Wesley Fofana: Signs For LCFC

Recommended Posts

I’d be interested to see who would you pick between as a pairing if all 3 of Evans, Soyuncu and Fofana were fit!??

id have to go for Fofana and Soyuncu. Get them playing games together ASAP to build the understanding. We’ve got a potential CB pairing for 5 years +.

It will depend on the opposition, but as mentioned above, with those two in your team you could play a really high line, the sort that Liverpool play, because you will have the pace to recover on a fast counter attack. That means that the entire team can press the opposition further up the pitch and stop them getting out, which Klopp uses to tremendous effect with Liverpool.

Jonny Evans is a class act and very experienced and I think he will start the big games. But if you have a team at home we should beat, I'd play the other two and pen the opposition in so badly that it's one way traffic.

No wonder why we were so relentless in our pursuit of him. Looks like he has it all, very promising.

Yeah absolutely. If I was a scout tonight and saw that performance and found out the kid was 19 years old, I would be straight on the blower to my Director of Football and telling them to get the deal done ASAP. We paid a premium because if we didn't someone much bigger would take him instead.

We've recently been linked with Trincao, Tete and Fofana who we did sign, all of whom are quite young and relatively unknown. I'd love to talk to our scouting team because they are brilliant! I actually think we are much better with these type of signings than we are with the heavy hitters like Perez, Nacho maybe even Praet (who I really rate by the way). The only "bust" might be Benkovic but I believe that deal was a bit of a punt and I still think if he gets over his injuries that he will go onto to be a solid CB for a bottom 10 Premier League team quite easily.

He actually does! Maguire doesn't have pace and whilst he was good for us, especially in his first season, that was the biggest weakness in his game and he got caught out on several occasions, such as getting sent off away to Burnley. Peter Crouch just did a piece on him for BT Sports and said the same thing we all are, "what a performance!" Showed his pace, his aggression, his desire to not just want to win his personal duel but dominate the defence and showed some of his great passing too.

For us Maguire was good on the ball and was often used to start attacks during peak Puel-ball times, but Fofana for me is like having another Soyuncu. When both of those line-up together it will be insane because the entire team will be able to push up another 5-10 yards because both will have the pace to recover a turnover.

The scouting team should take a bow!

But according to some on here, Congerton is useless. If hes useless and we get the likes of Castagne and Fofana then that's fine by me.

Very impressed, one thing concerns me which isn’t his fault, he loves nipping infront of the striker. All need in prem is forward sticking leg out and dippy refs give a foul against him every time!

Front foot defending is brilliant. This is one of the reasons I rate Soyuncu so highly.

Very effective if the CB can read it well and only does it when it’s on. Not too dangerous if both CBs have pace as the second one will cover should the striker beat the one challenging.

Risk and reward, if Fofana wins the ball we can start a quick attack (useful that he can carry the ball well and pass accurately). At worst he gets turned or gives away a free kick. Coaching him when and where to defend like this will play a big part but usually it’s done higher up the pitch rather than in dangerous areas.

Playing alongside someone like evans is so important for the development for players like fofana and soyuncu though. You could see he was marshalling fofana the entire game instructing him what to do. Fofana's game is going to improve massively over the next few months playing alongside and learning from evans, like what happened with soyuncu last year.

I agree and in no way is it a criticism of him, just fear refs will get fooled by strikers! Has everything in his game to be a top top player. Wonder why he only played a few pro game last season and not the one before?

So the article albeit from that shit rag is now doing the rounds that he wants to move to Marseille... his home town club.

Looks a very good prospect for us and he might have some interest in him sooner rather than later. Just remember some of you on here were creaming yourselves at the fact he handed a transfer request in and publicly made it clear he wanted to come here.

Should he do that to us... don't cry.

So long as they meet our valuation (starting at 2x the buying price), we’ll be glad to chat....
