Arsenal Pre-Match Thread

Recommended Posts

Stat time

  • Leicester are on a 19 game winless run against Arsenal in the Premier League (D6 L13) and lost both games last season.
  • Arsenal have never lost an away Premier League game at the King Power Stadium, drawing two and winning 5-2 there last season.
  • Two of Leicester's three Premier League defeats in 2015/16 were against the Gunners, including their only home defeat.
  • Arsenal have scored four Premier League hat-tricks against Leicester (Dennis Bergkamp, Nicolas Anelka, Thierry Henry and Alexis Sanchez), the joint-most against one opponent in Premier League history (Manchester United vs Newcastle also on four).
  • Leicester's 19-game winless run is the joint-longest active run in the Premier League along with Newcastle United against Manchester City.
  • Simon Royce is the only Leicester goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against the Gunners in the Premier League, doing so in a goalless draw in January 2001.
  • Leicester City and Arsenal, who finished 1st and 2nd last season, both lost their opening matches. The last time the top two from the previous season in the English top-flight both lost on opening day was in 1953/54.
  • Arsenal haven't lost their opening two league games since the inaugural Premier League season in 1992/93.
  • The last time the reigning top flight champions lost their first two league games was in 1981-82 (Aston Villa).
  • Alexis Sanchez has scored four goals in his two previous league games at the King Power Stadium with the Gunners.

Realistically we can't drop Vardy - so he'll probably start alongside Okazaki up front.

Thought Hernandez played reasonably well actually, but Huth will surely come back to play alongside Morgan (who was also not great at Hull but again can't be dropped).

Ditto for Mahrez really - who will surely start on the right wing.

On the left wing, I can't see Gray starting...so it'll probably be a return for Alrighton. Can maybe see him starting Musa on the left wing actually, although not sure it will work....

Subs: Zieler, Hernandez, Schlupp, King, Gray, Ulloa, Musa

This is the right place to start - Musa can replace albrighton only when he agrees to pull the trigger and stop looking to pass

Yeah let's just drop one of the only players who actually looked positive for us

Huth has to come in after that last game. I know it's early on, but I'm not convinced with Hernandez at the back. Also Okazaki for to start for Musa. We need his energy and legs to keep the Arsenal defence on their toes.

Ranieri will 100% put Huth back in the team. Hernandez had a rocky debut, but I think he will do well for us with time. I don't think him and Wes played enough together in preseason really and Wes seemed to be a bit off the pace like everyone else.

Following the Emirates farce this is going to be very tasty, keeping 11 on the pitch will be key, the referee appointment crucial. We were bossing that game until the half time "visit" albeit with an outstanding Kante. I expect us to be less naive and gung ho than the last time we played them at home and can see a 1-1 depending on how the ref deals with Sanchez's antics. Ramseys token injury takes him out of the equation but Coquelin in a red card waiting to happen. Yet again (like many others including ourselves) Wenger has failed to prepare a squad to be ready to go on day one of the season, they're there for the taking but we'll need to get our own game together quickly to take advantage.
