On the Optimistic Bus?

It's on the BBC, so that's good...

Several narratives going on here.

- Southgate v Germany at Wembley. Nothing bad ever happened with that, eh? :(

- Ze Chermans. Penalties, then.

- For Löw, it is a fixture not to be sniffed at.

- The tabloids are robably already looking out their War Puns.  Sigh.

- More Chelsea buddies for Mount and Chilwell to cuddle after the game.

They aren't that formidable these days and we are at home in front of 45k, it's as good a chance as we'll have had in the last 10-15 years of beating them.

It's destined to go to extra time and probably penalties though.

It depends which German side turn up to be honest. If it's the one that battered Portugal then we have zero chance. If it's the one that has been around for the past 3 years losing to teams like South Korea and North Macedonia then we are favourites. We know that we'll be turgid and defensive, it's just whether we can keep German chances to a minimum while nicking a goal or two.

England are on the good side of the draw, make it though this and we should make the semis at least, and dare I say we’d be favourites to make the final?

As the famous commentary line goes 'Here come the Germans, Kuntz'.

It's games like this where the 5 subs rule really favours us, but Southgate would be the sort of twat who even at 1-0 down with 20 to play he wouldn't load 3 attacking players on and go for it.

Incredible route to the final for the winner.

Much rather Germany than France or Portugal.

Think we’re better set up to play against them and can hit them on the counter like Hungary did.

My thoughts exactly. I was cheering for Hungary at one point, but Germany are a team we often match. We have a bit of a tourney hoodoo to overcome, but we are capable of beating them.

We thought that when we drew Iceland...

I do agree though. If you want one side of the draw, we some how got it.

Most significant England game probably of my lifetime. Win this and we go into a run of probably Sweden, then the Nerherlands at home - with the not beating a big team monkey off our back.

I have watched my team (Germany) play all 3 games. Portugal was a good game but the other two games we were poor. Also, in all 3 games we were vulnerable at the back which a team like England can expose. England have not massively impressed but won two and drew one and are yet to conceed.

For me, this is England's best chance to not just beat us but to go all the way. The draw has really opened up. Then just a one off final and don't forget England have home games in all bar the QF (and Rome isn't bad).

England are the favourites and rightly so. However, as with football, it comes down to performance on the day. Watching Germany regularly, we have been complete manure for 3+ years and I just don't see much change. Portugal was one of the few games I enjoyed watching us play.

Living here, an England vs Germany game is one I always want to avoid. Going to have to lock myself away somewhere.

A lot of people being a bit too negative about England on this forum. It's not about playing champagne football, it's about winning games.

Imagine dumping Rudiger, Havertz and Werner out in the R16 :scarf:

I'd rather see Kane, Chilwell and Maguire dumped out

"Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win." :)
