Maguire to Man Utd / Man City

Man City don't have many options at centre half. Laporte, Stones and Otamendi who may also be off. Its evident De Ligt or whoever they sign will be first choice otherwise they are weaker as a result.

Kompany had a long run back end of the season - he played 17 games total in the PL.

last season he played 17 PL games too

so whilst Man City have played 76 fixtures and accumulated 198 points, Kompany has only played 34 of these.  They need to strengthen (although Garcia looked good when he featured in the cups this season).  i guess they could go for maguire but I think pep will look to find someone with more pace as they won’t want to expose themselves to the ball in behind which is a problem for a side that has so much possession and play so high up the pitch

Can't see it being Maguire, it'll be a mega star like De Ligt or Varane.

Hope they make Harry Captain and keep him here for at least another season, Europe or maybe a nice Cup win could be within our grasp if we can hold this team together...

he came here with that intention but seems to have dropped off the agenda (no idea which side the drop off in intention came from )

20 pages in. Any actual evidence of any substantial interest? asking for a friend

An "ITK" mod on the ManU subreddit posted a supposed account of a transfer committee conference call.  Koulibaly said to be their only target at CB (contradicting press reports of Maguire and/or de Ligt).  No LCFC player was mentioned.

(He went on to say Pogba and de Gea are hoped to stay; but that OGS took the job on condition of getting rid of a “massive” list of players including Bailly, Mata, Sanchez, Matic, and Pereira immediately; and Young, Smalling and Jones when their deals conclude.)  All fun talk … but he now has Sancho staying at Dortmund ... and it’s hard to believe even ManU is dysfunctional enough to allow this type of leak.

I think our Arry has lost interest since it was rumoured the 'big' clubs would come calling after his decent spell at last years World cup. He sometimes just doesn't look arsed. With the prospect of Filip Benkovic coming off loan from a good season at Celtic I wouldn't be upset to see Arry moved on for a decent profit. Sell him and offload a few others for a bit of change, like Slim, then there could by around £100mn for BR to hit the casino with.

They've just had a baby, so can't imagine him wanting to leave at this stage tbh - especially when Rodgers and co can improve him even further to his potential.

That literally makes fcuk all difference except to the normal working man. He still lives up north, he wouldn't batter an eyelid for an extra £50-100k a week.

Having a baby don't change a thing and working with Pep is an upgrade on Rodgers.

Plus less games and more trophies. Loads more cash and global recognition.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7047439/Pep-Guardiola-makes-Harry-Maguire-No-1-target-replacement-departing-Vincent-Kompany.html

Daily Mail now reporting it Laurie Whitwell is fairly clued on with us.

Sportsmail understands Maguire is Pep Guardiola’s No 1 choice to replace Kompany and the City manager even approached the Leicester defender on the pitch at the Etihad to express his admiration.

Sources say Guardiola made a beeline for Maguire after City’s 1-0 win earlier this month and lavished him with praise over his performance.

While no internal discussions on the matter have taken place it is believed City would need to offer an even bigger sum to get Maguire. The cost might have to eclipse the £75m price Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk, given Maguire’s age and nationality.

Yeah yeah!..

But apart from less games, more trophies, global recognition, working with Pep and earning a shed load of money what can Manchester City offer him!!?..

Sadly or not this is one of the best ways to build a team to get in the top six. Through selling players on and taking the money. Investing in youth for the academy and to compete for places in the first team. It's why its so important to have the best development and scouting teams. We're going to be selling players to the rich clubs every summer and in order for that to work we need to crate a conveyor belt of young talent.  I'm thinking if were going to be successful we should expect a turnover every three to four years.

Anyone know if there's any sell on clause from our deal with Hull?

Can't remember if anything was reported at the time.

But that will surely have an influence on how much hardball the club play.

If we are going to instantly lose 20% or something we would surely be wanting a figure closer to 80 or 90 million. I'm not saying for a minute he's worth that. But if we took 60 but are passing a load on to hull it wouldn't look such a great deal.

I think it was something like 15%

Realistically, a big fee for one of our best players would do wonders for our recruitment this summer. And Maguire is at the right age to still get a good fee - and we are talking about a world record fee here. Chilwell’s value will only shoot up even higher if he stays and progresses.

I’d ****ing love for us to keep him though. That would be a huge statement of intent. Tell Man City to go and **** themselves.
