Popular Post Aesc Posted 4 July 2020 Popular Post Share Posted 4 July 2020 8 assists for him in the league now. De Bruyne, Trent, Son, and Traoré are the only players with more. Mahrez and Robertson level on 8. And we know there's even more to come from this lad!
dmayne7 Posted 4 July 2020 Share Posted 4 July 2020 Exactly. Not doubting he hasn't been great since the restart and he's prone to a complete rush of blood to the head but he's the one player in the team who always looks like making something happen (when he's positive!). He's in a luxurious position for a young player in that he basically just needs to refine a few things rather than learn new skills. Does that and he'll be some player. kingfox Posted 4 July 2020 Share Posted 4 July 2020 He’s had such a yo-yo season, but he made an instant impact when he came on today, quality! Some may not agree but I honestly wouldn’t start him atm, today proved that he is far better as an impact sub right now. In this current climate where fitness isn’t 100%, send him on at around 60-70 minutes and get him running and pressuring defences.
baldeagle Posted 4 July 2020 Share Posted 4 July 2020 Benching him today was perhaps the kick up the arse he needed . Very positive when he came on also I’m not sure but I think I seen him tackle someone . Don’t quote me on it

I love the way some games unfold and he comes in fresh with 20-25 to go and is a fcukin nuisance. Probably when he's at his most dangerous, that said when you haven't got the options its hard to leave him out. I think we need to go 3-4-1-2 though for a run of games and that means he is the perfect sub on 60 mins for either a striker or the number 10 and he can have a huge impact. Angus Scott Posted 4 July 2020 Share Posted 4 July 2020 I think, similar to Perez, that he is not really a winger. As has been said he is better in a free role, however we can't play everyone in that role. He really frustrates me as you can see the ability that he has, but he disappears out of the game on too many occasions. Needs to get more consistent. ParkerPen Posted 4 July 2020 Share Posted 4 July 2020 strikes me as a confidence player too, hopefully today's good showing will help his confidence !

I know where you are coming from because in our academy Barnes played as a 10 / attacking central midfielder, and it's only in recent seasons that his role has been "re-imagined." But unlike Perez, I think it makes perfect sense for Barnes. He's rapid, a decent dribbler, makes good decisions (this is why Gray fails IMO), can put in a good delivery and with enough practice can finish - he certainly showed that in the Championship. The thing is that he is really raw at the role and that's why he's so inconsistent. But to maybe put your mind at ease somewhat, take a look at this video: That is the same Mo Salah that shares the record for most amount of goals in a Premier League season. When he was younger he was also super rapid, but made tons of mistakes. It's why Jose kicked him out at Chelsea. Now don't get me wrong I am not saying Barnes is going to get to Salah's level, but my point is the role is one that can be learned over time. It's the natural attributes that define your potential in the role, and Harvey has them. I remember seeing Salah at Basel, then Chelsea, then Roma and then Liverpool and it was fascinating to see him go from a player with raw potential, to moving to a big club too early, to redeeming himself, to becoming runner-up for the world player of the year award. Zaha has 3 goals and 3 assists this season. Pepe has 5 goals, 6 assists. Felipe Anderson has 1 goal, 4 assists. Dan James has 3 goals, 6 assists. Adama Traora has 4 goals, 9 assists. Heung-Min Son has 9 goals, 9 assists. Willian has 8 goals, 5 assits. Christian Pullisic has 7 goals, 2 assits. Harvey Barnes has 6 goals, 8 assists. That's very good stats for someone still learning the game! Only the top two really have elite class players in this category; Sadio Mane: 15 goals, 7 assists Mo Salah, 17 goals, 7 assists. Riyad Mahrez (remember him!?) 9 goals, 8 assists Raheem Sterling 13 goals, 1 assist And of course Man City have also unlocked the "cheat code" in the Premier League by having the following player who isn't even a winger or forward: Kevin de Bruyne: 11 goals, 17 assists (!) So in summary I sort of agree, but disagree! I think if you gave Barnes a few seasons he will become a great wide forward, he just needs the time, learned experience and coaching to do it.
Ian Nacho Posted 4 July 2020 Share Posted 4 July 2020 I don’t know if it’s me but he always looks better when Chilwell isn’t playing. You can take Villa at home as an example too. They seem just to get in each other’s ways.

lgfualol Posted 4 July 2020 Share Posted 4 July 2020 Would flourish in the number 10 role if we keep the 352 and he has free roam. He'll only get better.
Lesta2014 Posted 4 July 2020 Share Posted 4 July 2020 No coincidence he Looked good with fuchs left back and also in the free role/number 10. Isn’t this where he played for the academy when breaking through? I remember him coming on Cm against Porto for debut? Is this his best position?
Popular Post TheLittleBigMan Posted 4 July 2020 Popular Post Share Posted 4 July 2020 Most exciting player in the team for me. Capable of playing anywhere in attack. I hope the fans can let him find out how deadly he can be. I say this because I know the club can but i've seen questionable patients from some of us towards any inconsistency from our younger players. I would hate to see 'Barnes to ....' coming up in any transfer window anytime soon. Up the foxes
Popular Post Aus Fox Posted 5 July 2020 Popular Post Share Posted 5 July 2020 (edited) I often see the Madison, Fidel, Grealish comparison and who’s better, sometimes Cantwell and Ali are also compared but Barnes has more assists than anyone on that list. Such a confidence player but 7 goals and 8 assists for someone who has been in and out of the team this year and is only 22 is astonishing. What’s even more astonishing is the fact that he still gets stick from our supporters. No where near the finished player yet, but even slight improvement in confidence and decision making and those stats could easily double. TrentFox Posted 5 July 2020 Share Posted 5 July 2020 Good cameo yesterday. Personally, think that overall he has been awful since restart, but maybe he’s very much a confidence player 🤷♂️ Either way, having him back close to his best for the run-in, with what may be a depleted squad, would be a fabulous boost.

Looks good through the middle - like Pérez, Nacho and Vardy... Needed dropping though - pleased he got two assists. Great talent but needs to work on his first touch.
TrentFox Posted 5 July 2020 Share Posted 5 July 2020 Agree re central. At a time when, without Ricky and Madders, we are woefully short of creativity, it seems a tactic worth trying to me. He’s more combative than Perez - my son’s rabbit is more combative than Perez - and has that x-factor of unpredictability.
lcfc sheff Posted 5 July 2020 Share Posted 5 July 2020 Rotate him in the no.10 role or even as a striker. I’ve said it since he’s been playing for us his future isn’t on the wing.

He gets too isolated playing on the wing, especially on the left side, I understand the cutting in, but he shoots too much with his weaker foot.
nnickn Posted 5 July 2020 Share Posted 5 July 2020 Rogers should fine hin 10k every time he shoots over the bar, he would get 5 more goals a season. Same with Gray.
Gubbins Posted 7 July 2020 Share Posted 7 July 2020 From one extreme to the other sadly. He's slightly Drinkwateresque in that regard in that when he plays well he runs the show but if he plays poorly he ends up being so bad he's a real detriment to the team. You could argue that he was put back out wide again tonight (I would def have hooked Perez for him at ht tbh) but it doesn't excuse his consistently abysmal first touch when he came on. Next year will be massive for him to prove if he's a long term top half prem forward.
