Perez today was better than Barnes and Maddison. Winning the ball back led to the goal. Don’t get me wrong if there was one position I wished we recruited for this summer it would be his, but Perez today was not the issue, it was Maddison.

Hate to unnecessarily pile on, but Perez didn’t actually “win the ball back”. Rather, the ball was dribbled out of bounds by Traore and frankly the best thing Perez did in that sequence was resisting the temptation to get in Ricardo’s way (and he very nearly did) as he crossed the ball. Perez is a good squad player, but frankly has not looked anyway near a player who should a regular starter on this team.

Just leaving the ground now, great to be back!

Thought that was an average performance; first half we were good though scored after they had their best spell of the game. Second half we didn’t really get going till changing to 3 at the back ti get more control. Vestergaard I thought looked good, made some great passes to start our attacks. Amartey failed his trial and will go back to being a backup CB. Shows us that CB purchase was the right call.

Tactically the switch to 532 was interesting because Maddison was sacrificed for Soumare. The new signing is clearly a good player but needs to get used to the speed of the league as he dwelt on the ball too often and the game largely passed him by.

That game probably should have been a draw though their chances came about from our mistakes, whereas I felt we genuinely opened them up to make ours.

There were some good performances; Ricardo, Tielemans, Vardy, Soyuncu. It’s also good to get our first win and get Vardy on the scoresheet. Wolves were much better than expected, especially second half though Adama Traore must frustrate them so much! He was by far their most dangerous player and yet at the end of the day they’ve not scored and go away with nothing.

Think we might see a few performances like this as we get our new recruits up to speed. We didn’t look great at the back but with Evans, Fofana and Bertrand out that doesn’t surprise me. Thomas was ok but he’s still raw and I think we are lucky Wolves swapped Traore’s flank to try to exploit the space in behind Ricardo. In the end Riccy P did great at both ends. In fact I think that was the key battle in the game which decided the contest.

Agree with this - except for your take on Thomas.

Thought he was more than just “ok” and was in fact one of our better players on the day.

blimey, after watching that second half i'd be suprised if we don't concede a record amount of goals this year. We'll lose every game at least 5-0.

Really hope i'm wrong, but setting my expectations low, hope i'll get a pleasant suprise.

Are you being serious?

I've been a Leicester fan all my life, so i look on the bleak side and i often get a pleasant surprise.

Seriously though, i'm always happy with staying up every year, everything else is a bonus!

Fair enough, but I'd rather do what Liverpool did earlier, when Norwich got a foothold and change a few players and push on rather that this heart in the mouth approach. We've certainly had a couple of escapes, one that stick in my mind was Burnley a couple of seasons ago when they scored late on and it was ruled out for a trip of Evans that was never a foul. We also go lucky in the fa cup final, with a tight offside saving us. Results are the most important thing I guess but it can't be sustainable tactic to keep letting your opponent gain the initiative and have more chance.

.. it started with Bringing Wes on against Watford when he first came, in his first match!!!

It is a weak attitude to the game and he just is not tactically adept to handle these situations.

A low level manager would resort to this ploy, he has played in Europe and managed for years and he resorts to bringing in a big man in order to combat pressure.

Let us take away the inniative from  the opposition instead of inviting them on and being under pressure.

Just back from a nice night  after the game

Read the first two pages…. Not sure I agree with a lot of it

Agrees Thomas and (obvs) Vardy were fantastic

One howler from Amartey otherwise ok

No big judgement on Vestergaard (although got done when he shouldn’t have)

The shakiest of the bunch was Soumare…. Had a bit of a horror show for a debut which surprised me

Cons

  • Ndidi had a number of uncharacteristic turnovers, hopefully it's just rust.
  • Barnes very rusty final decision.
  • Big Vest was a mess.  Too many mistakes to name, one nice line-breaking pass into the midfield was his only positive.  It was a very difficult situation for him, so hopefully it was a one-time thing.
  • 5 ATB is toothless.  Please stop it.
  • I hope Maddison's form after the first 15 was due to a knock.  I hope that knock is not an injury.

But if you have time - give it a go.

Vardy looked like the years are finally catching up with him at the end there

It's the first full EPL game and he ran his socks off terrorising their defence!

Overall I thought we were just a bit rusty and not quite match fit and in our full flow. To get the win is the most import thing and there's plenty of positives to take, not least Vardy leading from the front and being a nuisance until he started to tire. A point would have been fair, but then Wolves only have themselves to blame for missing their chances. On to the next one with a little bit longer to prepare :scarf:

For the goal, Ricardo and Vardy showed the skills but Perez's work made the chance: he worked for the throw in and dragged away defenders from Ricardo. Neither the most glamorous nor the most skillful work but it's what got us the goal. Wolves, in the first half, defended resolutely and marked Barnes out of the match. They understandably left more room on the right, and Perez and Ricardo opened up a resolute five at the back, a five at the back that we'll see in 70% of our matches. He's the Spanish Shinji Okazaki, Perez.

This exhibit is a football fan who got a free trial to The Athletic and was not only suddenly an expert on all aspects of the game but made completely bizarre comparisons just because they thought no one would study their opinion closely enough. Ask him a wider football question and he'll tell you what he thinks (once he's sent an email to the Athletic and they've emailed back to tell him what he thinks).

Pros

  • Vardy's movement was class, his finishing outside of the goal was off a bit.
  • Cags was brilliant and had a ton of work to do, due to Big Dan and Big Vest.
  • Ricardo is back!
  • Perez found a number of beautiful passes.
  • Youri's play as the 10 in the second half was amazing.  SO many wonderful final passes that should've ended with a better result.  I am ready for Tenlemans if Soumare is ready for the 8.

Cons

  • Ndidi had a number of uncharacteristic turnovers, hopefully it's just rust.
  • Barnes very rusty final decision.

I thought he was unbelievable today our defenders couldn't get near him

Sadly my highlights reel didn't show any of his good moments, but he certainly didn't capitalise on them.  If you get away from the defence a lot but go home with no goals is it really a good game?

The entire Wolves gameplan seemed to be 'pass to Traore and see if he can take on all the Leicester players and score'. Not too dissimilar to my work 11-aside summer friendlies where the player who thinks he's the best just endlessly takes on people rather than actually passing

Haha. I do post on this forum to post my options about football but I don't have a subscription.

It was disappointing not to see Vardy's disallowed on MOTD, looked good to me and no doubt it fired him up for his second.

Definitely offside. He even smiled at the lino.

JV's best game since before the operation earlier this year. I think he's back!

Great to get 3 points, no it wasn’t perfect but it was just about job done.

Thomas was brilliant(until the last 15/20 minutes) maybe prefers playing out and out left back.

can’t believe people are judging vestergaard already. He came on in a game 2 days after joining. Missed a couple of header but made one great block tackle and can see he can pass a ball.
