ealingfox Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Similar situation to Shackell last summer - he sulked through pre-season training after numerous Derby bids were turned down and even feigned injury to avoid playing in pre-season friendlies. He got his move a week or so before the season started but Derby had to pay more than TWICE their original bid - £3.5 million for a 32-year-old with only one year left on his contract. It turned out perfectly for Burnley - we bought Shackell from Derby for £1.1 million, had three great years out of him (including promotion) and sold him back for THREE times what we paid the Rams for him. To make it even sweeter, Burnley got promoted again while Derby "bottled" it for a third year in a row. On top of that, Shackell scored an own goal and gave away a daft penalty as Burnley beat Derby 4-1 at Turf Moor. Mate we don't give a stuff about Jason Shackell or Burnley.
Gerard Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Next summer you'll be back in the championship, Keane will be in his last year and we'll get him for a fraction of the price. I'll wait. Exactly. Two years left on the contract I consider the pivot point when the balance is equal between the player and the club. If Keane doesn't get his move this summer the advantage slowly swings towards the player. I'm quite happy to leave this but sow the seeds, it's not like Keane would necessarily be an automatic starter for us. Let him develop another year and bid again next season, he knows he's wanted here which will give us an advantage over clubs who may be in for him because he's cheap next season. If he get's a mardy on like the Burnley fan says then he might not be that great for them and become a negative in their team and we'll get him cut price in the next 6-12 months. Sow the seeds but walk away is the best strategy methinks.
JJS84 Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Have Burnley signed anyone yet? Robson Kanu I think, I read somewhere
Soar Fox Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Tbf I would get quite mardy if I was sat on the bench whilst Michael Duff is playing ahead of me. There's a bit of a difference getting the hump sat on the bench for Burnely and sat on the premier league champions bench when they are playing in the champions league.
Guest Lcfc82 Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Have Burnley signed anyone yet? I read somewhere they had signed one of the Iceland squad, who had been playing for charlton
Fox 4 Life Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 I read somewhere they had signed one of the Iceland squad, who had been playing for Charlton Really shooting for the stars with these signings!
mozartfox Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Do not knock them. they are already preparing for life back in the Championship in 2017/2018.
Babylon Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 I think they need to make a statement of intent, even if it means overpaying. With what happened last time they were up, people will be very wary. We all know how difficult it can be to get people in the first year or so, even without that stain on your record.
foxes21 Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 why is this burnley fan telling us about burnley, jason shackell and beating derby 4-1? do any of us care? its not like we don't know who michael keane is & need expert opinions, all this burnley talk is unbearable, before you know it he'll bring up pound notes and being the market leaders

Who gives a shite (on an LCFC forum) about Burnley and Jason Shackell? They'll bounce straight back down anyway.
Out Foxed Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 i perish the thought of us spending more than 10 mll on Michael Keane.

s11nny Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 i perish the thought of us spending more than 10 mll on Michael Keane. Whilst boro are trying to sign subotic off Dortmund for £8mil. Proven Budesliga player with international and champions league experience and still only 27. This makes me sad
Dames Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 This stinks of Walsh but the man is rarely wrong so it would be foolish not to trust him. Though personally I would see how he fairs in the Prem with Burnley until January to see if he's up to this level or not.
foxes21 Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 If he signs for us, you just know he's going to turn out great for us. Maybe not this year, maybe the next. But you just know it will happen, because its a Walsh signing. Walsh >>>>>
lancyclaret Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Next summer you'll be back in the championship, Keane will be in his last year and we'll get him for a fraction of the price. I'll wait. Maybe we will be back in the Championship, but you won't be able to offer Keane Champions League football in 2017/18.......I'd put my mortgage on it. Then he will go to a more glamorous club with a rich tradition and successful history like Everton.

You'd have put your mortgage on it last year as well no doubt and if you did you'd be sleeping in the attic in your Mam's house.
Max Power Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Wait until Jan when he's got six months fewer on his contract and Burnley are bottom of the league. Or just sign someone else.

We coul have that spud fan barsted fvcking up another thread talking spuds shite. Least the Burnley fan is talking Burnley in a related thread.
Jimbo Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 I don't like the thought of spending that much money on one player, with little to no experience but I try to settle my fears of this potentially happening in the following way When we bought Mahrez we were unknown and could pay what both clubs thought the player was worth, they weren't going to hold us to ransom but they didn't know who we were, what we were about and how much money we had When we bought Kante, they knew we we're premier league, They inflated the price a little and we paid what we were prepared to pay. Now we're after Keane they know we're premier league champions, they know we're champions league and know we're rolling in money! They'll get what they can for him. He's worth half of what the reported bids are at most. But add to that the fact that we're in the champions league, he's young and English we'll get held to ransom for him. You can look at the Subotic deal, but you can't compare. Yes he has experience but he doesn't have potential. I trust the scouts to get it right, our biggest strength is the way we play as a group, individual talent comes 2nd to that. If Keane fits the profile, then go ahead.
Soar Fox Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Maybe we will be back in the Championship, but you won't be able to offer Keane Champions League football in 2017/18.......I'd put my mortgage on it. Then he will go to a more glamorous club with a rich tradition and successful history like Everton. Let's be honest Burnley will finish bottom of the league with about 19 points, they'll have conceded the most goals, kept the least clean sheets and Michael Keane will be in his last year of his contract. I very much doubt clubs like Leicester and Everton would even look at him again. He'll go to a newly promoted club like Blackburn for £4 million and Gravel throat Dyche will be complaining about not being able to offer many pound notes.
Heymister2015 Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 £15m for a player the same build and tidy on the ball like John stones who's being touted around for £50m ! I'm not sure what you'd expect to pay for a potential England international that could potentially worth double the amount we'd be paying. Think it's a risk worth taking in today's market
4everfox Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 You'll have to sign Keane while you are still in the Champions League - January or next summer might be too late. Yeah but we are going to be in the Champions League for the next decade or so. Be it January, next summer or the summer after that we can poach any player from clubs like Burnley at will, even without the Champions League.
