Jamie Vardy polished off a bottle of port the night before he broke Ruud van Nistelrooy's goal-scoring record, Richie De Laet has claimed.

The pair were team-mates at Leicester when they shocked the world by winning the Premier League in 2016.

En route their striker rewrote history as he scored in 11 consecutive games - a record previously held by Van Nistelrooy.

Vardy broke the record against United in a 1-1 draw at the King Power, but the night before had enjoyed a traditional bit of port.

De Laet and he used to enjoy a drink on the sly, but while the defender helped himself to a small glass Vardy went one step further a drank the bottle.

"Well, on the evening before the 11th game, we were in our hotel room. We had our own ritual.

"We would get the team coach driver to buy us a bottle of port, and hide it away in our room.

"I drank a small glass of it - and he polished off the rest of the bottle. The next day he broke the record. What a guy - he's truly a top bloke."

Vardy went on to score 24 times that season and has continued to be prolific since.

People who think Vardy looks like Albert Steptoe are lazy thinkers. He is the spit of uncle Jack from Breaking Bad though (and more like him football wise - ruthless). I'd find a photo to prove my point, but I'm too lazy.

He's been absolutely superb today. That second assist was absolutely beautiful.

Apart from his finishing.

If we go back to 4-2-3-1 .......

Play Vardy in Barnes spot (Left Wing)

Nacho up top as (Striker)

Richardo / Albrighton (Right Wing)

Takes the pressure of Vardy (Clearly not back to previous best) and gives him some space with the ball at feet rather than the usual runs onto long passes.  Vardy always works the left hand side anyway, so a natural move for him.

Got ridiculed for saying this.  Guess Vardy is indeed happy operating left wing after all........

Looks so much sharper than he has since his injury.

Winning every 50-50, pressing so aggressively and closing players down again.

The goals will come if he keeps playing like this.

Everyone panicking about him losing it due to a slow hernia op recovery but next season he'll have 15/20 goals and the best part of 10 assists no bother now other players are stepping up to the plate to help him with goals.

Please don't start, nobody will be more disappointed that he missed a couple of opportunities than him, but overall that was a great performance from him as creator rather than finisher
