Raw Dykes Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 Just now, FireFox said: Pretty sure Champions League winners get a spot. Good point! Seems bizarre that that is possible. It's not going to happen, but I'm sure I said that about the PL title last season. This has got to be the best club in the world to support, surely?
Blue ROI Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 Missed this as sky sports 5 were showing Watford and Southampton. Not a bad game that! Sounded a bit more tense than Liverpool on Monday but 2 vital wins and a little less worrying on the relegation battle if not out of the woods fully. Not much I can say now on the performance but shakey has been on the ball so far. Looking like he'll get to the end of the season at least.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 Can Shakespeare lead us to our first away league win against West Ham, I hope so and playing like this no reason why we can't win there
Livid Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 That was better again and a good result. I'm not going overboard and claiming we're back to our best though. I know there's a confidence issue, but we still look edgy at times and I never felt like we were totally in control. Ndidi gave them their first by losing the ball, Drinkwater had to take a yellow for the team because instead of going clean through for reasons only known to himself Albrighton decided to cut back inside and lost the ball. As a team we look much better but as individuals they still look a littlle off the pace.
NeilLCFC Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 only one player in the starting line up was signed by Ranieri?
Woof Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 Confidence and momentum are so important in football and at last you can see this swinging in our favour. Plus, at last, a bit of Mahrez magic!
dynamark Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 Did sit a bit but.Riyads goal was worth the entry fee.Im not sure there is another player world wide who could do that . Not perfect but not giving the ball away and getting it back pretty quick and effective. Going down to a soft goal showed some guts.

AjcW Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 Christ. How nice is it to see us passing the ball! Last two performances have reminded me of some of the great passing play we did against Liverpool at home last season! The Simpson, Mahrez, DD triangles have returned down the right wing! Similarly with Fuchs, Albrighton and Vardy on the left
Dan Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 We're definitely back. The sacking's been absolutely justified hasn't it really. We're showing everything that was missing. We're exciting to watch again, we're positive, and we get the results. I think we'll come about 10th. Seriously. Not even up for debate for me if Shakespeare should get it for the season. I'm watching us now thinking that he probably played a far bigger part last year than people realise.

Mid table mediocrity, what's that?

Only a miracle can save them if they play like that every week. Good to see we still have the ability to dispatch teams like that without breaking sweat. I think we've played against worse sides than Hull this season and lost.
pazzerfox Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 The last two games has justified the owners decision. We have our heartbeat back, we have our Leicester back. Even if we go down playing like this, I will still be happy!

With Shakespeare in charge; 2 games, 6 goals, 6 points - Impact. Can't deny there's a few underlying things which need ironing out though - sitting deep in the second half, in which we invited pressure from Hull, and the tempo of our play at times needs looking at. Not complaining because this is a great victory but there's still a few things we need to address going forward. You're right. Winning sport is all about maintaining impetus and improvement. The great disappointment this season has been our inability to put the title win behind us and concentrate once again on exactly that. Hopefully Shakespeare won't make that mistake. I don't pretend to know because I listened on the radio, but the sitting back might have been both deliberate and temporary. A means of taking a bit of a breather and/or of luring Hull increasing further forward so we could hit them on the counter. I say that because we appeared to have two or three lulls at various times.

In context 2 very good wins - we dismissed Liverpool like a league 2 side and they have just carved up Arsenal - Hull have been very resilient against some good sides and have been very hard to beat but we put 3 on them. We are unrecognisable from the limp dicks who surrendered at Southampton Burnley and Swansea and I am encouraged to think we can take this form into away matches too especially against the mid to lower table teams . Hard to remember how lacking in hope we were a week or so ago and accepting relegation as inevitable

Yeah, valid points made. I just fear the sitting deep because I'm not overly assured about us defensively to defend countless attacks. I'm not saying I doubt the ability of our back four, it's just a risky game to play for me because you run the risk of letting the opposition back into the game, which Hull could've done today. But as you said, it might be tactical, and as I said, it's not a potent criticism because we won today, but it's just something I've noticed.

It's concerned a lot of people but sometimes we've come unstuck being over adventurous and getting caught with a sucker punch. At least these last two games we've seemed reasonably well organised and disciplined so that, whatever we're doing, we don't seem to be open as an all-night supermarket whenever the opposition cross the halfway line. At least it looks like we've got a team worth working on again!

I think a lot of the 'sitting back' second half was caused by tired legs. Apart from the first five minutes of the second half, Hull didn't threaten to create anything of note until after Mahrez' goal. Even then, we seemed content to let them get difficult crosses in, which Morgan and Huth were dealing with comfortably. This was no different last season. To Hull's credit, they were committing men forward and keeping a wide shape and did an OK job of keeping the ball moving, but they lacked any cutting edge. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Hull were not that bad really.

To be honest, it might well be a natural thing the team do, unconsciously you want to keep the lead and with that comes a defensive shape. Might be a bit of that and tactics.
