I live on a boat in Barrow upon Soar and in 1 hour 90 people walked past, if you multiply that by 8hrs which is the peak times between 9am and 5pm and add a couple of hundred for the quiter times before 9 and after 5 , Near on a thousand people a day are trudging past.

I have been here for four years now and have never had this amount of foot traffic,  ever.

@Nod.E's reply to you is spot on, but also you're taking an hour in isolation and assuming that'll work out for the rest of the day. That might have been a particularly busy hour. Sit there and count them all day, then you've got a proper reliable data source.

This is nuts

why don’t supermarket workers have face shields ? Is it because they can’t get enough to give to everyone on the shop floor and just covering some staff would expose them to selecting some staff ahead of others ?  Surely they can explain that they’re doing their best in the face of a global shortage ?

Tesco in Loughborough has one guy in the entire store with a face shield, although every time I've been in he's been stood (way too close) having a natter with one or two other staff members or someone from the public. The people on the tills have the perspex shields at least, and those giving out trolleys/baskets are well stocked with gloves/sanitiser (no face masks) but everyone else in the store seems to completely disregard the social distancing rules.

My partner often has to go into a Tesco Express in Nottingham on his lunch break and its even worse there - security staff actively blocking the entrance so you have to brush past them, too many people in the store etc. It's ridiculous.

Mmmm the hair dressing business is surly the worse for up close and personal, spreading germs, schools as well gotta be one of the worse things to spread the disease, i know we want to get back to the norm as soon as possible, but these are massive risks, id say mid june at very earliest buddy

Interestingly they’ve let hairdressers stay open here in Western Australia. I thought this was madness at the time but it doesn’t seem to have caused a problem. Then again we never had such a problem with community transmission as has occurred in the UK, though it did feel at one stage as if it would take off here.

Why is the 2-week quarantine if travelling in to the UK only just coming in now? Why was it not done at least 2 weeks ago when we were in the midst of our peak, or approaching it?

should have been 6 weeks ago. It’s all about money

4 who’ve probably had it in 6 weeks approximately? ASDA is a massive store with plenty of footfall. I think we can be cautiously optimistic, as long as we look after the vulnerable that we can ease ourselves out of lockdown sometime next month.
Im in no way being blasé about things, I just don’t think Corona is lurking on every corner.

It’s going to be a difficult long haul for the vulnerable, and hopefully all can get the help they need to remain safe.

The rest of the country needs to get back to some kind of normality by early June otherwise the country will be ruined and the impact job losses and homes being lost will have on mental illness will be huge.

My view is probably very simplistic but we can’t afford too many more week in lockdown.

I work in still open retail ,we were planning for 50% of the workforce of 30 to be off because of this minimum but have had had 1 off in 4 weeks (touch wood)

I genuinely think with strignent social distancing plus isolating vulnerable as well as core NHS staff And care workers theirs away out of this

Pretty well everyone coming into the U.K. are U.K. nationals returning home and they will be under the same restrictions as we all are. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but the U.K. probably has the largest number of daily deaths per head of population as anywhere in the world.  Why are you concerned that someone coming into the U.K. over the past 4 weeks might have COVID ?  thousands of people in your local town/city have had covid over the past month .....once lockdown is relaxed somewhat and we finally embark on a track and trace operation, those coming into the country will have to be either be swabbed or undertake a fortnights isolation to control the onset of any second wave.

Why am I concerned?! Something to do with it being a global pandemic maybe!

Just because 1000s of people in local areas might have had it, that doesn't mean it's finally okay to start letting people come in to the country? How do we know these people coming in/returning to UK won't stick to the rules and aren't one of the people that aren't abiding by the social distancing rules?

What's the latest on this track and trace operation? When is that going to come in to play?

But it’s a global pandemic ..... it’s everywhere including here ..... there are currently going to be tens of thousands of people infected across the country. A few more coming in with the virus won’t make any difference to that ......... and how do you propose to quarantine many thousands of people ?  you can’t and the alternative is asking those entering the country to isolate for two weeks .... some of them certainly wouldn’t and you’ve gained nothing by asking them to. Your post makes it sound as if everyone coming in (and the daily numbers are low) is carrying the virus when they won’t be.

there is absolutely something to gain by changing the regs once we relax and have a trace system in. I doubt you’ll see many people travelling for some time (apart from nationals continuing to return home) for some time anyway ........

the latest on track and trace ?  You’ll know when it’s ready ..... we won’t see much of a relaxation till it is !

I can assure you that the hour I counted was not a particularly busy hour.

It is relentless all day.

This is the advice with respect to towpaths and boats.

And don't get me started on the amount of dog shit that we are clearing up because people cannot be arsed.

I've never seen so many people out walking/cycling/running/ walking with dogs which I'm sure they never had months ago!!!!

Why is this surprising? People that usually go to the gym, play football, golf, play tennis or are otherwise engaged in other clubs and societies now cannot do those things, so they're walking instead.

Yep, not surprising at all. This is pretty much the first time I've exercised outside as I usually do it in the gym which obviously I can't right now

Sounds to me like a couple of them had a cold and kidded themselves on, it could quite easily be less.

Maybe some people say they have it for attention.

I think it's more that a lot of people want to believe they've already had it.

When sport returns,an amusing thought

I wonder in Team sports, especially football,if we might see a permanent or long Term Adjustment ,

towards goal celebrations,or Mobbing the ref or linesmen. Yellow or red cards for not Keeping 'social-distancing'

Which Player will be the First carded, After scoring, removing his top, revealing in large Letters on his T-Shirt.   " A big thanks to our NHS"

Or the first 20-50 fans, removed from the stadium, for jumping over each other while celebrating...

Rugby, no scrums,mauls,or rucks...

Now cricket  & Baseball !!  2 team Sports that can be played without any real close contact...

A few questions:

1. I know the lockdown was meant to reduce the spread, which it appears to be doing. Therefore reducing the impact upon the NHS. However, if we relax social distancing measures, people who are going stir crazy will just go and star socialising ...... won’t they?

2. Is a 2nd wave, then a 3rd etc of this unpreventable, as we anywhere between 8 - 30 different strains, with further mutations?

3. What will the new normal be?

As these workers are in contact with hundreds of people daily and have been working through the whole outbreak it would give a good indication to how we can ease ourselves out of lockdown.

The figures for M&S last week were 2 have sadly died and 20 were in hospital. They had sent home all of their vulnerable staff home on full pay a week or 2 before the furlough scheme started. I used to work for Asda a while back and I’m really glad that I’m not in retail right now.
