Popular Post AjcW Posted 17 July 2020 Popular Post Share Posted 17 July 2020 Honestly amazed by some of the comments still. He came on against Palace and took it from a meh 1-0 to a comfortable 3-0.... then he disappears and we’re less creative and a bit shit for two games. Comes back tonight and yet again we’re creating chances left right and centre. Yes the misses are annoying but he’s added so much more in both of those games! As for the Nacho situation. Yes no idea what’s going on there, you have to assume something must have happened. Personally it’s Perez position he takes for me with Barnes in the hole.
RowlattsFox Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 When he's decent he always has an impact on the game. Only so long you can keep saying it but "if only he could finish"

Comes back tonight and yet again we’re creating chances left right and centre That's not exactly true is it. He came on against Arsenal, created nothing and displayed the touch of Epstein. And in the Bournemouth game we created plenty of chances first half but couldn't put them away, a situation Barnes is unlikely to improve given his pretty woeful finishing over the last year and a half. sdb Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 Just needs to become more clinical in front of goal. It's a process and I'm sure he'll get there. He's got the knack of being in the right place at the right time. That's the harder trait. Does seem to ease out of 50/50s a little too much for my liking but we've got a real player here. Let's not drive this one out eh??
lcfc sheff Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 Been a good season for him, next year he’ll be very good! Raheem sterling had a nack for getting in the right position but finishing poorly, Harvey barnes can definitely turn his chances into goals if Raheem can! Claridge Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 look so much better with Barnes in the team, been messed around a bit lately. Much rather have him than Maddison in the 10 role next season 1
Popular Post notnow john Posted 17 July 2020 Popular Post Share Posted 17 July 2020 He's twenty two ,this is his first full season in the premier league and he has more assists than any other English midfielder not to mention six goals. He still has lots to improve on,but come on, what are we expecting? Id rather have a continuous improvement than a firecracker that quickly burns out!
foxfanazer Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 Just having in the team changes our intent imo. Puts us on the front foot and pins the opposition back. He'll know what he needs to work on but please let's not write him off like we always do
Guest Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 I thought he had a great game yesterday. His energy in the first half set the scene for our victory.

I think he will be better in a free role, a more central position linking with the forwards is more suitable as against coming off the wing. Not necessarily no, I should’ve just said attacker.

His finishing is poor and needs some experience to help his decision making. He'd be in double figures for sure

I reckon BR was just out to justify his decision to drop Nachos at half time against Bournemouth by dropping Nachos so that he can continue to pretend he saw something to sub him against Bournemouth that none of us saw. 🤷♂️ Or. Maybe he got it bang on tactically and the players chosen executed our game plan. 🤷♂️
Grebfromgrebland Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 Barnes is having a great season and was integral to getting us to the position we're in. We really do have a lot of idiotic fans

Mickyblueeyes Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 At 22, with the amount of assists and impact performances he has had for his first full premier league season, he has done fine. The composure etc. will come with time and coaching. Really believe we will have a player on our hands.

Im not bashing Barnes, I like him, but why is he starting when you’ve got an in form Nacho on the bench. I don’t know what Kel did to piss Rodgers off but I don’t like it. If Luke Thomas could lend Barnes a bit of composure that’d help too I never understand comments like this. For Nacho to bury those chances, he'd have to get into the position in the first place. The first chance Nacho wouldn't have the dynamism to burst past the defender, the 2nd chance he'd have to be sprinting from deep, no guarantee he'd get into a position where the chance is as good. Nacho is a much better finisher than Barnes, you'd be mad to have a different opinion, however, i doubt we'd have been running Sheff Utd into the ground as much as we did without the Barnes, Vardy, Perez trio yesterday, they all put massive shifts in and helped make the game appear very stretched when we were attacking. Barnes has a lot of raw tools. He actually has a decent technique (see pre assist v Arsenal and assist v Man City for examples), but he struggles to control that technique when he's moving at pace. A pre season of constant practice of his technique, whilst moving at pace, will elevate his game i'm sure. Foxxed Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 Barnes seems more of a midfield threat. Nacho more of a finisher. If we want to put pressure down the wings I would start Barnes.

For what he was trying to do, he has to open up his body more to bend it in. The only thing I'll say is that how bad Henderson's positioning was, it may have put him off, with him thinking "sh*t there's a massive gap in the other corner" and it's made him get it all wrong. Guest SO1 Posted 17 July 2020 Share Posted 17 July 2020 Barnes reminds me of Raheem Sterling when Rodgers managed him. Had everything but finishing ability. Night and day watching Sterling finish now but he'll never be a natural finisher. Like Sterling Barnes will have to work his ass off to get to that level. Natural finishing ability is a gift. Ask Vardy.

UniFox21 Posted 4 August 2020 Share Posted 4 August 2020 Interesting this, shows the expected goal contributions of u23 players. Barnes is positioned quite well compared to other players. Hopefully he can kick on next year.

I can only think of Tielemans who fits the age + minutes criteria but I'm sure I'm forgetting someone
