Foxxed Posted 16 July 2018 Posted 16 July 2018 Is he going to play any football here? I don't have massive expectations but couldn't we manage 90 minutes?
dylanlegend Posted 16 July 2018 Posted 16 July 2018 I think the only reason we signed this fella was because he looked like and is the same size as Kante. Honestly, why the **** did we sign him? 2
Ric Flair Posted 17 July 2018 Posted 17 July 2018 He's worked with Puel before, may even have been his captain at Nice so if there's one last chance for Mendy here it's now. I can't imagine he'd want to stay for anyone else and may even want out still, but he's had a doggo stint back at Nice last year and his stock has fallen considerably.
adamkhalifa Posted 17 July 2018 Posted 17 July 2018 I think he will get a few opportunities to prove his worth. His range of passes and style of play may fit in well with Puel system.

His off the ball screening of the defensive areas was underrated. We were desperate for him to be Kante when in reality he's just a decent passer who defends well and does the simple things. If he wants to stay, Puel wants him and we offload a few others then welcome back Papy. 1

lgfualol Posted 17 July 2018 Posted 17 July 2018 (edited) That 4 year new contract for Matty James was the dumbest thing the club has ever done. Regarding Mendy, I would like him to get another shot. Iborra, Ndidi, Mendy, Silva and Choudhury are good options. This is ofc if he is happy staying, I feel like he is a forgotten member of the team. The media department never bother getting players like Mendy involved, it's always boring interviews with Albrighton, Simpson, Gray, etc. Edited 17 July 2018 by lgfualol

Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 17 July 2018 Posted 17 July 2018 What happened last season in France? Did he play at all and if not why?
Rusko187 Posted 17 July 2018 Posted 17 July 2018 He'll probably end up being amazing next season and people be queuing to give him a reach around! 1

Probs not best to put him in an awkward position to discuss the coming season when it's likely either he already knows he's going, or isn't sure yet.

Also a lot of that might be down to the fact that the 2016 signings were by and large a disaster. Mendy in particular has been almost invisible since he joined us. Imagine the reaction on social media if he was playing it for laughs on a Leicester affiliated page. He'd be destroyed by fans most likely. Edited 17 July 2018 by Blue ROI

This is ofc if he is happy staying, I feel like he is a forgotten member of the team. The media department never bother getting players like Mendy involved, it's always boring interviews with Albrighton, Simpson, Gray, etc. It really wasn't. This is one of those foxestalk myths that if enough people say it again and again it becomes fact. he had proved his fitness as played 20+ full games Tuesday, Saturday consecutively for Barnsley on loan the end of the previous season and he'd been our stand out performer in pre season. There was genuine interest from Derby and WBA, he had less than a year on his deal. The club had two choices sell him on the cheap or give him a new deal. Seeing as the club knew Danny Drinkwater wanted out and Shakespeare rated Matty from previous seasons and didn't rate Mendy or Ammartey it was a no brainer to give him a new deal. I don't know the details but I'd imagine James contract cost the club around 6 million. I doubt 6 million would have even got us half the transfer fee of an adequate replacement never mind pay his wages for 4 years. The new contract was a sensible business decision. All football transfers and new contracts carry an element of risk and Obviously with hindsight considering his new injuries it was a possibly a mistake but he could still easily regain fitness, go on loan for 6 months then sell him and the club would easily recoup the 6 millon layed out. Or he could be knackered and it's 6 million down the drain (minus the games he played last season) but I'm sure the club and the owners aren't losing any sleep about losing that on a educated gamble and neither should you. Sol thewall Bamba Posted 17 July 2018 Posted 17 July 2018 Pretty sure I've said this already in this thread, but him coning back is like a free hit at a new signing. If he's good then happy days but if not move him on and make a bit of cash.
