Mahrez - Arsenal

Recommended Posts

Would anyone expect a different kind of quote from any player?

If you're a PL footballer, you either don't answer these questions or you don't answer them directly, just like Mahrez did.

So much can change, and so quickly when it comes to transfers. So why would any footballer make a hard comment either way?

MAH-RAISE Riyad Mahrez latest: Leicester slap £30m asking price on Arsenal and Manchester United target – if he turns down bumper £100,000-a-week deal to stay at King Power

Foxes will put steep tag on Algerian if he decides new pay packet is not enough reason to stay

LEICESTER CITY will slap a £30 million price tag on Riyad Mahrez if he turns down a new £100,000-a-week Foxes deal.
Mahrez has admitted he does not know if he will stay with the Premier League Champions this summer.

But Leicester have offered the Algerian a £5.2million a year pay packet to keep him out of the clutches of rival clubs.
Arsenal and Manchester United are both keen on wide man Mahrez who was the PFA Player of the Year after playing a key role in the Foxes’ title success.
Barcelona are also long-time admirers.
But unlike Jamie Vardy, Mahrez is not believed to have a release clause in his contract that would be triggered if a club swooped for him.
That means Leicester would value Mahrez, 25, at around £30million – after snapping him up for just £400,000 from Le Havre two and a half years ago.

£30m.... Be quiet

Hazard is six weeks older than Mahrez.

When he was 2015 PFA POTY he was quoted at £70-£80m.

Mahrez gets 2016 PFA POTY with more assists and more goals and gets a £30m price tag.

That's not enough to buy Otamendi, Mangala, Sterling or Fernandinho from Man City or the centre half Man Utd bought from Villarreal who has about 40 professional games under his belt.

City also spent around 20M+ on Gundogan who is injured and wont play till September.

30m will be the starting point to get the bidding war going not the price they will sell at, it will be disappointing if he goes for less than Sterling and doesn't have huge back end clauses like Martial.  If he signs a new contract then they will slap an even higher price on him.

Going forward the club need to be more ruthless with their transfer fees.  If they continue taking chances on players the big teams wont take a risk on (Kante), giving youngsters the chance (Grey) finding lower league gems (Mahrez/Vardy) and improving players others let go (Drinkwater/Albrighton/Schmeichel) then they need to be rewarded greatly if the 'bigger' clubs come in for them.

Hopefully Rudkin can get some advice on selling big players not just getting them in for the least amount.

Yeah but we're just that cheap team of rejects that got lucky to win the premier league so £30m is like a figure our club have never seen in their bank balance lol

For a paper to quote £30m for a player who is a premier league winner, full international and just won PFA POTY is pretty insulting imho

Personally I would put him within the £60m-£70m bracket especially as he still has some of his best years in front of him

Looks encouraging???? Are you for real

I read it as encouraging too. Along with splinterdream's point which is quite possible.

Mahrez does have family aspects to consider and Mahrez/Vardy have made a wonderfully effective playing partnership together which would also be quite an important consideration as I know from my own playing and management days.

The massive bond within the team is also important, not out of sentimentality but in respect of all the things they've achieved together and might not achieve in isolation.

There's one more point with the film and book unfolding. If the team breaks up. any achievements wouldn't be part of the same saga and anything won at the likes of Arsenal, PSG or any other big club would be just another footnote in football history.

But if supposedly "little" Leicester City could climb still more mountains together and conquer summits which would lead to a film and book sequel, would any of our current players seriously want to miss out?
