I don't think it can come down to one substitution but a collective mentality.  When teams come at us we retreat and we fold.

Having the chance to make 5 subs and only choosing to make 1 on a hot day like this is a factor

Obviously disappointing to throw away 2 points after being 2 0 up. Good first half but seemed like we were flagging in the second half, and not helped by Rodgers taking off our best player.

 

Thought Ward did OK, but he must be disappointed to have conceded 2.

I have to say - the 2nd goal - it appears Dan is at fault because he's late going out and def doesn't do a good job doing anything other than escorting him into a prime shooting position.  But the reason that goal happened is because we had no midfield.  Where da silva picked the ball up - IMO that's not a defender's man - it's too far out.  In other words, that's where KDH would have been.

You're probably right and we certainly lost our energy in the second half but this is not a one off.  It keeps happening, so there is a deeper problem here, just don't ask ne what the answer is.

Da Silva had the freedom to run from 25 yards out on their right to the edge of the box in the middle. No-one closed him down at all. Naïve defending that was always going to be punished.

Spot on. That’s a midfield job. 
 

Evans and Ward should have been screaming at the defenders to push out before that, but they sat back and invited the run in to the middle. Poor game management all round.

The positives are we defended well from set pieces and even scored from one ourselves.

We’ve made no signings. We’ve got one decent winger who’s injured and we’re forced to play 5 at the back because of it.

 

The game was crying out for some pace or width in the second half, but we had nobody who could do that role. Even our options to change formation are incredibly limited.

 

Add in Brendan’s poor game management. This may well prove to be the hottest (by temperature) match of the season - so we only make one sub? - bizarre. Not great at all.

 

But given the lack of signings; the lack of options and still having to pick Amartey (who shouldn’t be anywhere near a top half Premier League defence) BR is only part of the problem.

 

If anyone thinks a new manager could come in and magically transform us, operating within our current restrictions, then I think they’re being naive
