Again we are not playing on the front foot, losing nearly ever 50/50 challenge and getting outmuscled. We look knackered, short of sharpness and fitness and far too passive.

 

Several players (namely Barnes, Tielemans and Maddison) are way off the pace.

 

If he doesn't sort it out in the next 6 games or so then I'm afraid his job has to be in the balance, and I'm usually very patient.

 

What worries me is when we've seen scenarios like this before it doesn't tend to end well for the manager and I wonder if his days are numbered.

Lucky to get a point in the end. 2 strikers doesn't work usually in modern football and it didn't today, that's not to say we'd have won with a different formation. 

 

I'd have brought Maddison on at the same time as Soumare, we were being over run in midfield.

We were lucky to go 2-0 up, in the end we were lucky to come out with a 2-2 draw.

 

This just feels very stale and flat, it’s hard to see where a confidence booster is going to come from.

 

Their subs changed the game, Olise proved why we should have gone in for him, our substitutes ended up doing nothing.

 

Our defence continues to be shambolic and naive.

 

That pretty much sums us up atm.

Absolutely, positively 100% not surprised.

 

We go 2-0 up against the run of play by half time.  From there, as professional, Premier League players, we should be seeing the game out.  Brendan bangs on enough about controlling the game, well at 2-0, the opposition have to do ALL of the running, so make them run!  As soon as they scored one, I knew, as did a lot of others I'm sure, that we wouldn't score any more goals and we'd be lucky to come away with a point.

Castagne or Thomas surely have to be at left back over Bertrand, even if you don’t rate Thomas any higher he’s certainly not any worse and we’ll at least be giving game time to a player that will improve.

I think it’s the defense not the formation 

It definitely wasn’t the defence ! The midfield was non existent, your dreaming if you think Ndidi makes that much difference.

 

The way I see it is simple, either you play 2 wingers and 1 central striker, or 2 strikers in a system without wingers (3-5-2) etc. we were overrun all game

Vestergaard is awful. He’s the slowest footballer I think I’ve ever seen but then he wants 20 minutes on the ball when it’s just not on. He’s reasonably reliable under a high ball but that’s about it. Palace came out second half with a plan to play balls in behind him and expose his lack of pace and it worked. Both of their goals were jammy but they deserved it. 
 

We really are awful this season.

I would like to know what goes on at our £1 million training ground what ever it is it’s not making us any better.

Are the training staff good enough, a few back room staff seem to have left since Rodgers took over.

Is there unrest creeping in with the players .

Maybe be a Bit daring, give Tielemans some Bench time, introduce  KDH, for 3-4 games, Tielemans Bench...

Ordinarily I'd say if we win or come back to draw I don't care how ugly it looked the history books will show the points, but today? Apart from the goals not laying a glove on that back four who were there for the taking, not keeping the ball for any length of time, Bertrand offering Harvey no support leaving him outnumbered with no options, not enough nastiness or muscle like our meetings with West Ham just shoved off the ball so easily.

Could have been worse but expect more than two meaningful attacks with that talent out there, confidence pretty shot (check spelling there). Might have taken a draw before the game but it's more having witnessed how little we created that feels a backwards step today rather than a positive point.

Too often nobody wanted the ball, from throws and short free kicks in particular, Bertrand and Soyuncu resorting to hit and hope punts that may make the distance or may come straight back, I thought we'd moved on from that since the days of Holloway but equally the people in front of them need to show for it and really want it. A blunt reminder that four attacking players doesn't necessary result in lots of attacking, if anything fewer options to get out from the back.

As with this season in general "disjointed" sums it up.

At no point did we have a foothold in the game. I am really struggling to see what the game plan is right now as the team look like strangers and incapable of making 5 or 6 passes unless 4 of them are backwards. The defence is obviously hopeless without fofana and evans but that isn't the reason we now cannot play football. Still hope rodgers turns this around but can't remember the last time we were better than the opposition.

Half of our defence is injured. Soyuncu is having to play on the wrong side. New players are having to immediately dig deep for us. This has been a particularly rough start to the season.

 

What I will spin back on the manager is why has it taken this long to start Iheanacho in the League? He was explosive in the first half, got us 1up all in his own and kept linking play, creating space for others and wearing defenders out. Best goal contribution per minute player in Europe. On fire end on last season = bench.

Bertrand is terrible at all aspects of the game

We scored the first Goal, then they reviewed Bertrand's (horrendous) tackle in the move leading to the goal and sent him off. Southhampton couldnt believe thier luck offloading these 2.
