England V Russia Match Thread

Two world class teams up next... every team England play and do well against the same rubbish comes out that they are just terrible...

I'm not saying Wales or Slovakia are world class. But u cant deny, Wales are going to be playing their hearts out & Slovakia have the technical ability in their side to do some damage.

England can beat both, but if we can't beat a shocking Russia its hard to be optimistic.

They didnt see the game out off the back of a lumped ball into the box, and a header that was guided somewhere towards the goal that looped miles in the air and somehow into the corner.

You couldnt lay blame at anyone for the goal, you couldnt blame Roy for it either.

It was a total shithouse job by Russia, theyve spent almost 90 mins being battered to **** and stole a point.

Being 1-0 up against a side as poor as Russia was poor anyway and always left us susceptible to that sucker punch - the refusal to put Vardy on was mental given the circumstances.

Reminded me of us under Pearson last season - we left ourselves open to getting sucker punched because we didn't attack enough when we got in promising positions - you make your own luck.

England could not score from open play against a dire Russian side and proved yet again that we cant defend, what Milner brought to the game is beyond me because he certainly was not solid.

It's funny you know, because someone at work (He's not a football fan and he's wumming) always picks me up on when I say 'we' when speaking about Leicester, he says 'Oh so you play for them do you, you scored did you?' regardless I still say 'we'.

When it comes to England, I very rarely say 'we', i'm English, obviously, but I just don't have the same passion and association with England, certainly not with that muppet in charge.

Was one of the biggest false results youll ever see.

Woy set the team up well, great balance, Rooney was great in the deeper role, Sterling quiet granted but Dier was terrific in the middle and Rooney was dictating play.

We created buckets of chances.

We were undone by one, speculative looping header that goes 10 foot over the bar 99 times out of a hundred, and was the only effort on goalthey had other than speculative efforts from 30 yards.

The result was highly unjust.

No it wasn't. We contributed massively to the conceding of their goal with our tactical naivity. We also failed to take several good chances and wasted the final ball when others chances were pending.

We also wasted several set plays, Sterling played like a schoolkid at times and Kane was far more subdued and inaccurate than we need him to be.

Football is about winning and we couldn't have had much easier opposition for doing that. But winning requires a relentlessly ruthless mentality which doesn't contemplate conceding anything you don't need to and that mindset was clearly lacking.

We are England, the country most of us were born in.

Club over country for me I'm afraid. And the FA disrespect us. Which makes me very sad - because I just can't bring myself to love the England football team.

thought i wouldnt give a shit but it still hurt a little bit.

thats the worst ive seen kane play. donkey levels.

the tournament's 2 days in and already england find themselves in a must win position lol

hoddle has to be trolling us. he just has to be.

what was that noise, bad feeling in my gut when that happened.

Played ever so well and yet come off it not winning. I shouldn't be pissed off but I am.

Horrific substitutions from Roy and what seemed like a genuine reluctance to freshen things up. Kane was permanently offside tonight and was seriously plodding from the 60th onwards, why Vardy wasn't given ANY time on the pitch is genuinely baffling. Milner serves no purpose at all and after the tourney Hart should consider his spot under threat if Forster and Butland keep up their level of performance.

Also, for all the stick Jeff gets on here for being a little dim, watch Raheem Sterling. Probably the thickest player I've ever seen, absolutely no conviction with anything.

Such a positive first half spoilt by stalled and bizarre changes. A Russia minus four key players and a creaky defence is the easiest game we've got on paper.

I dont accept the result, the result was RIDICULOUS given the way the game went.

But people coming on here saying england were poor? fvck off

We had a reasonable amount of possession, but that was it really. We barely had a shot from open play. Our front three were appalling. Defence had nothing to do until the end when they failed. Alli wasn't great. Dier and Rooney were OK. It's the easiest game we'll play all tournament and we haven't won, so I think poor is a fine description personally.

So we bloody should be the better side. Should also look to score more than one goal in case our defence switches off like they do. Can't believe people accept that sort of result. Just shows how far we've fallen

No ones accepting that sort of result though are they. We're accepting the fact we bossed the game and were unlucky not to win it.

Give up mate. You haven't got a clue about football, your post over the last few years have proven that.

We couldn't score an open play goal against Russia and then let them come back us with negative tactics. We were like Joey Tribbiani with errectile disfunction. All the great build up work but no end product.

To be fair mate I think. Hodgson is 100% to blame. We were in total control at 1-0 but he shafted us by bringing on Milner and robbing the players of any offensive outlet. One thing England teams have never done well is soak up pressure and defend so why remove all counter attacking options? Basically we went one nil up and Hodgson went super conservative which ****ed us up.
