So am I,  it's a difficult one. It's Forest I know, but on the other hand I'd really like him to do well for all sorts of reasons. One,  for what he did for us. Two because I'm sure that it would mean so much to him and I think he deserves it and three, because all these modern pundits just like to label certain people irrelevant nowdays and I'd like to see him shove it to them. 2 new signings for OHL.

 

On Wednesday, German central defender Sascha Kotysch (30) signed for 2 years. He played for Belgian side Sint-Truiden since July 2012 and was a big part of their team that won the 2nd division in the 2014/2015 season. Due to injury he missed this years preseason, which costed him his spot in the starting 11.

Yesterday we signed French striker Thomas Henry (24) who played for Tubize, the team we lost to last weekend. Thomas signed for Tubize in July after playing a couple of seasons in the French lower leagues. In 16 games he scored 11 goals for Tubize, including the 0-2 against us this weekend.

I think Pearson really was one of the key reasons we won the league. He put all the bricks in place and Ranieri had the perfect situation to manage.

 

Pearson created that, right from the beginning, and it was an incredible bit of management.

 

But football management is tough, and apart from Alex Ferguson, I don’t think there has been anyone in the last 20 years who could consistently manage change and create a first rate team.

 

If you look at MON, he was excellent for us, but his set up including Robertson and Walford was all part of it. MON was very clever in exiting clubs when he knew he couldn’t get anything more from them, he knew his limits within the environments he was at. Villa and Sunderland were prime examples of this. He took them as far as he could and saw the danger ahead and moved out. 

 

A former manager once told me that you can do anything upto 45 years old, then you start to change. Challenges you used to overcome become more difficult, and although I think the age is irrelevant, there does become a time where certain challenges become more difficult for everyone and some obstacles you end up walking away from.

 

I don’t think Pearson failed at Derby. I just think there was a power struggle with the board and he lost. 

 

However, the Gary Taylor Fletcher interview in The Fox was an incredible insight into Pearson. He said he changed when we got to the Premier League, he became more distant.

 

It was clear he found elements of his job much more challenging. He was under huge pressure and he found it difficult to cope.

 

I think Pearson maybe a spent force now. I think his achievements with us have been underplayed and maybe this is also had an affect on him.

 

But it’s a seriously hard job, it’s seriously difficult to succeed constantly and as much as I really liked his style, I think the overall pressure of the Leicester job, together with him not benefitting personally from the final outcome at Leicester, together with going to Derby and losing the battle with the Chairman, together with his age means to me that I don’t think we will see Pearson at a decent level again.

 

His days I think are well gone. His team of staff are long gone, they have aged and changed as well and I just don’t think he could ever go again at that intense level. 

 

I am not knocking him, I really do think he deserves more praise from Leicester that he got, but I really do understand how hard his job was, and I am not sure many people can constantly pull rabbits out of the hat at that level.

 

There is a reason he went to Belgium, I think it was for a rest and to see if he could start again without the pressure, but that hasn’t worked out well and I can’t see where he goes from here. Hope I am wrong.

Clough was nothing without Taylor

The trio of Pearson, Walsh and Shakey (strong management TEAM) was what worked

As it does in most sectors, and especially football.

Quite simply, Vardy is meant to be ‘a strong character in the dressing room’. I suggest even Vardy looked at those three and said ‘nah.. I ain’t taking them on’

Let's hope they have the same impact that Huth and Albrighton had on Leicester's Great Escape season.
