Some people in the match thread were more embarrassing than Amartey's error. Honestly, some people on here are shockingly embarrassing.

A very good performance overall:

 

- Moved the ball quicker

- Maddison with a very promising first game

- Impressed with Ricardo. Technically, a good player

- Amartey should not have played. If Ricardo is in the team, choose a solid defender behind him - Simpson

- Silva looked busy, but too many misplaced passes

- Chilwell good going forward, but crossing poor

- Vardy sharp

- Nacho is a better player than last season

- Gray, probably his best performance for us

We played really really well. Lads can be proud. Poor showing from Wes in parts but on the whole we were massively the better team. 

 

Completely undeserved that loss. Got a lot to look forward to this season if we are gonna play like that. 

 

Maddison should never ever have been taken off. What a player we have.

As usual though, make two individual errors and expect to be punished.

Play like that every week I think we will have a good season just need to create a little more but first game of the season and looked good. Hope one of the new cbs are gonna come in for Morgan. Madders and vardy together on Saturday get a few goals.

Looked decent. Think some were being harsh in the match thread. We dominated possession at old Trafford. It's not like we lost at home to Huddersfield. If it wasn't for amartey we would of got a good point.  Amartey and Morgan the weak links and hopefully they won't feature much this season.

Lots of positives to take from that game, 

 

However I don't understand why we kept crossing into the box with no one with any aireal threat. Just gives a team like utd what they play for, allowing us to move forward the capitalise on our mistake and then move forward

Have to say I really enjoyed watching that so much to be positive about this young team looked very good in spells. Work to do but have  good footballers now.

Much better at pressing forward, and created some good chances. Gutted we didn't get to see Maddison and Vardy linking up. I am going to give Puel the benefit of the doubt and assume they wanted to get him off a bit earlier because of that knock he had in preseason. 

 

Rachid is slow isn't he! However I did feel he got stuck in there straight away, and put in a couple of really decent crosses. 

 

Harry didn't look quite himself, but definitely the right decision to play him as better than the alternatives.

One good save. The first one looked a lot better than it was. Nice height on his good side. Schmeichel’s was better

Don't really care about the result, it's the way we conceded these two goals that does my head in more than anything. Clearly we weren't up to full speed when the game started, and by that I don't mean Amartey only.

 

Then dominated most of the first half with some of the best short passing football I've seen us put together in months, if not years.

 

Once Maddison came off, we lost a bit of that spice and creativity.

Pereira did well on the wing, too shaky still as a right-back.

Ghezzal stiff on the hips and extremely one-footed, always needs an extra turn before he can put himself into a dangerous position.

Iheanacho unlucky, but Bailly's just one of the fastest centre-backs in the league. I almost forgot we had Vardy on until he scored.

 

On the whole, I consider this a game that has given us some indication as to which direction we're headed under Puel.

Play like that against Wolves and we'll be fine.

 

Oh, and some of these Manchester United players are a disgrace to football, above all Paul Pogba. Unfit, moaning git outmuscled on almost every single occasion.

Carragher had it right in the fact that Utd never looked troubled and we never really looked like scoring. As nice as it is to see us play some pretty football, we looked a bit toothless and ultimately you don't win games just playing nice football 30 yards out. Now today that's as much a reflection of Man Utd as us - at home, under Mourinho they are always going to look solid and be tough to break down even if he wants more defenders. We'll see how we do against the lesser sides. It's encouraging to see us playing with such confidence, there's a lot of potential in this side and we can have a good season. It's a building process for us.

A very encouraging display. In my opinion if we play like that against sides outside of the top 6 we will win more times than not. 

 

The two weak links for me were Morgan and Amartey (Amartey particularly), but we probably knew that would be the case. 

 

Maddison looks a cracking buy, as does Ricardo. 

 

To go to old Trafford and play with such control is a credit to the team, I’m as pleased as you can be with a defeat.
