To leave him on the bench as a statement to say your career here at LCFC is finished?

Looks like it and he's always played decently for us. Kaputska must be thinking why he came here.

I still don't understand why Amartey came on instead of Benny

Hasn't Benny just come back from injury, probably hoping to give him a run out for fitness, either when the game is won or lost. Couldn't really do that when down to 10 men.

Really frustrating game from the moment the first Chelsea goal went in.  Should have seen it out til half time and we were cruising, instead shocking defending all over the pitch has cost us.

Still undefeated at home this year as it was 2-2 in normal time. This extra time is not applicable in my world lol

Well, goals change matches and just like we nicked one against Burnley just before the break on Saturday which changed the game, Chelseas goal before the break today was massive. If we had hung on we would have won IMO.

Looking at our players who came in, I was happy with Zieler, especially one wonder save but quite a few one on one saves were impressive as he cut down the angles. Maybe he could have been more dominant for there 4th when he flapped a bit but Id side on the opinion that he played too well to have conceded 4 goals. He didnt deserve that.. Chilwell proved what we already know, has some skills but has a lot to learn. I personally would want him to be loaned out to continue his learning curve and keep Shlupp as back up at left back as he needs games to learn the position. I cant hammer the kid but he at times looked all over the place and hardly timed a tackle or even tried to tackle. Waso, we love him for being mad but he is always a sending off waiting to happen. Before that he was all over the place anyway and really the organisation we get with Huth and Fuchs helping out is massive. We all know why we were linked to Keane! Kingy, does what he does in midfield but IMO cant play in a 4. Needs to play further forward in a 451 but in a 4 with two widish mids and him needing to do the all round job in a central position I think is too much for him. He hasnt the legs or pace for it. Oka did his thing and Im glad he scored a couple of goals. Musa again needs a run but at times showed some glimpses of what he can do playing further forward but he needs the quality from midfield.

All in all, im relatively happy they couldn't beat us 11 v 11 in 90 mins and they had a couple more regulars in today than us although in fairness it was really both our B teams with a few first teamers sprinkled in. The sending off spoilt it as it meant Gray had to come off who was starting to tear them a new one down the right and Mahrez then couldnt come on as we had used all three subs which was another big shame. The only negative I would take from the game was that we seem to have given up when the sending off happened but once again in fairness, its probably because of few of them who havent had much game time gave their all for 90 mins and were too buggered come extra time?!

 hooray for balanced views.

Positives - Shinji brace, Drinkwater by far best midfielder on the pitch, Gray played well, Zieler made some top saves, Costa didn't score, no one injured and we were by no means embarrassed. Plus we didn't really need this cup...not this season.

Negatives - Poor first goal to give away, not enough depth in squad still (Drinkwater and Morgan surely need a rest)!! Chilwell looked ropey, Was was a walking disaster and King?? (What exactly does he do)?

First half we looked ok. They had a lot of possession but we seemed to have it under control. Two goals which I couldn't really celebrate like when the ball smacks the back of the net. Then in injury time we switched off, they had been looking for side show Bob at the near post all night, suddenly they send one to the back post and goal.

Second half they upped their game, we couldn't get the ball on the deck to use our pace. Good equaliser. I missed Was's first booking so was a little confused when he got sent off.

Hated to see Drinkwater, Morgan and Simpson play 120 minutes, would have been far happier with a full reserve side out there oh and Jeff is still Jeff.

Yes it hurts a bit as we were 2-0 up and then went tits up also I think it was tactically one of Claudio's poorest games if not the worst one but who needs some silly league cup anyway :P Let Chelski have it!

Champions League, men! Dilly ding dilly dong lol

I think what's important here is that everybody panics and a few call for a more clued up manager. It's the league cup ffs we'll be over it tomorrow.

All the people who've been saying Wasilewski is a red card waiting to happen for the last 3 years must feel like they've just gotten to the urinal having held in a piss since he signed.

We should have seen the game out better when we went 2-0 up.  Conceding just before half time was criminal and I was expecting a comeback after half time.  I'ts awfully difficult for fringe players to get up to the speed of a top flight game without having played.

A cup run would have been good to get these fringe players more game time.  I'm disappointinted we didn't see it through but pleased now we won't have the extra matches.

Not at all, he commits fouls he positions when we are not under any pressure... it isn't about being sent off, a quality player doesn't throw himself in when there is no danger

Maybe CR was in 2minds, regards first teamers, it could have have been a match fitness/sharpness thing after the piss poor pre season arrangement. Didn't we play something like 10 games before the campaign kicked off last time out? I don't know, but he'll have his reasons and HE won the PL for us ... I kinda trust the Don to know what he's doing or trying to achieve by his actions.

Example... Arsenal away last season!

Jeez some of you moaners do realise it was largely our B team right?!!! Perspective guys and gals!!!!!!

Only Morgan, Simpson and DD are first teamers who started tonight! Chelsea had Luiz, Matic, Cahill and Azpilicueta who started the game v Liverpool. Fabregas started for them early season and their LB Alonso was bought for big money to be their regular full back. On top of that we were 2-2 in 90 mins and then had a man sent off whilst they bought on Costa and Hazard when our lads were knackered!

No one likes to lose but we need to have some sense of perspective on this game.

Should never of played Morgan! Drinkwater! Simpson! Or bought on vardy! And that's not even in hindsight. Kaputska, Hernandez, benaloune's should of played tonight

Definitely hindsight. If we'd seen it out at 2-0 up no one would have complained.

No drama. No need to panic. Too much over analysing and pussy comments on here. We'll all have forgotten this result in a few weeks anyway. We've got bigger fish to fry so move on to the next game and "clear your minds" as the Don would say.

i dont know wtf was Clauidio thinking about when there are a lot games ahead

I will wait for Saturday and watch how fit  DD,Simpson and Morgan will be

not happy so far

Haven't read the match/post match threads, but really hope there isn't a meltdown on here.

For what its worth we did play well for most of the game, especially the first half when Chelsea didn't threaten us at all. However we began to tire which is to be expected this early in the season & the sending off didn't help.

Overall, I think there's more positives than negatives to be discussed. Shinji/Musa partnership looked decent, Drinkwater/King actually weren't shit when playing together, Simpson/Morgan get more match fitness, Chilwell/Gray gain more experience against a good side & Zieler looks comfortable.

Expected it that way, but to be fair to Claudio, dammed if he does, dammed if he doesn't.

If we didn't play them, and got hammered 5 or 6 nil, the thousands at the ground would have felt ripped off, going out without a fight.

The only disappointment, was it went to extra  time, that's it.

Claudio is payed to get results, he tried to rest as many as he could, and remain competitive, wether we agree or not, I won't argue with his team selection.

I agree.. Not overly bothered about losing and being out of the Tin Pot Cup.. But where is the thinking behind playing those three in this match?.. Don't get it?

Claudio got it massively wrong tonight and seems to have got it wrong a couple of times this season.

Still, wasn't bothered about this cup. We can now focus elsewhere
