Europa League 20/21

For anyone wondering how much money you make from the Europa League nowadays, Swiss Ramble has posted an estimation for this season's money on Twitter.

That's part of a thread about Champions League money. Interestingly, Lille earned €38m just for getting a single point in their group. CL cash is still loads more than the EL, naturally.

22 million is good and could be the funding for the signing that means champions league year after instead of the Europa

Has it been mentioned yet that if we win this competition we'll likely qualify for the expanded FIFA World Club Cup, which will be in China and have 24 teams, seven from UEFA?

Apparently the allocations will see past UCL and UEL winners going back X number of seasons. It was supposed to be this summer but has been delayed for obvious reasons.

FIFA have said it'll be probably until 2022/23 until it's played now.

Is this true? I couldn't think of anything worse for a competition nobody gives a toss about already! Sounds absolutely disgusting

The competition is in the air due to dates, but I've seen many references like this one from as.com. My initial post had us down for seven places when it looks like it's eight.

Nothing finalised, but winning it in 2020/21 would make us VERY likely to be taking part.

From another forum:

Regarding the 20/21 Champions and Europa Leagues betting, in light of the quarantine tennis that is likely to happen.

How will European football be different?

All qualifying ties for the Champions League and Europa League will be single-leg matches. However, home and away matches will return for the Champions League play-off round, due to be played at the end of September. Both tournaments are likely to be dramatically altered if the COVID-19 pandemic worsens.

UEFA has announced that if a member country enforces travel restrictions which prevent a tie from taking place, the host team must forfeit the match. If both teams’ governments ban travel, UEFA can disqualify both clubs from the tournament.

I don't get why a club should be penalised in this way when it's not them who makes the decision on whether travel restrictions are brought in.

I thought the rule was a game would only be forfeited if the home side can't find somewhere else for both teams to play. Or has that changed?

If this was accurate they'd end up with no one left in th completion by the QF stages

There is a way around it - Celje, Slovenian Champions are playing the Irish Champions, Dundalk in Budapest.

You only have to look at this week's total cluster**** what was Drita v Linfield. 2 positive COVID players - UEFA rules say 13 players would lead to a cancelled fixture. Swiss authorise made the decision for UEFA by putting the Drita squad in quarantine.

If we are not having fans, why have UEFA not been clever enough to suggest bubble situations for the first half of next years Europa League. Groups go to 3 games over 16 days held in a single venue. Squads can go into hotels, training grounds with regular testing. You could alter the qualification process similarly to suit.

Haven't read much of this thread so sorry if this has been asked, but does anyone think we're going to get a harder Europa League group than the Champions League group we got?

The new way of working out the coefficient really has been done to keep the top dogs at the top and our seeding for this is ridiculous really.

No because pot 2 is likely to be full of Central European or lesser leagues dominant teams, their coefficient is high because they repeatedly qualify but they are naff

Yeah its more a tactic designed for the champions league, but still its silly we are in that pot.

I would imagine it would be very similar,Pot one will have a Porto type team in it.

We could sneak into pot two if results go our way, if not a Copenhagen type team will come out of that and pot 4 will probably be slightly worse than Club Bruge.

Teams go in and out of form over a season. Over a full season we showed we have a better team/squad than wolves by finishing higher than them in the league. I really don’t get this wolves are amazing and we are trash opinion that is constantly aired on this forum. Wolves are an inconsistent mid table side with a pretty boring style of play who have only even been in the league for 2 season.

Also saying they are still in Europe. So would half the premier league if they had played the teams wolves had. And most wouldn’t have been played off the park by olympiacos either like wolves were.

..the mere fact that they were embroiled in additional games makes their final position a great achievement!!!

We will be playing Thursday and Sunday's, it will take a toll on our roster.

I'm not sure it will, I always think it is more than manageable for a well run club. This season will certainly be harder because of the busier than normal schedule but I think it's doable.

It all kicks off today with the first preliminary round of the Europa League, amazingly the qualifying for next seasons competition starting before the previous seasons final.

Well worth keeping an eye on qualifying as we move through the rounds, to get into pot 2 and have a bit more of a comfortable group stage, we could do with a few teams with coefficients above ours going out of the competition and some of the stronger ones like Celtic in the CL qualifying for the CL and not dropping into the EL.

Ahh the Lincoln Red Imps! We played them in our first game under Rodgers and lost lol

Just had a quick google of the old Gibraltar Premier Division. So there’s 10 teams, they all share the same stadium (Victoria Stadium on Churchill Avenue) and the premier cup competition is called “The Rock Cup”. The Red Imps once went on a 5 year unbeaten streak (1,959 days) in the league from 2009 - 2014 comprising of a mammoth 88 matches.

I imagine BT will be banging down the door for the TV rights.

Winning the League Cup only results in qualification for the new Europa Conference Cup from next season, and winning the Conference Cup gets qualification for the group stages of the Europa league.

------------------------

"The 32 group stage entrants will be decided as follows:

• Seventeen teams from the UEFA Europa Conference League main path.

• Five teams from the UEFA Europa Conference League champions path.

• Ten teams eliminated in the UEFA Europa League play-offs.

The full access list will be communicated in due course.

How will it work?

There will be eight groups of four teams, followed by knockout round play-offs, the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

The eight group winners automatically go through to the last 16. Additional knockout round play-offs will then be played before the round of 16 between the eight group runners-up and the third-ranked teams of the UEFA Europa League groups.

The new competition will feature 141 matches over 15 match weeks, exactly like the new-look UEFA Europa League.

What do the winners get?

The winner of the new competition will be entitled to enter the following season's UEFA Europa League group stage.

Why is it being introduced?

The new structure for UEFA club competitions will ensure that at least 34 UEFA national associations are represented in the group stage of one or more competitions.

There will be a minimum of 14 domestic champions in the UEFA Champions League group stage, between eight and 11 domestic champions in the UEFA Europa League group stage, and between nine and 12 domestic champions in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage. All member associations will have access to all three club competitions, and all associations' quotas will remain unchanged."

That conference cup is going to be a plie of absolute dog shite.

It will, but it will improve the Europa League as it will mean less qualifying rounds and if you win the group you get a bye into the second knockout round.
