How do you feel about the transfer window?

We moved on Benalouane and Iborra permanently, and loaned out Silva and King as well, presumably with an eye on getting rid permanently, so we have taken serious steps to cut the wage bill and deadwood.

We also loaned out a couple of youth prospects, and brought back Barnes from loan.

Finally, we have attempted to adress arguably our biggest problem, midfield creativity, with the exciting loan signing of a belgian wonderkid who featured in the world cup.

Was this window a success for you? Did you want to see more proactivity regarding our "striker problem", do you feel that we should have sent out more players on loan? Has the club wisely waited until the summer or shown a lack of ambition? I'm interested to canvas your views.

Needed something different midfield/attacking midfield and Barnes and Youri coming in does that nicely I think - without spending, which is good for the summer

Got rid of a few as you say, good.

The striker thing could be seen as a negative, but we have 3 strikers with no heavy schedule, so its not really an issue.  Plus, the next striker we buy needs to be a keeper.  Someone who can come in and play.  Such a key transfer is best left to the summer

I'm happy, got what we needed done to make the rest of the season interesting and hopefully have improved areas we have been struggling in

Absolutely a success.

Not much we could have done about the striker situation without spending shedloads because of the January tax. Che Adams would have been brilliant but with Birmingham's situation it was unlikely, and Charlie Austin was another option but the fee was a bit too steep.

Would have liked to get some of the business done sooner, but these things often require a domino effect to kick them off so it may have been out of our control.

What I especially like is that since Puel arrived, almost all our incomings have addressed key issues with our squad - we're no longer signing players for the sake of it. We had an issue with lack of creativity/firepower so brought Barnes back, and our midfield was disconnected from our forward line so we've brought in YT.

absolutely brilliant. quality over quantity, and we have signed a superb quality player.

Way better than I thought, bringing back Barnes was a surprise but really pleased we did it as he needs this 2nd half of the season to get used to the PL and the way we play. The Tielemans loan is ridiculous, I can't believe we've got him. Fans can moan it's short term and we've little to play for now but it's a massive coup to get him and he may still come here permanently which would be the marquee signing we have lacked. We moved on some deadwood, got a loan for Silva who will be under a manager who wants him and perhaps we can recoup a chunk of what we paid for him then in the summer.

All in all, happy.

That's a very good one. Trimmed the squad further down, brought back Barnes and a potential coup in Tielemans.

Puel in for life.

Edit: Bringing in a good striker in January for a reasonable price is nigh on impossible. Don't see how much more we could've done.

A good start in reducing the pile of deadwood.   With the contract terminations in the summer (Shinji/Simmo/Wes and Fuchs), we should be in a good position to start the over-haul.   This window has been a success.

I'm generally pleased though I would have liked a bit more permanancy to things. Short term we have looked to have done well but come the end of June we could see Slimani, Silva and King all back, Tielemans back at Monaco and a number of out of contract players. Which will mean a very big and potentially dificult summer.

Pleased a couple of the young lads have gone out on loan. Need to see if they can step up a level.

Very happy.

We’ve signed a highly rated youngster on loan to bolster our midfield, and brought Harvey Barnes back.

We’ve also sold Iborra and recouped most of the fee, got rid of Benalouane, and given loan moves to a bunch of players who are nowhere near the squad - King & Silva - and secured loans for some of our promising youngsters - Diabate, Knight, Johnson, Elder.

As I said in the Long Term Strategy Thread, Puel has a hugely important job in upgrading the squad, with a bit of financial restriction, and for me he’s doing a very good job of that so far.

Would've liked a striker but two players out (for £9 million) who weren't really playing and an exciting prospect in seems decent business.

8/10 from me

Micky Adams coming in would make it a 9

Add Messi and Neymar on free transfers and it's a 10

You must really hate Puel?

Definitely a success fair play. We've done well to shift some of the deadwood and probably saved a reasonable amount in wages.

I'd be happier if there was some noise about the prospect of keeping Tielmans, an agreed fee and pre contract agreement if the club are happy with him basically.

But you can't have everything. I was expecting nothing tbh so it's a bonus.

Got rid of Iborra for great money and the dead weight that was Benalouane.

Silva and King out on loan who were largely irrelevant to the squad so that's some big wages off the bill and a chance to put them in the shop window for a sale in the summer.

Tielemans is a top notch loan signing and hopefully he'll be outstanding in training, perform well for us but not too well and we might have a squeak at signing him in the summer. It will be good to have another MF who can create and might give us a few thoughts for the summer.

Very happy - hopefully both Silva (for Monaco) and Tielemans will be successes, then we can look at signing  Tielemans permanently along with a striker in the summer. Also good to get Barnes back, clearing deadwood, giving youth game time via loans, and freeing up wages/funds for future transfers so all in all good work during the window.

Quite happy.

We've got too much dead wood in our squad. Whoever is here in summer needs to carry on with this.

Get rid of the likes of James and Okazaki and bed in some real talent.
