Maddison

Gorra laugh at people losing their shit Maddison hasn’t been picked.

I did think Southgate had an agenda against Maddison but what we’ve seen in the last 6 months perhaps Southgate was right all along an I owe him an apology.

Maddison’s far too inconsistent, he has potential, he has flashes of brilliance but poor more often than not, a passenger who needs to be carried by his teammates, on top of this he has a lot of growing up to do, even more so with a little one on the way.

He quite rightly way down the pecking order and shouldn’t even be mention in the same breath as those in his position.

There’s gotta be some injury crisis in that position for England for him to even be considered.

Hopefully with a kid on the way and this snub it’s the kick up the backside he needs, unfortunately his ego seems to be taking a turn for the worse more than even at the moment.

Time to grow up and knuckle down James.

I haven't seen that, on here at least? Has there been some noise elsewhere?

Think most of us understand he hasn't done anywhere near enough to even force himself into the conversation.

Mainly on social media which yes I understand is quite toxic and unwoke.

Regardless it’s quite funny them losing their shit.

I'll stress again what I said before but I just think he goes missing a bit easily, and particularly in the games you need him most. You forget he's playing. Well you never forget Grealish is playing.

Not making the 33 should be a wake up call for him and hopefully it proves so. He was picking up this season but post injury he's been a waste of a shirt.

The worrying thing for Maddison is who would he even replace in that 33 man squad? Never mind when it gets whittled down to 26. Before Xmas you would say Lingard, but since January he’s arguably been the best player in the premier league.

It was clear Southgate wasn’t sure about something, wether it was his personality, attitude or just simply couldn’t trust him but after COVID gate and the Casino incident, I can’t see him getting selected ever again whilst Southgate is in charge.

Nah, if he plays well and concentrates on his football he'll have a chance.

It seems to me that Madders is one of those players that will learn the hard way.

He has the potential to be a great player and it’s SO frustrating when good players don’t give 100% on the pitch. I hope I’m wrong but he seems to think it’s all about him on the pitch and that shows by his inability to get the basics right in exchange for the odd bit of showboating.

I think what Southgate saw was that he doesn’t play for one of the Big Sux clubs. If he did he would be in, simple as that.

He needs to stay fit first which I fear will always be difficult for him!

Agree with this.

I can’t see him at Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham or Liverpool.

In fairness, potentially Arsenal, however they’ve only recently shipped out Ozil, who was a similar player.

He’s got all the skills, all the ability, however it just hasn’t worked this season.

This happens sometimes, look at Youri after the initial loan spell. Let’s hope that he kicks on and becomes talked about again, as that means he’s performing well.

I don’t agree with this.

Who does he displace from Mount, Grealish, Foden and Lingard have been far superior to him since the start of the year.

I’d struggle to name him in a 33 man squad like others have said.

12 months ago, he was a definite pick, not now.

If he played for a greedy Sux club I think you’d find him in the squad. Speculation of course, so either of us could be right or wrong.

He consistently gives Southgate reasons to not pick him. Needs to get his head down like Grealish did and make sure Southgate is in a position where he’s that consistent and the media pressure is that consistent that he has no choice to pick him, like Grealish.

His Euro’s dream fell apart when he was sat on his sofa having been disciplined for the party, whilst Lingard put that two goal(?) performance in against us in front of Southgate. His performances since coming back into the squad haven’t exactly been brilliant either.

Not so sure. One thing I would confidently say about Southgate is he has generally picked the players in form.

Think this is a bit of an overreaction to some poor form post-injury.

I don’t think there’s anything to suggest he doesn’t care or doesn’t try. He has loads of ability, but it’s subject to occasional errors of judgement on-field (and compounded by some off-field). Luckily he has a whole off season with an excellent coaching team to work on that and his fitness. When he’s flying (19-20) he was top chance creator in the league. Let’s maybe have a bit of patience with people coming back into the team, especially if they’re rushing back to prop up a decimated squad.

People on here have already wanted to retire Evans and Vardy during poor spells this season. You’d think we might learn...

Load of rubbish. Take your blue tinted specs off and look at how poor he's been since about February. He doesn't deserve to go.

There’s no doubt he has ability. I just think he sometimes gets carried away with the idea of being a superstar. Like I said, he can be one of the best but needs to work on all areas of his game.

I have to agree with this.

Maddison isn’t anywhere near the England set up and rightly so but what you’ve said sums up everything that is wrong with the England set up.
