He was the edge we had over the others. An elite level player in a key position that was always that it too old for a bigger club to take a punt on. A real perfect storm of a signing. He was the main reason we always had a chance of beating the odds.

 

Daka is never likely to hit his level but hardly anyone is. It was a one in a million.

His ability to get very close to the opposition goals is why he picks up a lot of assists too, for an uncreative player.

 

You watch an Erling Haaland highlight reel and it's ridiculous how many of them are just ugly tap ins or opportunist goals because - almost magically - the ball just seems to always land at his feet if its loose in the box.

 

Once or twice is good fortune, consistently is just excellent instincts and positioning. Daka is like that. He scores a LOT of true poachers goals. His highlight reel for us looks like a lot of shithouse scruff if you take each goal individually out of context. When it's a pattern, though, its impressive.

I agree, tbh I think finishing as a skill is overrated. Very few players consistently (i.e., over several years) outperform their xG (and not always the players you think of). The far more important skill is being able to find space and have the sharpness to make those chances.

^ The ball is loose after a scramble in the middle of the park, Patson works hard, gets there first and then immediately knows who to play it to and with a great weight of pass. Praet checks onto his left foot and it's a penalty for Leicester.

Well I've been a huge critic during his time here but this season, at this level, he's been brilliant. Yesterday too the ball out to Praet, who the won the penalty, was good.

 

Although I think Cannon holds the ball better, as a team we just seem to score loads with Daka in the team.
