Vardy and England

These two friendlies are the perfect time to experiment with Vardy, a player who is doing everything to force his way in to starting XI for next summer. Hodgson knows how limited England are and therefore if he can utilise Vardy in the correct way then he's got a weapon that could finally give England a bit of excitement again. It's hard to even consider Welbeck and Sturridge right now as their injury problems have been relentless, we simply have to look at Vardy through the middle. Harry Kane is decent for England, he's proven he will do alright when called upon. Now let's allow Vardy that opportunity in the correct formation and see if he can do the same.

Hopefully it'll stop these goons saying "Vardy playing for England. The state of our national team", forgetting he's tearing a team apart, weekly.

Also, I bet The Sun are gutted they didn't save the casino incident until now.

Just listening to the Sunday Supplement podcast; one journo basically said that Cardy would have to play at this level all season (so 38 goals in the season) to keep his squad place, whereas Sturridge and Welbeck just have to be fit!?

Grrr... Not just about Vardy per say, but as an England fan journos (managers) have their untouchables regardless of form; leaving better, inform players languishing...

Yes he has to be given a chance in the number 9 role centrally, hopefully against better opposition (France & Spain) who will be higher up the field, he can use that pace & play on the shoulder of the defenders.

In the last International he played in they sat so deep even if he had  been given the ball, there was very little space in behind. The first hour against Villa this season it was the same story they sat deep trying not to let him and Okizaki in behind. I think playing with a good creative number 10 behind him helps because it often draws the defenders and Vardy can get in behind if the delivery is clever. This happens when Mahrez drifts in that space, unfortunately Rooney has shown no signs of being anywhere near as good as Riyad.

Any ideas on an better English no.10 at the moment? Barkley?

If he lives up to his early promise, definitely Barkley.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, a front 4 of Sterling/Vardy/Walcott interchanging with someone like Barkley in behind would be frightening. Add in Sturridge as well when fit.

I have a horrible feeling that come the internationals Vardy will get his chance down the middle, but France and Spain won't bother attacking anyway, and it'll just end like all the qualifiers did, with Vardy timidly playing on the left wing.

Eiter that, or we'll play well but the midfield will continue to ignore Vardy and either go it alone or pick worse options, time and time again.

I can't be arsed to go through 67 pages to see if this has been said, but MOTD on Saturday sums up the England situation and attitude for me. Jenas bottled it when asked if Vardy should be playing down the middle instead of Rooney. OF COURSE HE SHOULD YOU FACKING LITTLE TURNIP HEAD. Just say it. Just like Jenas bottled it, so do others. Ian Wright is the only one with big enough balls to speak out. Everyone else sucks up to Rooney.

Woy will keep playing him out of position, he'll remain unfashionable and 'lucky' that he's there according to non-Leicester England fans.

I couldn't care less for England, but I'd like the England fans to see Vardy start down the middle and I'm still proud a Leicester player is pulling on an international shirt.

I just wish Vardy had an Irish grandma!!!!!!! :-) ;-)

I seem to remember Jenas saying Vardy should be playing down the middle for England with Rooney behind....

What a totally tasteless thing to say.

Dont write Rooney off just yet everyone.

Do you honestly in your heart of hearts see any way Rooney will make the difference for England in France?

I'll happily eat my words if he does but even he must be a bit embarrassed at being above Vardy in the pecking order at the minute given the form of the two players. Sends the total wrong message to them both.

Can't find the appropriate thread to post this so this might be a bit off topic, apologies in advance!

Where are these rumours of Vardy on his way out in January coming from? Will it happen? Who then fills his void?

His contracted until 2018 if i remember correctly, so a Club would have to pay through their nose to secure his services, correct?

Surely this has been simply summed up on other pages......

Roy made Rooney captain... Therefore hamstringing himself.

If he drops him to the bench he's effectively dropping his captain and needs to pick another one, which is quite the statement before a major tournament!

He'll be there until after France. Simples

Inb4 Rooney does his ACL.

Problem solved!

Dortmund now linked, in Bild - 'BVB heiß auf Ballermann Vardy'

The only disappointment there is that Ballermann actually means shooter and not baller man. Vardy the baller man would be a fair assessment of his ability imo.

As a squad England need to watch the Leicester Arsenal game from this season.

Then after 60 minutes put Walcott, Vardy and Sterling on and say play like that. Fast attacking football with the ball played in front of the attackers, get them in behind the defence, allow them to run at the goal at pace in numbers.

Also show  Vardy's goal from Saturday, the only defence to that type of goal is ridiculously fast centre backs,  but as a team they should be looking to hit that type of move, it doesn't have to be Vardy, it could be Walcott or Sterling, but it was such a simple build up and impossible to defend against.

Pretty much every pundit I've heard mention Vardy over the last two weeks have said Vardy needs to play down the middle for England

Middle, left or right  isn't the issue, he has to be allowed to play his natural game which is hanging on the shoulder of the last defender, looking to run into the space behind. He can do that anywhere, but he should not be instructed to play out wide, hug the touch line, create width, protect the full back etc. His team mates also need to know where to play the ball to him. He doesn't want to be squared up with the full back and have to try and take him round the outside and get a cross in, he needs to be running at/in behind slow centre backs.

He's one of only 3 strikers in the squad, so surely will get a start up front in one of the games?

Also gutted for Albrighton, that England side have zero width with 7 centre midfielders! One of which is Delph who hasn't started for City yet has he?

Also Gibbs is involved despite his only starts in 2 months being the loss at home to Olympiakos and the 3-0 hammering by Sheff Wednesday!

absolute banker on vardy to play left wing then...

England @england 3m3 minutes ago Brent, London

Roy: If players are in form and scoring goals like Jamie Vardy it's great for us. He can play in any of the three front positions
