The ‘Media Trying To Sell Our Players Again’ Thread

It came from a meme posted on Twitter years ago which became known as "Mocking SpongeBob". Basically you make an inane statement using said typeface which characterises the opinion you're against, then post this picture of SpongeBob Squarepants along with it to complete the comment.

Some people take their passion for all of this very seriously . . .

I'm starting to think we already are a top 6 club and should only be selling players for £100mil to PSG or Barca.

Tbf that's the only logical conclusion where our players are concerned. Could see the likes of those 2 and Real and Juventus throwing big money at Youri, Cags, Wilf and Ricky P...

Holy Crap! I hope none of those clubs are reading this post...

Too true! I dont like the thought any longer of selling to our rivals and flooding the premier league with our old players as opposition.

If our players do well - which we all hope they do - then they'll get linked with other clubs.

It's never "the media trying to sell them" though.

It's just the way the football press works.

Every clubs fans think the press/pundits/referees/VAR have it in for their particular club, that’s how its always been and always will be.

"Media trying to sell them" is just a phrase, isn't it? Of course they can't actually sell them but they can make suggestions or attempt to influence. If a player does well for us then it's not unheard of for the press or a pundit (like, Danny bleedin' Murphy) to suggest directly that he's earned the chance to play for another ('big' or 'elite') club as he sees it. We can't having him playing for one of those non-chosen dirty majority, now can we. It gets very tiring and actually a bit depressing.

Jamie Redknapp said that Fofana will leave us as the most expensive defender which makes Maguire the second most expensive defender.

Little Wes will make a couple of mistakes at some point and the likes of Redknapp will quietly ignore he ever said that.

Pundits don't see Leicester as one of the "elite" (and we aren't, maybe some day in the future though) so Leicester to one of the "rich six" is considered an upgrade.

Of course we are much nearer those clubs now in terms of league position and what we can pay in wages.

Manchester City have the Pep factor and plenty of money. Liverpool & Man United have a huge status which players growing up (over the past 20 years or so) will be attracted to.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs would be more of a sideways move right now.

Pundits are not "trying to sell our players" at all. They look at deficiencies at the top clubs and identify which players could improve them. Some of those players will be ours, some will belong to other clubs.

We shouldn't take any of this personally.

I alluded to this the other night in the post match thread I think about Fofana.

Man Utd have lost their best player to Real Madrid before, as have Liverpool and Chelsea.

Barca have lost their best player to Real!

No club is immune to a player wanting other opportunities.

For now, let's just take it a a compliment that our players are that good.

Pundit Robbie Earle believes that Liverpool should sign Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana in the near future.

This lock down is causing serious damage - it really is.   Little old Leicester do the decent thing and bend over.

P.S.   Does a full moon bring out the Bell-ends?

Absolutely.  It's not like the media take a commission on sales of Leicester players.  They are just trying to sell their own media outlet and to do that, it makes sense to play into the hands of the big 6 because that's the easiest way to target the most people in the easiest way.

Take a look at the league table and it's apparent that we have a good team and we have a good team because we have good players.  10 years ago, they weren't trying to flog Steve Howard to Man Utd.

Is there a precedent for a side spending £30 m on a player in August and selling for a profit in jan? No is the answer ....
