Club ‘cannot carry out’ operation to sign Leicester man – May need another big effort from him for transfer

Sevilla ‘cannot carry out’ an operation to sign Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumaré in the summer, despite a desire to do so.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who back up reports from Spain that Sevilla currently don’t have the money to activate a €15m clause in his loan deal.

The newspaper explains that Soumaré is one of the open fronts that Sevilla has for the summer market, when a rebuild of the squad is expected.

The midfielder is currently on loan from Leicester and has bene growing in the team, particularly under Quique Sanchez Flores and there is a willingness to sign him on a permanent basis.

They have an option to do so via a €15m purchase clause in his deal but at the moment it would be ‘impossible’ for the Spanish side to activate it.

That’s because Sevilla are currently in financial difficulties, which are only set to worsen next year as they won’t have the income from a European competition.

Thus, they can’t afford to activate that clause, nor can they activate other clauses they hold for Lucien Agoumé and Hannibal Mejbri.

Sevilla are not focusing on them for the moment and have to focus on lightening the squad, getting rid of large salaries to help loosen up the budget and bring it in line.

With that as the focus, signing Soumaré on a permanent basis would be ‘complicated’, at least in the current circumstances.

Everything can change in the coming months and if the Leicester man was to make an effort to make the transfer happen, it might be possible.

He gave up 40% of his wages in the summer to make the loan deal happen and the idea is that he’d have to do that again, or perhaps barter with the Foxes to get a permanent move to Seville.

Give him a 2nd season Loan to Sevilla,

Leicester aren’t alone struggling with FFP,

So across Europe some clubs & player (agents)

might consider extended loans,or even “ player-leasing”

Next 3-5 years, there might be many decent profi players

stuck in Limbo, and clubs not being able to commit..

Thought and process might have to come from the agents.

to wrangle deals so that FFP regulators,Euefa, and club

Can find happy ground,to take on that contracted player pool,

of players who are not finding their way into their clubs squad

or future are tied to long contracts…..but have found another club

that want them but can’t buy…

This pool of players today,I can imagine is quite big,& making holes

in holding club pockets…

Sick of these clubs taking the piss. If I hire something thats working well but cant afford to pay more the agreed fee to buy it outright at the end of the hire, I dont bitch and moan about it. Either you cough up or you dont.

Seems similar to how we messed Inter around with Sensi and Turkish clubs we have loaned players from. I know it feels like we are always the victim, but we've started to play the same game too.

Not quite the same.

The players we send back are garbage, Tete and Under and almost certainly Yunus. The players Torino etc send back have done well and they want to keep them but don't want to pay. Tyre kickers personified.

Ah European club trying to lower the agreed price ahead of possible transfer.

never heard that before.

Yes you know when you read they’re “unable to carry out an operation”  or “ working tirelessly to achieve an outcome” or “ exploring areas of common ground to bring the matter to a conclusion acceptable to all parties” that so far as our money is concerned we’re ****ed

We need to stop wasting our energy moaning about this sort of maneuvering by “cheap Italian (or French / Spanish / Turkish) clubs”.

With strict FFP and cost control enforcement, this is the new normal, and not only on the continent.

Putting an option in a loan deal It no longer establishes a  non-negotiable strike price (if it ever did).  It is how the loaning-in club puts a ceiling on the purchase price in case the player absolutely kills it.  Transfer budgets and fees are falling fast.

Deals done this summer will not reflect the pricing seen for similar players in recent years.  Often not even close.  I’d be surprised if we just write a check for €17M for Fatawu.  We’ll negotiate, as we will be forced to with Soumare and Kristianssen.

We have an obligation to buy with Fatawu, huge difference to the deal at the end being optional.

Agree though, it does seem like FFP may actually do some good and start to see the mad transfer fees and salaries that players recieve begin to drop as clubs have to start cutting their cloth accordingly.

Maybe we can get to a point where clubs can charge fair prices to attend matches as well.
