it be better to buy 1 class player .

So if u pay between 10 - 15 million for each player that’s 40 - 50 million, wages are somewhere between 200 to 240 per , we could buy a class player for that kind of money

Which class players in the £40-50 mill bracket are available and willing to join us that come with a cast iron guarantee of success?

the price tag doesn’t matter, it’s all about the scouting.

We could have turned our nose up at okazaki and kante for around 15m and spent 40m on sigurdson. There were probably similar suggestions at the time lol

Ask Everton, they regularly buy “class” players for silly money.

if that one player gets injured then we are stuck. Need a decent squad too

Although one of our problems at the moment it seems, is that we have too many squad players as it is, and are having to offload some. It's always better to recruit for the first team rather than to fill out the squad, because in theory the player you bring in for the first team replaces a current first teamer, and so him dropping to the bench should improve the quality of the bench, given he was formerly in the first team. For the price we are reportedly looking to pay for this player though, and his wages probably won't be that high either, probably makes it a no risk purchase though. If he works out, we get a bargain, if he doesn't, we are not going to be losing alot financially. My misgivings on him making impact though are that he's 28 and never played out of France. You would have thought if he was half decent, he would have been snapped up by a better europeon team at his age. We will have to see, and hope for the best. Like I say, from a financial perspective its no big deal if he doesn't work out, but a big plus if he does.

Just like Musa, Slimani, Silva, Perez, Soumare, Vestegaard?

I'd like us to sign some players as much as the next guy but our recent track record with signings in the bracket you've mentioned there is 50/50 at best.

Agree with this. However, I think the problem is we can’t afford players better than our current first teamers. Let’s not forget we have some bloody good players. A Maddison, Ndidi, Fofana or KDH doesn’t come cheap!

Why are you exclusively equating talent & ability to price? The second is an artificial measure. In short I give you

Harry Maguire - 80mil

Riyad Mahrez - bag of chips

Price guaranteed you nothing. It just increases the risk, and in some cases improves the odds.

And if we get it wrong? Being a £50m player doesn't automatically mean they are going to be a hit. It's not unheard of that we get these big ones wrong.

But 5 £10m players... what are the chances we get all 5 wrong? Out of the 5, I would hope that at least 2 make the jump and do well.

The main issue and as much as we don't like to admit it, players that command that sort of value will get offers from the dirty ESL clubs. We can't compete so have to find other routes to allow us to continously poke them with sharp sticks. Far more enjoyable.
