Jaspa Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 Too many places leading with 'bid accepted' for it not to have something in it, should be a Percy tweet or something of the like imminent if true. Think it's actually been done for a little while. We just spent £80m which just do happens to be around Harry's price tag. Don't get Dunk, he's good enough in the air but average in most other departments, though I've disliked him since the Beckford red against Brighton years ago. Ake or Lacselles please

We cannot go wasting 40M on Dunk, we have more than enough cover and certainly better than Dunk. Lets be realistic, if Soyuncu was going to be the fix we would have seen more of him last season. He had a fairly decent game against Huddersfield and wasn’t seen again. He was fully fit, If BR trusted him we would have seen him feauture again. Puel also didn’t deem him good enough and he was clearly 4th choice in that department. Benkovic, while untried had a great loan at Celtic, rave reviews, motm most weeks but a consistent injury flare up. Something he’s still actively carrying. We would be crazy to rely on him at this point and we have no idea if he can make the step up and if he can, is he going to last the season. Which leads us to the inevitable situation of us playing Wes Morgan at 35 as a first choice. Im not arguing we should give them a chance, but competition is healthy. As I said before, if they are good enough they will break into the squad either way. I just don’t understand why our fans would prefer to gamble on such an important season for our club.
RowlattsFox Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 £80m seems a bargain when you have to pay £45m for Dunk
David Hankey Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 Looks as though we'll have to pluck someone else out of obscurity and bring them on. Disappointed with Maguire given the changes in playing personnel and manager I'd thought he'd stay another season.

They might be in dog much state at the moment, but they’re still Utd. Personally I hope they finish 8th or worse. Very possible. If it is £45 million for Dunk then we’ve been done. Better options around for that money. Poor in my opinion, but I’ll get behind the lad if he comes to us.
La-li-lu-le-lo Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 Dunk is a quality center back in my opinion he’s a better defender than Maguire, May not be a better ball playing defender, but I’d be more than happy with £80mill in the bank for slab head and Dunk in for £45 mill.

mazarron fox Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 Of all the great players over the years this mans leaving is treated a bit with contempt. Yes he’s a good player but 80 m wtf we have had their pants down. Is there any Leicester fan who can honestly say they would sooner Maguire stay andus not have Tielemans for half the price? OGS Is first manager to be sacked and Harry h is about to sign his very lucrative but very football damaging contract ! Bye Harry we will be ok Brendan knows this
Lcfc-1992 Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 Quality business this is. Get a replacement in for half the price and go big on a winger then finish above Man U. Lovely!
Bats8711 Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 The shine of getting 80 for Maguire immediately loses its luster if we’ve really spent 40-45 on dunk. With hulls sell on fee and deducting what we paid for him that means what - dunk + 10m for Maguire? Not that great...
Mendi Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 Sad to see him go if its true. 45 Million for Duck madness.

People say £80m is a good deal, i'm not so sure, regardless whether he's worth £80m or not, regardless of if we've had Man Utd's pants down or not.

They are in for a rude awakening when they partner him up with someone not experienced... just like when he’s partnered with anyone other than Evans. Handy having a R/B who can pick up the pieces.

dorsetboy Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 if he goes he goes but its the after effects that are the worry ? brighton or any other club will now have our pants down for another cb are we being seen as a selling club once a player reaches his peak ? what kind of message does this send to benkovic and soyenchu should we bring in someone else ! will they mooch about moaning and cause unrest within , will they decide to leave also and we have our pants pulled down again to replace them , we should have negotiated with utd for baiily as part of the deal as i feel his injury only let him down and hes quality , id prefer to go the route of play benkovic or soyenchu with the other and wes as back up and promote elliot moore to 3rd back up
Pete from the USA Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 Maybe ManU are willing to pay £80m for Maguire just because he's not an asshole. There are serious toxic problems in the dressing room there. They may need Maguire as much because he is a nice guy with class as for his defending.
jeffschlupp Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 Everyone keeps talking about getting into the top 6, but then are prepared to rely on either an injury prone CB who has only played in Croatia and Scotland, or a mistake-prone player who had one good season in the Bundesliga for Freiburg. For me, we partner Evans with a quality first choice, keep one of Benkovic or Soyuncu as first cover (loan out the other), and have Morgan as 4th choice. Whichever one goes out on loan hopefully has a good year, and then we can look at phasing Evans out of the first team next season. To trust in Benkovic or Soyuncu with Evans would to me say we aren't as ambitious as everyone thinks we are.
Poznan34 Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 Applying a little critical thinking. Who has written the Sun article? Damian Burchardt Who's he? Anyone heard of him? Respected Journo? No, some kid with 92 followers on Twitter: https://twitter.com/d_burchardt Recent history has shown that if it's from the Sun and not Alan Nixon, it's likely not true.

Spudulike Posted 14 July 2019 Posted 14 July 2019 It beggars belief why we spent about £30m on these two centre backs if we have no intention of using them.
