It's nice seeing Southampton doing well for a change, but come on, they're not really top are they? They just happened to have played earlier than everyone else. 

 

I doubt anyone would have made any fuss if we'd have gone top after beating Palace last Friday (which we would have done but for a shit decision from Lee Mason).

In fairness, of all the multiple teams that the media have tried to wank themselves off over so far (Everton, Leeds, Leicester, Villa), Southampton are probably the most "Leicesteresque."

 

Garbage last year, looked like relegation favourites, turned it around, carried that form in to the new year, English striker on a redemption arc, spent minimal compared to everyone else. 

 

They've done really well.

They are giving it the big one far too early. It’s the equivalent of celebrating a lottery win after getting the first number.

 

If they are in the mix after Xmas I’ll give them credit but will reserve judgement until then

Even if may well even be temporary, it's nice and refreshing to see a 'minnow' side being at the higher end of the table.

They are hardly a minnow side. They have a huge history. In recent times I guess but history counts

Have you ever had a bad result that wasn't the result of poor refereeing? You seem like a really unlucky club

I still think Liverpool will have too much for everyone else but the rest of the race will be fairly close. Plenty of teams looking strong.

Yeah putting a screenshot on your social media channels of you top having played a game more than everyone else is horrendously small time. But I guess when you're allergic to winning trophies that's as good as it gets.

The Southampton guff has reminded me of that time Burnley qualified for the Champions League a couple of seasons back.

Blimey, they're only having a bit of fun. I remember when we made a huge deal of being top in 2000. You go through enough turgid football and dirge, why not make the most of smaller but impressive feats?

Both Everton and Aston Villa fans have given it large already this season but have now had a dip in form. Notts Forest spout off early in most seasons that they have won promotion by November, although not this season funnily enough. 

 

Having said this I do rate Southampton quite highly and think they could make a sustained challenge for the top 4/6 this season.

Southampton could be 5th by the end of the weekend. It's only a bit of fun but it's only really an achievement if you're top at the end of the matchday week.

Can another clubs fans not be chuffed with how they are looking ffs? Isn’t this actually the first time they have ever been top of the EPL?

Great to see southampton top. Good manager, well run club and play decent football. Would much rather see them up at the top over the 'big 6' any day of the week.

Doesn't understand the criticism of Southampton fans being excited about their start. It's like saying we could only enjoy our title winning season once we'd mathematically won it. Some of my favourite memories of that season were early on

If Brendan were to vanish tomorrow, out of all the realistic options 'available', I'd be looking at Hasenhuttl first and foremost.

Because it would totally devalue our title winning season. It would be then ‘doing a Leicester and Southampton’ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it does it. **** being on the same level as Southampton our club is special and should have the status of the famous title winners.
