The "do they mean us?" thread pt 2

From a BBC article:

'A moment I will never forget'

Alistair Mann: I will never forget 27 October 2018 - it was a day I went to commentate on Leicester City v West Ham but which ended with me reporting on a tragic news story for Match of the Day.

There are so many aspects to that awful day which will forever live with me but what I recall most vividly is walking past three people in the tunnel after I had conducted my post-match interviews, at whom I smiled as I walked towards the pitch, before moving past the ill-fated aircraft, which was parked on the centre circle.

As the information began to emerge about the crash over the next few days and the identities of those who lost their lives were revealed, it became clear that the three I had acknowledged were Kaveporn Punpare, Izabela Roza Lechowicz and Eric Swaffer - three of those who so tragically perished that evening. It still causes a shiver through my body.

My thoughts and prayers will always be with all the families of those who lost their loved ones that terrible day and I hope 2019 will begin to repair their broken hearts.

Would be nice if teams would roll over for us and play their heart out against Liverpool though.

**** Liverpool.

A quick look at RAWK earlier on shows they are grateful to Benitez for looking at the fixture yesterday, concluding it was a no hoper for his team & resting his big players. They hope other teams do the same. I see what you mean but I’d prefer to do it the hard way personally - rather than know we only won it because other clubs bent over for us because they didn’t want another team to win it. That, & the fact that they were all juiced, will always dirty the Leicester “fairytale”. Teams literally falling over their own feet to gift them points.
Having said that, a league title is a league title & beggars can’t be choosers.
So it’s a dilemma for sure

:D

They should drop the ‘fighting’ bit ..... ‘the cock’ would sum them up much better ........

They mentioned our title win in previewing the game on Five Live, saying we didn't have the weight of expectation on us that Liverpool have.

Now that is true but I think people are underplaying how much we wanted to win it. If we'd finished second we'd have been gutted despite the season being amazing and unexpected. It was our chance and to have lost it from the lead we had would've been our biggest regret.

Nobody remembers the unexpected title challengers who fell short.

Conversely, teams who were never even IN a title race get aggrandised even more for finishing second. Well, third.

Thank **** we're in neither category.

For sure, but the scousers are desperate for it. I'd argue that when they had Rogers in charge and Suarez on fire they bottled it because of the fans. They were so desperate to win that the anticipation and excitement got into such a frenzy that it was too much to take. Similar in so many ways to England at both the 1990 and 2018 World Cups. In the game against Chelsea, all of the ex Liverpool fans and players were there almost as if it was the title parade game itself and I think it made them capitulate.

We would obviously have regretted it if we failed to win it. I think many of us after beating Man City all said that to lose the title after that incredible performance and result would be cruel! But at the same time, compared to the previous 12 months it was a lot less stressful I thought. Especially as in some of our tougher games, like Swansea without Vardy just blowing them away in the first 20 minutes, or even against Arsenal when we lost we played so well you knew we had a good chance still. It's definitely testament to the players we have because none of them tensed up and they kept their cool fantastically well. But I do think that for players like Albrighton, Simpson, Fuchs, Huth, Morgan etc that they probably really enjoyed it. Everything was a bonus, they weren't having to fight for their lives and though they obviously wanted to win like nothing else, it was a positive kind of pressure like going on a first date rather than having to pass your A-Levels to get into university type of pressure!

I think any team at the top of the table who have not won it recently will experience the same expectation and pressure to stay there, to keep going week after week grinding out wins takes some doing Spurs tried there hardest and we still didn't collapse even going to Spurs and beating them in there own back yard was true grit, we more than deserved the title they wasn't good enough simple as that.

After their nonsense over 3 seasons..this .their forum should be known hereafter as the "Bottlingcock"....

Shame really, (hold on let me get my tin helmet)....I like spurs, and their other forums...but the odd time I wonder over to read Fightingcock,it's  full

of "Nobodies" posts!!!      My friends who are Spurs fans, are a good bunch, and don't go on that site, but mention our foxestalk has lost a lot of its wit..

Though they have better finances than us...they are still not top 5,so if they upset the financial odds and lifted the title,I'd close my eyes n ears, and

Say Well done!!! They play good football, and are entertaining, with or without bottles..

Eh the bigger difference is we had players with strong mentalities and in Schmeichel-Morgan-Drinkwater-Vardy we had the same spine that won the championship 2 years earlier - players who knew how to play under pressure and how to deal with leading in a title race. You look at the Liverpool team and who has that? Milner from his time with Man City and maybe Van Dijk, although did Celtic face any actual competition during his time there?

L'pool players have played a couple of years in CL/Europe. Their all round quality is higher than Spurs, but  to be fair both have played in high pressure games..

I see where your coming from...but strong mentalities for title contenders/future winners have no tradition, time will prove it they are mentally up for it.

part of the enjoyment and entertainment, is watching and taking in all the angles and needs and how it plays out in front of us...

My dad kept banging on about this when it got to February.Even though it was a lower league the experience would have been invaluable.

Says results haven’t been good, so presume it’s some other club as ours have been decent you’d argue.

The article says this happened pre-Christmas... when our form was a bit rubbish

...but it also says that the manager had drinks with the players after the game, so yeah, probably not us. Imagine Puel knocking back a few beers with the lads lol

I think Claudio played the media and the players perfectly too. It was the most perfect and beautiful storm.

And it will take the spuds a long time to get over the fact that it was (in their tiny deluded minds) their best opportunity to win the league to win anything, for a very long time (ironically since they beat us in the League Cup). Let them imagine that teams rolled over for us (if it can help them stop being so bitter). We all know that's bullshit.

It would explain the remarkable improvement in our performance over Christmas that the Spud implied we are party to. :P

We beat them just like we beat the others? Did they roll over or were we just better? We all know the answer.

We weren’t going to let them take it from us, never mind teams lower down the table!
