I’ve seen a few comments from fans who suspect that BR may rest Maddison.

Perhaps they hope he does. I don’t.

But it got me thinking would the bulk of us accept Maddison being rested today so he’s fresh for the WC. But, as a result draw 1-1.

Or would my fellow FT members rather we started Maddison, he scores twice then gets injured and misses the WC? With the caveat being that he’s fine again come Boxing Day.

Club before country for me always. Having said that, I will be sat nervously watching madders today. Hope he comes through it totally fine. He deserves this WC!

Absolutely not. We shouldn't be not playing Maddison due to the WC. Are we expected to rest Ward, Tielemans, Faes, Castagne and all of the others called up international duty too?

I can't imagine Pep resting KDB or Conte resting Kane.

BR will put out the strongest team possible, why send everyone off into a long break on a defeat, a win would boost morale, confidence and leave the club in a better place.

A quick glance at the table shows we are only two points away from the drop zone. Full strength is vital. All of our internationals (including Maddison) must be available to play.

Many were critical that Justin  was  played in a football match and therefore risked injury.

I do wonder how many players will be rested across the league.

Most of the England players, 17, come from the bloated squads of the entitled 6 and the Saudi money 7th.  But those clubs have other nationalities going to the WC too.

I suspect some clubs will make more use of their players who aren't going.

I think a few of our players will only play for 60 or 30 minutes.

I'm sure Madders will want to play and play well, do everything he can to get Southgate's attention. Another goal or assist or MOTM performance, anything to make Southgate more likely to actually play him.

Him playing would also be better for his fitness levels and momentum. So could do more harm than good for him giving him an extended rest.

He plays today, stuff England. Hope we win 5-0 today, and England go out at the group stage - and Madders doesn't play a minute so he's absolved of all blame  and is fit for us. Oh, and can we get Kane kidnapped by the Qataris so we don't have to see his stupid face ever again?

Mentioned this on the match thread. The counter argument is that it might be in the best interest of the club to play the likes of Praet as they wouldn’t have a moments hesitation going into a 50/50 than their only naturally might for someone going to the tournament. Having said that, I think they’ll all start. I do think there will be some odd results this weekend though.

Also, if any of our players fancy taking one for the team and taking out a West Ham player in retaliation they’ll only miss the MK Dons game for a second yellow.

It’s over a week till England’s first game  so no reason for any of the players in the squad to play .

How motivated some will be is a different matter .

Presume they are flying out on Monday so got a week to adjust and acclimate to Qatar .

We are in a relegation battle. We will not be resting any players who are fit, in form and critical to our success.

It's absurd anybody thinks otherwise. It's not even a discussion. Injuries are an occupational hazard for a footballer, even on the training ground. Are we suggesting the players cease training to avoid injuries? Or avoid driving to the ground in case if a car accident.

He plays, youri plays, castagne plays. They all play. They'll all want to play.

Maddison will play. I have just been wondering though how much intensity there will be in premier league games this weekend with many players having an eye on the wc.
