Thracian Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Kevin Phillips that is at the KP as we speak - Deal until the end of the season. Potential coaching role as well Very clever deal if you ask me - proven goalscorer with massive promotion experience Considerable potential benefits - Philips is a guy who knew his job and has always struck me as the ultimate professional. Last time I saw him was in a friendly down here and he still cut through us like a scimitar. Class player with lots to pass on.
ian_marshall Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 This would be a fantastic addition if we could pull it off. Despite his age, Kevin Phillips has never been a player who has relied upon athletic ability like many modern day strikers. His success has come about through his ability to read the game and a natural instinct for being in the right place at the right time. Therefore, there is no reason that with the number of chances that we create that he wouldn't be a success at Leicester. Some may argue his legs have gone, but as pace has never been a big part of his game I don't think that is necessarily a problem. Recovery might be slower, but I doubt he'd be a first team regular anyway, whilst his killer instinct and experience could be exactly what we need. On side note, I can imagine that these rumours have some substance and that GTF has played a role in facilitating the move as I'm sure they'll know each other from their Blackpool days.
lcfcdave15 Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 The way it's worded sounds a bit like Harry is trying to unsettle his promotion rivals or upset our current strikers. I'm probably wrong but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this was the case. Either way don't like him spouting sh*t like this out when it has nothing to do with him or his club!
kingfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 It's the year 3417. All that is left is dust. The world ended centuries ago. And yet... a faint flicker of life. GOAL: Kevin Phillips (90+3) You posting something good, I'm I seeing things I'll be expecting your second good post, probably around this time next year.
Lionator Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 What a shame we don't have an International striker who's returning from injury. Oh wait...
Maybes Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Good old 'Arry ey. Swear he's pissed up the majority of the time.
Babylon Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Could someone please explain why this is mind games, or clever from Redknapp? The only strikers getting "upset" about this, are going to the ones who are already a bit fed up of not playing. A 40 year old on a 5 month contract is hardly going to get our first choice strikers quaking in their boots about their place. The twitchy twit isn't smart enough to play mind games, and if this is his best shot then I think we can all sleep safely.
Jakemoore Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I'd like him but I reckon Arry' is playing games!
GingerrrFox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Funny how Harry said nothing before about our recruitment or the amount of strikers we have. He was pretty quiet when QPR were top of the league and we were talking to Ebanks-Blake. He's hardly depth of strikers with Zamora, Johnson and Austin. Guarantee they will make a play for Rhodes this January.

Fair point, I was thinking it as I read it but when you put it like that it makes no sense really.
Vlad the Fox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 He's starting to make his excuses. Their form is patchy, can't score goals and the fans are starting to get restless. Could we see another redknapp failure or cut and run.
Banks Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 4? Nugent, Vardy, GTF, Waghorn, Wood, Schlupp Turns out as well as being illiterate he can't count either... Waghorn doesn't count

It's not much of a mind game/dig towards us, more of an excuse for why he's not won every game this season with clearly the best squad (and most expensive) in the league. "ohhh but Leicester are going to get another striker in January, we need to buy 17 new players by the weekend or we will never be able to compete "
Aus Fox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Can only be good for Vardy, Wood, Schluup and Waggy if we get him in as a player/coach a proven goal scorer across the divisions.

For a start, anyone else who may be interested in Phillips now knows that Leicester are after him and that he's probably going to sign for us if they don't move quick. Even if Redknapp has no interest in him himself it means that it could jeopardise our attempts to get him. Alternatively, the other way of looking at it is that it's a bit of a nod to Phillips that QPR want him ("we need more strikers... I think Phillips is going to Leicester" - i.e. "I need a new striker and I don't think I'll be able to get Phillips as he's going to Leicester... or is he?!... Ah, Kevin's agent, hello...") Either way, it's completely unneccesary for him to be talking about deals that other clubs are doing and smacks majorly of a lack of class and dignity. Pearson would never do the same to Redknapp.
rico Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 According to my mate K Phillips was saying on Talksport that he still lives in the Midlands and is looking for a club closer to home
sylofox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 According to my mate K Phillips was saying on Talksport that he still lives in the Midlands and is looking for a club closer to home Correct thats why he quit palace. Or at least his reason for doing so.
KFS Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 You can just see it now: Stringer- "It's the 90th minute here just incase you're tuning into a Radio Leicester and the foxes find themselves searching for a goal to send them up as champions against Doncaster! Leicester are about to bring Kevin Phillips on, Al, what'd you think to that?" Young- "Well, he hasunt impressed me at all this season, Eeyan. I think we'll see this end in a drawuh" *2 minutes elapse of four added time, Drinkwater robs Ritchie Wellens after the former fox dwells on the ball (some May say he's slowing the game down)* Stringer- "Here comes Drinkwater now, he's slipped in Taylor- Fletcher...Across for Kevin Phillips... ITS THEREEEEEEEEEE"
