Staffs Fox Posted 15 May 2020 Posted 15 May 2020 Exactly. And if they’re concerned about passing it in the family members, what about the rest of us that have to go to work; the bus drivers, the people on the check outs, they are at risk every day and have been for the past 2 months and also don’t get the testing and safety procedures they have?! Do they think they can sit at home, getting full pay when their employers income has completely stopped?? How sustainable is that?! Football is their job, if they refuse to go to work, they shouldn’t get paid, like the rest of us

He ceratainly isn't one of their who doesn't care about the fans. He is always out spoken and the media like to quote him. St Albans fox is right but yes people are also fair to point out others have to to work all the time at risk - and in much more serious situations ofcouse . Wasn't so long ago they were being called selfish for even thinking about coming back .

Wasn't so long ago they were being called selfish for even thinking about coming back . We don't know who is working and who isn't. There may be men with pregnant partner who are not going out to work because they think it's too dangerous. It may depend on their financial situation - and of course footballers are not going to risk their family to get a bit more money.
Webbo Posted 15 May 2020 Posted 15 May 2020 Who will these players bring the virus home to? Their wife, if they're married, probably around the same age, their children, very unlikely to be affected. If they're still living with their parents, they are not likely to be pensioners. If they live with someone in a vulnerable group, fair enough, let them stay at home, there can't be many with that excuse though.
Super_horns Posted 15 May 2020 Posted 15 May 2020 Well I think Glenn Murray said his father lives with them and has asthma but I was lead to believe players won't be allowed to go home .. All seems a bit uncertain which is part of the problem potentially? No clear guidelines yet ..

Corky Posted 15 May 2020 Posted 15 May 2020 Players have a straight choice now- play with the risk or find another profession. This virus isn't going away any time soon, they won't (and shouldn't) be able to not play and receive a full wage, the clubs appear to be doing all they can to keep players as safe as possible with the restrictions they have, if we're waiting for a vaccine- who knows when that will be ready and available? Unfortunately, they are in a profession where they can't work from home, can't keep social distances on the pitch and have no alternative work to do, so it will be a case of play or do something else soon. It's just not practical to keep waiting and waiting- clubs are having to pay back money even if the season resumes. If it doesn't, the situation gets worse. Football has to return soon.

Ashley Posted 15 May 2020 Posted 15 May 2020 Brighton website suggests their game v Arsenal will be June 13th. Assuming ours will be the same day too. (V Watford)

There's a spare place in the bottom two divisions after Bury's exit- they'll probably send three down from League One, four up and just promote Barrow to make it 24 apiece in Leagues One and Two.

Blanchflower78 Posted 16 May 2020 Posted 16 May 2020 With no vaccine likely for months at best but probably years when is safe to play? Clubs will literally fold in no time unless football can resume, albeit not as a fans participation sport. As for safety, we know of a few flouting lockdown rules already. Understandable to be cautious but stepping out your front door immediately comes with its risks. As crass as this sounds the disease has been a direct threat to elderly people with underlying conditions, neither apply here to footballers. Yes, they could pass it on but they could do that being in a shop, supermarket etc...so if restart comes with far safer working conditions and regular tests than the average bloke in the street gets at work then when do they want to go back to earn their 100k a week?

The modern day footballer hasn’t experience ‘real life’ for many years they live in their bubble and many will be scared of their own shadows, never mind a deadly virus ......(yes I know)

Bringing it hone???? Ffs what about the millions of us that have been working since it Has started, on a fraction of there wage! It does not surprise me though, the modern footballer
Guest Posted 16 May 2020 Posted 16 May 2020 Are footballers (and their families) not going to move from their houses in case they catch or spread the virus in the shops, parks, gyms etc.... after the country leaves lockdown but before the entire planet is vaccinated?
Super_horns Posted 16 May 2020 Posted 16 May 2020 I did think they were going to be placed in hotels for the duration to avoid then going home to their families etc so passing it not might be an issue.

Pretty confident that the bottom six will decide that there are no hotel complexes that provide enough security for them ......
