Premier League Thread 2019/20

Recommended Posts

The whole football world needs to come together to sort this out.  So difficult.

There isn't any reason why this all has to be sorted out over the next 12 months, it could be sorted out over a few years.

I'm of the opinion that this season needs to be played to its conclusion for the sake of the integrity of the sport.  As of this weekend, there were 9 weeks left of the season. Let's say the players can get back to full training at the beginning of August.  Let the season resume in mid August and play out naturally which would finish mid-October.  Scrap the Euros.

Usually the close season is 12 weeks.  With all the time off over the summer, elite athletes should be able to cope with 8 weeks off and start the 20/21 season in December.  Then for that and the following 2 seasons, scrap the EFL cup for Prem teams and condense the season into 35 weeks instead of 40 and reduce the close season from 12 to 10 weeks.  By my calculations, the 22/23 season would finish in May 2023 and everything can go back to how it was in the good old days.

The big difficulty which I don't have a solution for is what happens in the short term with things like players' contracts that are up this July, and the immediate cash flow problems that lower league clubs will experience.

The clip Sky showed of the Aston Villa bloke coming out of the meeting yesterday was hilarious. Basically doorstepped, jostled all the way to his taxi whilst microphones were shoved in his face from a short distance- all whilst we're being encouraged to avoid close contact and keep safe distances.

Hard to say, it is the teams in relegation who aren’t far off getting out and those only a couple of points to promotion. It isn’t fair either way. The best thing to do is to postpone the euros, and just resume the season when we can, and have no 20/21 season... maybe put the euros in the winter.

No 20/21 season would be disastrous and cause much further problems than voiding the current season. They’ll avoid that scenario if at all possible.

Thought I'd join you over here. Here we go! It's beginning to look like the suspension of the season, although clearly the right one given the current health crisis, will provide the perfect opportunity for the powers that be, who want to maintain the status quo in the Premier League and keep upstart clubs like LCFC, Wolves and Sheff U in their place, to do just that. Not only will they manage to justify erasing the results of the last 27 games they will. at the same time, find a way of awarding the title to Liverpool. When you have the power, and we all know money talks, you can have it both ways! Hope I'm wrong because being denied the hard-earned chance to take our place in the Champions League next season will have a huge negative impact on our progress as a club.

It will never happen in a million years, If the season is written off, either Liverpool win the league and we finish 3rd or they don’t win the league and we don’t get CL,  They could not justify anything else!!

If West Ham were a point off fourth, rather than outside the relegation zone on goal difference with tough fixtures to come, she wouldn't want the season declared null and void.

Just self-interest.

Of course it is, and that's why there will probably be more calling for it to be off behind the scenes than asking for it to continue.

My team of the season would be:

Henderson

TAA

Evans

Van Dijk

Robertson

Ndidi

Henderson

De Bruyne

Mane

Vardy

Salah

I like that team. I feel there'll be more Man City players in there though, even though imo they don't really play a consistent enough line up to get many in the team.

I'd be tempted to put Mahrez in for Salah.

Wolves and Sheff Utd need some more recognition. Jimenez has had another good season. Maybe Stevens for Robertson.

I was thinking Mahrez for Salah actually. I think someone in place of Robertson is the one you could do, so maybe Steven's would be a good shout. Jiminez wouldn't get in ahead of Vardy but he has been good. Same with Doherty, good season but can't leave TAA out.

Yeah and if TAA comes out Pereira goes in. No brainer in that scenario.

So, which stadium in the English top-flight is the best?

Well, there are plenty of factors to consider when making your decision.

Thankfully, OnlineCasinos.co.uk have done the hard work and created the Football Stadium Index.

They’ve hunted high and low at every ground to rate each stadium in seven different categories.

Sourcing data from club websites, or going direct to the teams themselves, they were able to standardise the figures and give a score between 0-10.

The results were then averaged out to determine the overall ranking – but which arena came out on top? Find out below…

Football-Stadium-Index.png?strip=all&w=496&quality=100

So, the best stadium in the Premier League belongs to Wolves.

Molineux has some fairly average scores when it comes the the ground itself, but high figures for their food, drink and season ticket costings see them top of the lot with a score of 7.73 out of 10.

Norwich come second, with Carrow Road scoring in a similar way to Molineux, with Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium picking up third thanks to a cheap pint and some fine Trip Advisor reviews.

And while it might be brand new, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium can only pick up fifth place – mainly down to the price of season tickets and their stadium tour.

Liverpool’s Anfield stadium can only muster a seventh place finish – a poor score when it comes to ease of access damaging its chances of winning the title.

St James’ Park, where Newcastle United play, sneaks in ahead of Anfield while Aston Villa’s Villa Park makes the top eight.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and Manchester United’s Old Trafford can only make 12th and 13th, respectively.

This is mainly down to the cost of a pie and a pint, while the season ticket and stadium tour pricing have also had an impact.

Bottom of the pile, though, is Chelsea’ Stamford Bridge with West Ham United’s London Stadium not rated as being much better.

It seems both London clubs could learn a lot from their rivals over prices and the quality of their arenas overall.

I honestly think id loose so much interest in the league if this season is void. Id find it hard to come to terms with this season being for nothing. Not sure If I could get myself up for it again.

Its like playing 75% of a playstation game then loosing your memory card. Or your mate turning off fifa when youre 3-0 up and trying to re-start it. Just sucks the motivation out of it.

It would just blur so much for me.

this is pretty much spot on imo.

Alison has missed large chunks of the season injured. Its Henderson imo, or completely leftfield Dubravka.

I don't see how you can possibly award the league to Liverpool but I also don't see how you can possibly take it away from them either.

Postpone things and shift them back - the integrity needs to be protected here.

The verdict on what they do will tell you a lot about the structure of football and I've got a sneaky feeling we'll be screwed over.

Allison has only missed 2 more games than Ndidi.  If he should be off, so should Wilf.

Sh!t happens doesn’t it. Would you never have another partner because you experienced one failed relationship?
