We play our players vast sums of money to actually play football, not sit on their asses at home watching soccer saturday. What is the point of football if you don't try & win things & we have a very good chance of winning the FA Cup, whereas we have little chance of winning the Prem & even qualifying for Europe will be very difficult. We cannot afford to take Stoke lightly & we do not want another Newport so I do not want to see Choudhury or Nacho but would loe to see Ricky & Cags I think the fact that qualifying for Europe will be difficult is exactly why we shouldn't be risking important players getting injured in a game like this. Getting into Europe's the most important thing this season. That's where the money is, and that's what will make us most attractive to potential signings. I think the squad players should be plenty good enough to beat an off-form Stoke side. I think a full-strength side is overkill, really. The reserves are also paid vast sums of money to play football, and they're the ones sat on their arses the most. This sort of match is ideal for getting them involved and keeping them sharp for when they're needed. 1

Any other season (except 15/16) I'd have said the same, but with the amount of games we've already played and ones we've got ahead it's silly to go full strength. Imagine if Vardy, Barnes or Tielemans gets a long term injury playing against Stoke in the 3rd round of the cup, we'd basically be ****ed for the rest of the season. Play a full strength team from the 5th round or QFs, not in the 3rd round. We've all missed out on a European tour this year, let's have one next season! I'd much rather we play 6 less cup games and have our players fresher for the league, there's no reason we can't hopefully finish 6th. Imagine we do end up going far in the FA cup, this will be our schedule (One or two dates may move slightly for tv fixtures) 16th Jan Southampton 19th Jan Chelsea 23rd Jan FA Cup 4th round 27th Jan Everton 31st Jan Leeds 2nd Feb Fulham 6th Feb Wolves 10th Feb FA Cup 5th round 13th Feb Liverpool 18th Feb Prague 21st Feb Villa 25th Feb Prague 28th Feb Arsenal 13 games in 43 days? Ridiculous. We're gonna need the squad players in here, so may as well play most of them in the FA cup games to keep them match fit and also keep the first 11 fresh. 5 3
KingsX Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 I’ve got various English branches on the family tree. But the only ones I ever heard where they came over from, were from Stoke and Staffordshire. So I’ve got a soft spot… for dogs. Not for Stoke! It must have been a real pit for them to up stakes. Hope we roll these 5-0. 1
Dahnsouff Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 So Stoke have loaned Rabbi Matondo (English) from Schalke - he is a winger, wonder if he will start
Mark Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 Kasper Ricardo Amartey Soyuncu Thomas Mendy Choudhury Under Iheanacho Perez Slimani I can see Rodgers going to a back five again if Ndidi is out though Kasper Amartey Soyuncu Fuchs Ricardo Mendy Choudhury Thomas Under Perez Iheanacho

Poiseuille Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 Can’t see Gray, Hamza and even Slimani getting any game time as they would then be cup-tied and we are clearly trying to move them on in January. Evans needs a rest but if he does, I suggest Morgan has to play to have that experience at the back alongside Soyuncu/Amartey. Can’t see Ricardo being thrown into this yet as well, hasn’t been on bench yet and we saw what happened last time we threw him from the start in freezing conditions...

I don't think the kind of clubs they're likely to go to will class the Cup as a priority.
Foxes96 Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 Normally am of the opinion that wholesale changes are rarely a good thing much rather managers make 5/6 if they want to rest players to keep some form of consistency and use their subs to rotate/ rest others as appropriate. That being said given the mad scheduling this year think it’s important not just to rest some of our key players but also keep our reserves happy and playing semi regularly. Think the team below should be good enough to get the job done, gives those back from injury some minutes and other Thomas and Amartey a chance to impress. The other bonus is if we do get to the next round some of these players should get another chance to impress in the next round. Don’t think Ricky will start given he’s not even been on the bench yet but if fit enough for the bench would be good to give him half an hour, and maybe bring Soy off after 60 mins depending on his fitness. Ward Castagne Amartey Söyüncü Thomas Ünder Praet Mendy Barnes Perez Iheanacho
adejo92 Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 I'd rather do without the cups this year. We'll risk players just to get knocked out by Chelsea or Man City later in the tournament. Let's focus on the league and Europe. That's what fans want to see. 1

RowlattsFox Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 So many are not bothered whether we go through or not? will that be the case in the post-match thread if we lose?

les-tah Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 All players that have played continuously or carrying little knocks deserve a rest until the next game already have our hands full with europa and a very competitive league. Ward amartey Morgan Fuchs thomas under Praet mendy Gray Perez Nacho

baldeagle Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 I think whatever happens JJ should get a rest he’s played every game for the full 90 unless I’m mistaken .
dynamark Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 Just keep a strong bench and let the main men have a breather.I think we know our best team now for most opponents and they have a busy time coming soon with every chance to stay in the top group. This looks like a very tight season Chelsea,Spurs,Pool,Man U/C,us even Villa and Everton could very well be in it at the end if ,if they keep getting results and get a bit luckly.

drofmor55 Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 I think Kasper,Vardy,Morgan etc would love to reach a Wembley final for Top and themselves.. the squad will be giving it 100%

Deeg67 Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 Play the guys who need game time. Soyuncu for an hour if he's healthy, Ricardo for half an hour off the bench if he can go. Otherwise guys like Praet, Under, and Perez need to play, and guys like Vardy, Evans, Justin and Fofana need to rest. In the big picture winning this match is unimportant against the state of the squad for the competitions that matter. 2

fuchsntf Posted 4 January 2021 Posted 4 January 2021 Not saying Rodgers should Pick on my suggestions...but here we go.. ** Young lad...Some up und Coming name..!! Ward Amartey Soyu ++ Ricardo/Justin. Thomas Mendy Praet.(capt) Young lad** Perez Under Nacho... ++ Depends if Ricardo is ready... Subs. Fofana,Fuchs,Choudhury,Barnes,Maddison,** Young lad striker,Albrighton...(Tielemans/Vardy/Ndidi/Evans given W.end.off) This Team IMO would be a decent 14-10th PL team, if Nacho could find his Scoring boots...> Penalty miss, Water under the Bridge < A very underrated group of players...I Make no mistakes I want that FA.cup, if it wasnt for our seasons heavy injuries History ,I would put in a couple more First teamers.. but we have to be prudent & pragmatic on selection...
